Chapter 76: Chapter 76: The Ultimate Knowledge Showdown

Zhonghai Broadcasting and Television Building, Studio No. 21.

At this moment, the studio was already filled with more than three hundred audience members; cameras were everywhere, and crew members were busily filming the show. On the stage at the very front, there were two small podiums placed on either side, behind which stood a young man and a woman.

Both of them looked quite young, definitely not over twenty-five. At this moment, the man was the picture of relaxed confidence, as if victory was already in his grasp. The woman, however, was visibly nervous, continuously taking deep breaths.

On the large screen behind them were five big characters—The Clash of Knowledge!

Yes, this was the set of the popular intellectual game show, The Clash of Knowledge!

The host, standing between them, was currently explaining the next segment to the audience—

“Ladies and gentlemen,” the host said with a smile, holding a microphone, “up next is the most critical part of our competition today—The Battle of External Help!”

“On my left, we have our five-time champion, Chen Ming! Chen Ming is a student at Zhonghai Normal University with a vast reserve of knowledge. Out of a hundred questions today, he has answered an impressive ninety-five correctly! Now, how many questions will his external help be able to answer in this final round?”@@novelbin@@

The host paused and took a deep breath, “Let’s wait and see!”

The entire audience fell silent, their hearts in their throats.

After around five seconds of silence, the host walked over to Chen Ming and asked with a smile, “Chen Ming, you only have one minute for this final round, with ten questions in total. How many do you think your external help can answer correctly?”

Chen Ming, oozing confidence, glanced at the girl standing opposite him and said with a smile, “I think about five should do it.”

As soon as he finished speaking, a buzz spread through the audience!

“Five questions, eh? If he really gets all five right, that would mean he’s answered a total of a hundred correctly. That’s going to be hard to beat!”

“That’s right. Wang Qian is currently four questions behind him. If his external help answers five correctly, then Wang Qian would need to answer all of them to win! That’s practically an impossible task!”

“This is really going to be tough!”

No wonder the audience was abuzz with discussion.

At this point, Chen Ming had 95 points, and Wang Qian had 91.

If Chen Ming’s external help answered five correctly, that would bring his total to one hundred. And Wang Qian’s external help would need to answer all ten questions correctly to win. Answering ten questions in one minute… that seemed impossible!

“Great!” the host cheered loudly for Chen Ming and then surveyed the audience, “Now, let’s see who Chen Ming picks for his external help! Who could it possibly be?”

The entire studio fell silent in anticipation as Chen Ming took out his phone, furrowed his brows in thought for quite a while, and finally made his choice, dialing a number with grave seriousness!

“Du Du Du—”

The sound of the call getting through rang out, and it was quickly picked up, a calm, middle-aged voice responding, “Little Ming, what’s up?”

The host gestured for silence, and the audience fell dead quiet.

“Mr. Han,” said Chen Ming very politely, “I’m currently on the set of The Clash of Knowledge, and we’ve reached the final round where we ask for external help. Mr. Han, are you available right now?”

“Oh, that program, sure,” replied Mr. Han quickly, “just let me mentally prepare…” and after about five seconds, he said, “Alright, let’s start.”

“External help confirmed,” the host raised his right hand high in the air, then swiftly brought it down, “and now… begin!”

The screen instantly started a sixty-second countdown, and Chen Ming began firing off questions rapidly—

Chen Ming: “What type of printer is fast and has a high resolution?”

Mr. Han: “Laser.”

Chen Ming: “What is the main driving force behind the world’s weather?”

Mr. Han: “The sun.”

Chen Ming: “What principle is commonly used in horticulture for pruning and trimming fruit trees?”

Mr. Han: “…skip.”

Chen Ming: “How long is 1 light-year, approximately?”

Mr. Han: “9.46 trillion kilometers.”

Chen Ming: “What shape does a pig’s tail take when it is content?”

Mr. Han: “…skip.”

The ten questions were asked in quick succession, and everyone in the audience expressed their high respect for Mr. Han’s rapid answers. Then, the host proclaimed loudly, “Mr. Han’s knowledge is truly extensive! If it were me faced with these questions, I probably wouldn’t know a single one! Now, let’s check how many of Mr. Han’s answers were correct!”

The big screen began to display the answers to the ten questions: the first one correct, the second one correct, the third one wrong, the fourth one correct, the fifth one wrong, the sixth one wrong, the seventh one correct, the eighth and ninth ones wrong, and the tenth one correct!

Ten questions in total, and the correct answers added up to… exactly five!

“Thank you, thank you, everyone!” With the outcome pretty much decided, Chen Ming raised his hands high, waving in gratitude to the audience, “Thanks for your support, I’m the best!”

At this point, Chen Ming had correctly answered precisely one hundred questions. His opponent, Wang Qian, would need her external help to answer all ten questions correctly to surpass him and win!

But with ten questions, even if Wang Qian were to summon a deity to her aid, how could they possibly all be answered?

“Wang Qian,” the host approached Wang Qian with the microphone and asked with a smile, “Nervous?”

Wang Qian, with her hair tied into a neat ponytail and looking very fresh and lovely, nodded vehemently, “Nervous, incredibly so!”

“As you should be. If it were me, I probably wouldn’t even be able to stand up straight.” The host joked with a smile, “But you better think carefully. This is your last chance to challenge. If you give up now, you’ll be the runner-up of this competition and win a prize of five thousand yuan. However, if you choose to keep challenging and win, you could take home a grand prize of ten thousand yuan. But if you fail, you’ll end up with nothing. Now, I want to ask you, Wang Qian, are you sure… you want to continue to challenge?”

At that moment, the eyes of everyone in the audience were focused on Wang Qian.

If she forfeited, she could walk away with the five thousand yuan prize money now. But if she continued and failed, she would end up with nothing.

To challenge or to give up?

Wang Qian took a deep breath, her gaze sweeping across the entire audience, then she looked at Chen Ming standing opposite her, with his smug expression…

“I choose…” Wang Qian clenched her teeth, “to continue challenging!”
