Chapter 700: 699 Seven Dwarves

Chapter 700: 699 Seven Dwarves

“…What do you say?”

The little girl looked at Li Wei with youthful, bright yet melancholic eyes, exuding a mischievous spirit beyond her years.

Li Wei was a bit nervous, “Indeed, we must listen to the voice of our bodies.”

“So… keep it up!”

Having said that, after a pause, Li Wei added, looking squarely at the little girl, “Sorry, seems like I don’t know what else to say besides that. But still, keep it up!”

Then, Li Wei clenched his fist tightly and swung it vigorously.

...

Down the steps, Mahomes caught Li Wei’s eye and clenched his fist as well, “Keep it up!”

The little girl glanced at Li Wei, then at Mahomes, and finally turned her gaze toward Kelsey.

Kelsey: …

Blinking slowly, a whole beat behind, Kelsey finally caught on and hurriedly clenched his fist too. He began to speak in a flustered manner but involuntarily lowered his voice, dragging out a long tone, “Keep it up…”

Why does this feel so odd?

The little girl let out a gentle sigh.

“Sigh.”

Was that a sigh just now?

“Growing up doesn’t mean having the answers to all problems, right?”

Li Wei: …Why did he feel like he was being scorned?

But he couldn’t refute it.

Li Wei shrugged lightly, “Indeed. So, each of us has our own challenges to face and solve.”

The little girl, “Yeah. I guess I really need to rely on myself.”

And then… there was no then…

Seeing that little miss with a “don’t disturb my contemplation” expression, Li Wei and the others tactfully turned and left.

Creak.

Pushing open the stairwell door, the three men stood in the hospital corridor, looking at each other, forced to admit, this short encounter had been filled with wondrous thoughts.

Smiles crawled up to their lips.

“Excuse me, which way is the chemotherapy room?”

Li Wei took the initiative to step forward and inquired at the nurse’s station.

“Straight down to the end on your left hand…” the nurse replied as a matter of course, then suddenly covered her mouth and widened her eyes, her face full of disbelief, as if she might explode at any moment.

At a glance, it was obvious, the three hulking men had betrayed themselves, probably blowing their cover.

Li Wei’s eyes twinkled with mirth, and he nonchalantly betrayed his two teammates, “Yep, this is Kelsey, this is Mahomes. I’ve told them they’re not cut out for being James Bond, too conspicuous, too easy to blow their cover.”

The two well-behaved giants widened their eyes, befuddled as they were sold out.

The nurse, looking to be about forty, with a plump pear-shaped figure, ruddy cheeks, and neatly cut short hair, began to chuckle merrily at Li Wei’s words, highly amused.

“Of course, I know, I know.”

“I also know you’re our captain, you’re the perfect James Bond in my heart. Oh my God, yesterday’s match was fantastic, we’re having a dream-like season.”

Li Wei, “Oh, did you watch the live broadcast too?”

The nurse nodded, “Radio. Oh right, are you looking for the chemotherapy room? God, our kids are going to be over the moon, their only interest while undergoing chemotherapy is listening to the match broadcasts on the radio, home or away, without missing a game.”

Kelsey was quite surprised, “I had no idea there was a Chieftain fan club here.”

The nurse beamed, “Ha-ha, of course, once a Chieftain—”

“Always a Chieftain.” Kelsey and the nurse said in unison.

But Li Wei noticed another detail, “Kids?”

The nurse, unaware of any anomaly but with a touch of solemnity in her smile, “Yes, our department is quite special, all the kids undergoing chemotherapy here are under eighteen. They… they might face different situations, including with their parents.”

Under eighteen years old.

That is to say, before their lives had even begun, they were facing the possibility that the end might arrive prematurely.

At this, Kelsey and Mahomes’ smiles slowly faded away.

Cancer was already a grave trial, for anyone; for these minors, it was an unimaginably rough journey.

It wasn’t easy for the children, nor for the parents.

The nurse immediately understood, “So, which child are you here to visit?”

Li Wei collected his thoughts, “Felix Gray.”

Realization dawned on the nurse, “Felix.” She took a deep breath and showed a determined smile, “Felix is very strong; he’s always fighting. God, he’s one hundred percent a Chieftain, refusing to surrender. If Felix knew you guys showed up, he’d probably be crazy happy.”

As she spoke, the nurse stood up and took the initiative to lead the way.

The pale, narrow corridor seemed vast and deep, as if it had no end. The smiles lingering at the corners of the mouth also quietly settled down.

Outside a hospital room, a middle-aged woman in a light gray long dress looked towards the doctor in front of her, her face filled with faint hope.

The doctor spoke quietly, and the middle-aged woman was momentarily startled. Just as she began to speak, her snot and tears broke down, yet she didn’t care about that, “You mean, it worked?”

“Yes, Ms. Galas, so far it seems to be effective…” the doctor affirmed once more.

The woman hastily wiped away her tears, revealing a smile, and nodded in confusion, “Oh, that’s great news, great news.” However, her tears just wouldn’t stop, dripping down continuously.

Even without knowing what had happened, one could still feel the relief and joy of that moment.

As Li Wei passed by, his eyes inadvertently intersected with those of the middle-aged woman. He gave a smile, nodded gently in greeting, and cast an encouraging glance.

The middle-aged woman responded with a grateful smile.

Then.

They just crossed paths like that.

The chemotherapy room was not far ahead.

Before even opening the door to the room, the sounds coming from inside were excited and intense—

“…and that’s when the rookie took the stage.”

“All eyes were on the field, the game too tense and close to afford any distractions, even the live broadcast cameras missed this moment.”

“But I saw it, a casual glance, and I immediately noticed that figure.”

“Composed, cool, unaffected, as if nothing had happened, the path ahead of him opened up as naturally as the Red Sea parting for Moses.”

“He just appeared like that.”

“You can’t imagine how I felt at that moment, and I couldn’t put it into words, but it was then I knew we could win the game.”

“The rookie, just appeared like that—”

Creak.

The door to the chemotherapy room was pushed open, and a tall and upright figure appeared at the entrance, casting a large shadow that naturally brought a sense of oppression, making the eyes in the room involuntarily gather in that direction, except for the one standing in the center with his back to the door.

He was still gesticulating wildly and spitting as he recounted the story from yesterday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium that happened off camera.

However, everyone else in the room stared at the door with their mouths agape, in utter disbelief at what they were seeing.

The boy in the center shouted, “We all screamed in unison!”

From the side, “Li Wei!”

The boy looked over with a face full of surprise, “Right, that’s it, Li Wei, we all started shouting together.”

“Li Wei! Li Wei! Li Wei!”

Noisily, sporadically, the chants rose and fell.

Felix’s eyes went wide, “Right, right, that’s it.” As he noticed the room’s focus shifting, he also turned around.

Then he saw three figures at the door, crowded into the narrow doorway like Snow White entering the house of the seven dwarves.

Felix was outright stunned.
