Chapter 823: Chapter 826: Unexpected Call (2) (Extra 4)
“Ben Lucas?” Lily paused for a moment.
The voice on the other end of the line sounded like a child’s, but the tone carried an indescribable chill.
It was a bit like a deliberate imitation of an adult’s indifference, yet it seemed to be a part of his nature to be so aloof.
“I apologize.” Thinking that the caller might be a child, she softened her voice a bit.
She didn’t know anyone named Ben Lucas, but still politely asked, “Do you need something from me?”
The voice on the phone paused for a moment before continuing, “I heard you have 68% of the Gray family’s shares.”
By now, Lily was quite certain that the person on the other end was a child.
And likely not very old at that.
His voice had similarities to Abbie’s but sounded even more mature and indifferent than hers.
It was precisely because of the cold tone in his voice that Lily initially couldn’t believe he might just be a child.
The questioning voice on the other end persisted, “Tell me, why do you have that 68% of the shares?”
“Well…” Although Lily generally had a soft spot for children, this child’s way of speaking was somewhat too aggressive.
Even though he was the one seeking help now, there was a sense that he felt entitled to ask such questions.
Lily felt a bit mischievous, curling the corner of her lips, “I’m sorry, that’s a trade secret, and I’m not at liberty to disclose it.”
“…” The other end fell silent yet again.
After waiting a few seconds, without hearing the child speak again, Lily almost thought he was about to hang up in anger when that overly mature voice for a child rang out once more.
“I heard you’re preparing to sue Rowena Gray?”
Originally, Lily had a strange sense of affection for this child.
But upon his mention of Rowena Gray, that affection waned.
Could this child be associated with Rowena Gray?
That would explain how he knew the phone number to the CEO’s office at the Gray Group.
“Yes, we’re preparing to sue her; she has committed many crimes. My little friend, what’s wrong? Do you want to plead for her?”
The Ben Lucas on the other end furrowed his brow at Lily’s words.
Instinctively, he didn’t like Rowena Gray and Milly Gray.
But for certain reasons…
“No, I won’t interfere as long as the charges you bring against her are true. However, one of them, about obtaining 68% of the Gray shares through forgery and fraud, is not true.”
“I was the one who gave her those shares. Before you came into the picture, by rights of inheritance, those shares should have originally been with me.”
If it were not for this Lily Redington, holding the original shares, Rowena’s shares would still be legally protected.
After all, no one knew that his mother had given the original shares to someone else before she died.
“Wait, wait…” Lily suddenly found herself at a loss for words.
“You just said that you gave the Gray shares in Rowena’s hands to her? Your name is Ben Lucas… Your surname is Lucas, Ben Lucas, how do you write ‘Ben’ and ‘Lucas’?”
Her child, her child…
Lily’s hand gripping the phone trembled uncontrollably.
She never imagined that just a few days after her return, she would personally receive a phone call from her Ben!
The boy on the other end frowned again; this woman was very strange.
However, the boy, who usually didn’t like to talk much, strangely found himself telling her, “The ‘Ben’ is written like the ‘Ben’ in ‘Ben Han,’ and the ‘Lucas’ is written like the ‘Lucas’ in ‘Lucas Leng’.”
Ben Han Lucas Leng…
Lily’s vision began to blur as she pictured a face strikingly similar to Abbie’s.
Compared to Abbie’s carefree attitude, however, this child’s eyes seemed to bear a deeper, colder chill.
Ben Han Lucas Leng, what a chillingly cold name.
Her Ben, her Ben… was supposed to love smiling so much…
