Dominate the Super Bowl

Chapter 365 364 Matters must be set right

Perhaps, one could find a hundred reasons not to like the New England Patriots, but since the turn of the twenty-first century, they have been the most consistent and outstanding team in the League—

without compare.

The partnership of Belichick and Brady was the most threatening in the League, creating countless histories, even though people outside the New England region fundamentally disliked them.

Since the new century, the New England Patriots had deeply imprinted with the mark of Bill Belichick.

Belichick's desire for victory had reached an obsessive degree, with no warmth or friendship within the team. Everything was measured by victory, which led him to unparalleled success; however, at the same time, he became known as the most cold-hearted coach in the League.

Apart from Brady, Belichick had no warm feelings for any other player or fan.

Over the years, countless players had come and gone without leaving much trace in Foxborough, leading to remarks that only Brady and Belichick were the unshakable cornerstones, and any other player on the Patriots team could be traded—

until later, people realized they had been too naive and young.

When faced with real interest, no one was untradable, including Brady.

In March 2020, Brady left the New England Patriots to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Of course, this is competitive sports, this is the Professional League, this is business operations.

Victory and interests are the constants.

However, such cold operational methods turned all players into mere numbers, making this team very unfriendly to fans.

Moreover, Belichick's dominance and forcefulness, his cunning and treachery, even his disregard for sportsmanship at any cost, undoubtedly made the Patriots a League villain.

Yet, Belichick remained that same Belichick, never altering his ways due to fans' "like or dislike," otherwise his philosophy of success no longer existed.

...until Belichick himself became a casualty of "victory and interests."

In January 2024, the New England Patriots and Belichick released a joint statement, ending their cooperation of a full twenty-five years, parting ways.

Less than twenty-four hours after the joint statement was released, the New England Patriots announced a new head coach, officially ushering in a new era for the team.

Though out of sight, out of mind, the act of changing coaches within twenty-four hours was still chilling.

From various indications, the breakup wasn't as amicable as stated in the joint declaration.

But, that's a story for another time.

Let's return to the present moment, in the 2017 season, as the defending champions, the New England Patriots had a regular-season record of thirteen wins and three losses, still the most formidable contenders for the Super Bowl, with Belichick and Brady's partnership quietly continuing to break records.

When the Kansas City Chiefs again arrived in Foxborough, the Patriots' fans were expecting more than just a victory—@@novelbin@@

To crush. To sweep. To demolish.

They hadn't forgotten the opening game's unexpected defeat, which the fans thought was just a minor incident, viewing the Chiefs as not a serious threat; yet, it turned out that Li Wei, standing on the shoulders of Brady and the Patriots, made a famous name for himself, reducing them to mere footnotes.

And he advanced triumphantly.

Then.

In the divisional game, the Chiefs once again stood before the Patriots, ready to challenge the champions.

And!

Ironic as it was, "Chieftain" is a title used by Native Americans; precisely what the New England region has strived utterly to dissociate from.

"Chieftain VS Patriots," thus, this matchup took on even more significance.

A mere ant, an episode, an insignificant Chieftain, who after an unexpected opening defeat, dared to challenge the pride of the champions again?

So, is this like "heaven offered a path you didn't take, hell had no gate yet you came on your own"—

Perfect!

In the eyes of the fans, this wasn't just a matter of revenge but also an opportunity to cleanse shame and rectify a mistake.

Kansas City Chiefs defeated New England Patriots? A rookie running back became a superhero? An Asian face replacing Brady as the new face of the League?

No, no, no, all of these are wrong. The New England Patriots must rewrite history and correct every single mistake, returning to the right track.

In the regular season opener, that was just a show, an accident, a minor incident, something a king-like New England Patriots wouldn't take to heart; but the playoffs are different, how dare the Kansas City Chiefs try to rise above their station and covet victory? This time, the New England Patriots definitely won't take it lightly.

Things must be set right!

"Go back to where you came from!"

"Oh, what a pity, no plane crash, or you could have escaped a debacle of humiliation, haha."

"Coward, be careful not to wet your pants!"

As the car door opened, what greeted the Kansas City Chiefs was a barrage of curses, each uglier and dirtier than the next. Even the seasoned Houston couldn't help but slightly change his color.

Instinctively, Houston looked toward the offensive group's bus ahead, his eyes showing a bit of worry. Even though Li Wei had always been calm and composed, at the end of the day, he was just a young man in his early twenties, and a rookie at that. He'd never been through such an ordeal in the League, and facing such insults, he might find it hard to keep his composure.

Noticing from across the aisle, Revis glanced at Houston. He actually didn't want to get involved, but still couldn't help saying a word.

"If you're worried about the rookie, there's no need."

"All the people outside combined can't even harm a single hair on him."

Houston looked at Revis, the renowned Island King who kept his distance from everyone in the team, yet he didn't expect him to actually stand up for Li Wei.

So, is this a good thing?

Houston thought for a moment. "Actually, I'm worried about them getting hurt by the rookie."

Revis: ...

Meanwhile, a bus up ahead slowly came to a stop.

Li Wei was packing his luggage ready to get off, only to see Mahomes and Kelsey crammed in the aisle, looking at him with faces full of worry.

Li Wei, "Huh?"

Mahomes scratched his head, "You don't need to worry about those sounds outside."

Turning his head, Li Wei glanced, "This is a good thing. Last time we came to Foxborough, they didn't even consider us worth cursing; but now they've started."

"The louder and fiercer, the more afraid they are."

"It's a breakdown."

Pfft.

Smith couldn't help but burst out laughing, and the others couldn't hold back either, one by one they started laughing, the previously tense atmosphere quietly dissipated.

Li Wei stood up with a tranquil expression on his face.

"They are so scared, we don't need to look fierce and bully the weak, it's bad to damage the flowers and plants."

Saying this, Li Wei squeezed past Kelsey and walked off the bus with a light step.

Boom, boom, boom!

A barrage of curses and attacks surged toward him.

However, Li Wei didn't have a special response, just lightly waved his hand under his nose, his brows slightly furrowed, seemingly dissatisfied with this rotten smell:

So stinky.

So, is it bad breath or body odor? Wait, could it be fox odor?

With just one action and one expression, it was already enough.
