Chapter 696: 695 Text Message Issue

Monday morning.

It was an official rest day, with no training scheduled, allowing the players to relax; however, since the regular season was still underway, rest wasn’t entirely restful, and the players still needed to maintain their daily routines.

At least Li Wei did.

In the morning, he still woke up in accordance with his biological clock and started the brand-new day with a jog. Having persisted in this day after day, it had long since become a habit, and without a run, the rest of the day just felt off.

The difference was, on rest days there weren’t intensive training sessions. Instead, he opted for yoga to relax his muscles and alleviate mental stress; then he’d complement that with some tactical study outside of his usual tasks—

For example, the defensive group tactical handbook.

...

Li Wei read it as a form of relaxation, not just the Kansas City Chiefs’ own defensive group tactical handbook; he also perused defensive tactics handbooks from other teams from a few seasons back.

For confidentiality reasons, the publicly available tactical handbooks were several years old and had long been phased out; but from these handbooks, one could observe the evolution of defensive strategies and catch onto the League’s tactical trends.

Equally interesting.

However, Li Wei had other plans this morning.

He was going to the hospital.

Last night, Li Wei had promised Felix to visit his good friend in the hospital, and of course, the other kids in the chemotherapy room too.

It was a small matter, and Li Wei agreed to it without hesitation.

So now, Li Wei planned to return home to freshen up, eat breakfast, and then head to the hospital.

Creak.

As he pushed open his front door, he could see at a glance someone lying on the deep gray sofa in the hall, curled up into a ball.

A thief?

In Kansas City, there probably wasn’t anyone who didn’t know whose residence this was. To break in to steal would be very risky; if they encountered the homeowner, who knew how it would end? Logically, thieves wouldn’t just walk into a trap.

Upon closer inspection—

“Sherlock?”

Li Wei couldn’t control his surprise and exclaimed aloud.

Whoosh.

With a start, Mahomes sat up straight on the sofa.

“Sorry, I messed up.”

Li Wei: ???

What was this all about?

Li Wei, “Sherlock, did Brittany kick you out of the house?”

Mahomes looked bewildered, staring at Li Wei blankly, “How did you know?”

Li Wei shrugged, “I know now. I was just guessing wildly before.”

Mahomes knew where Li Wei kept his spare key and usually came and went freely. Today was no exception, though the current situation was somewhat different.

At this moment, Li Wei noticed other details—

Mahomes had a sports bag with him, which didn’t seem like his regular training gear but more like luggage hastily packed for a getaway.

And his attire, well… left much to be desired: a wrinkled T-shirt matched with an ugly brown plaid pair of pants—it was strongly suspected to be pajamas, but even if they were, they were too hideous to behold.

“…Sherlock, you really do look a mess,” Li Wei commented candidly.

Mahomes lifted the collar of his T-shirt and sniffed, “Is it really that bad? All my change of clothes are at the team’s place; I’ve got nothing left at home.”

In a professional team, the system is complete.

Considering that in the NFL, the majority of players either can’t hire housekeepers, aren’t married yet, or don’t have a spouse who is a full-time homemaker, the team provides comprehensive care for the players.

Like laundry.

The players just need to bring their dirty clothes to the team, hang them with their tags, and the team’s laundry room will take care of them; not only do they wash and dry-clean, but they also mend and iron, etc., providing thorough care.

Not just Mahomes, Li Wei’s dirty clothes were also all taken care of by the team.

Li Wei shook his head slightly, “It’s not the clothes.”

It was the expression, and the whole aura of the man.

“I thought yesterday was your anniversary, and you even celebrated early with a victory, so you and Brittany should have had a sweet night together,”

No sooner had Li Wei finished speaking than Mahomes slumped his shoulders and heaved a heavy sigh.

Alas.

“Rookie, I’m done for.”

Li Wei blinked, “Brittany caught you cheating?”

Mahomes jumped three feet high, bouncing up and staring at Li Wei with wide eyes, incredulous, “How did you know?”

Li Wei: Uh…

“I know now,” Li Wei spread his hands, a lucky guess, indeed.

But… Mahomes?

Li Wei looked doubtful, “I thought you knew better than to dabble with that flesh and skin.”

Mahomes widened his eyes and waved his hands frantically, “No no no, not me, I didn’t. Really!”

Li Wei laughed outright, “Sherlock, I believe you, and I couldn’t be clearer on that; but the point is, it’s no use me believing you, Brittany has to believe it. So, what happened?”

Li Wei couldn’t figure it out—

Mahomes was a good boy, the whole team didn’t want to corrupt him; at the same time, he was competitive and genuinely hoped to make a name for himself on the football field.

From morning till night, seven days a week, Mahomes spent his time with Li Wei, training together, studying the playbook together, analyzing game footage together, even dreaming about football tactics at night.

To talk about “cheating,” he didn’t even have time to scroll through images or watch short videos on social media.

Frankly, Li Wei was even more surprised than Brittany now.

Mahomes could see the gleeful schadenfreude in Li Wei’s eyes.

Mahomes was at a loss whether to cry or laugh, “Bro, my life is on the line here, okay?”

Li Wei shrugged lightly, “Would Brittany believe my testimony? I’d vouch for you, but in the end, it’s up to Brittany, right?”

“So, she must have caught something, and that got you kicked out, right?”

Mahomes took a deep breath, but his words stuck in his throat.

Li Wei tilted his head, “Wait, you’re not denying it. So, there’s definitely something?”

Now things were getting interesting.

Mahomes didn’t beat around the bush anymore, “Remember David’s garden?”

Of course, how could anyone forget—

David Beckham’s secret garden.

And Beyoncé, the Roaring Lion of the East, along with the bizarre Rabbit Hole.

Li Wei didn’t ask question for question but jumped ahead with his thoughts, “Wait, are you talking about the Super Bowl victory celebration night? You’ve been cheating on Brittany since then?”

Who could have guessed!

Mahomes had even managed to keep it from Li Wei for over half a year.

Startled, Mahomes waved his hands, “No no no, it’s not like that.”

“It started that night, I’m not sure who I gave my number to, but I’m certain I exchanged numbers with some models that night.”

“But that was it.”

“None of them cared about me, hey, they were mostly asking for your number through me, didn’t I tell you about this?”

Li Wei tipped his chin slightly, “So, you started texting back and forth with them since then?”

Li Wei wasn’t easily led by the nose by Mahomes’ words, shifting the focus, instead he caught onto the underlying point at once.

Mahomes choked, “… Occasionally, just a few texts, I didn’t dare to give away your number just like that, and that was all.”

“Until last month.”

“Suddenly, someone sent me this photo.”

Mahomes took out his phone, searched for a moment, and then handed it directly to Li Wei.
