Chapter 49

C49 – The Secret of Cultivation

Lee Tian knew that most animals wouldn’t touch carrion. So by playing dead, he figured he had a good shot at dodging the lethal embrace of predators.

He had chosen a clever angle to lie down, one that allowed him a clear view of the pond.

The sound of water splashing announced the arrival of two odd creatures clambering onto the bank.

Peering through barely opened eyes, Lee Tian couldn’t believe it—a crocodile and a wolf! But this was no ordinary crocodile; it had unusually long legs and stood upright. And the wolf, it was a sight to behold, its form crackling with tiny, fierce bolts of lightning. They were massive, each the size of a small elephant.

They began conversing in the tongue of beasts as soon as they reached the shore.

“Did that gorilla and ant that entered earlier die?” inquired the crocodile.

The Electric Wolf, its body shimmering with electricity, sniffed the air, picking up the scent of blood, and noticed the lifeless black gorilla. “They’re dead. They were here to offer sacrifices to the Fox God,” it stated.

“Was that ant also a sacrifice to the Fox God?” The crocodile eyed the motionless Lee Tian, puzzled.

“It looks dead. If it wasn’t here to sacrifice to the Fox God, perhaps it came to learn our ways of cultivation?” chuckled the Electric Wolf.

Hearing this, the Alligator hastily clamped a hand over the Electric Wolf’s mouth, cautioning, “Wolfy, keep it down. We can’t let the other animals discover our cultivation secrets!”

The Electric Wolf let out a hearty laugh. “You worry too much. We’ve been practicing here for ages. Every animal that comes is here for the Fox God, not to steal our techniques.”

“Besides, everything we encounter up here is already dead. They’re not even fit to eat!” It spat disdainfully and rolled its eyes at Lee Tian, feigning death, clearly unimpressed.

While the Electric Wolf was brash, the Alligator was the picture of composure and caution.

Concerned the Electric Wolf might slip up again, the Alligator pressed, “Enough talk. Let’s get back to our cultivation before another creature comes to sacrifice itself and spots us!”

Having spoken its piece, the Electric Wolf let out a haughty laugh. “With our current level of cultivation, we don’t need to fear any creature.”

The alligator had reached its limit and began to stride deeper into the Cave Hall, muttering as it went, “We haven’t even fully mastered the first part of the cultivation technique left by the Fox God. What right do we have to make such claims?”

No sooner had it finished speaking than its form vanished into the depths of the Cave Hall, seemingly entering a cave.

“What are you babbling about? We’re on the verge of a breakthrough!” barked the Electric Wolf, quickly trailing after the alligator.

Once the Electric Wolf was a good distance away, Lee Tian cautiously turned. He gazed in the direction they had departed, committing their path to memory.

So, there was a path there. But where did it lead?@@novelbin@@

Yet, from the alligator and Electric Wolf’s exchange, it appeared there was something valuable inside that cave!

Lee Tian waited until the alligator and Electric Wolf were completely out of sight before he gingerly rose and exited the cavern.

The alligator and the Electric Wolf were no ordinary beasts. Their conversation revealed an intelligence surpassing that of other animals.

He was concerned that if he lingered, they might realize he was feigning death.

And that would spell serious trouble for him.

They were clearly no simple creatures. If they caught on to his ruse, his feigned death could become all too real.
