Chapter 829: Chapter 832: Why don’t you ask her yourself, Mr. Lucas? (Extra 2)
“How could that be? This task was specifically assigned by Mr. Cooper, and if you don’t agree…” Director Cooper blurted out the truth in his urgency.
“Oh? So this task was assigned by Mr. Cooper himself, huh?” Lily laughed, her smile blossoming like a flower nourished by rain.
The coldness on her face once again bloomed into brilliance.
“Since that’s the case, you should just give a straightforward report back. Tell him that I don’t want to act anymore. I won’t state the specific reasons, and you don’t know them either. Hmm, you could suggest to Mr. Cooper that if he calls me himself to ask, maybe I will tell.”
Lily’s cunning smile made Director Cooper break out in a cold sweat.
“Then, then wait here for a bit, I’ll make a call.”
Director Cooper didn’t know what had come over him; he wouldn’t normally dare to disturb Mr. Cooper over such a trivial matter.
But with his over twenty years of work experience, he somehow felt that this woman named Alice might truly have a unique influence on Mr. Cooper.
He asked Lily to sit in the lounge while he went out to call Benjamin Lucas IX.
“Mr. Lucas, the situation is as follows. Normally, I wouldn’t bother Ethan Wilson with this sort of thing, but… as you know, this task was personally assigned by him, and we didn’t anticipate Arianna Brooks refusing to sign. What do you think…”
On the other end of the phone, Benjamin Lucas IX lifted the edge of his gold-framed glasses and cursed.
“Holy shit, is that woman really refusing the contract? She’s turning down three million seven hundred fifty thousand just like that? Are you sure she’s not playing hard to get, trying to negotiate terms with you?”
“Mr. Lucas, I can assure you, she’s not joking. If it weren’t for the fact that she heard I was going to call Ethan Wilson, she would probably have gotten up and left already. Maybe you should still discuss this with him, see what Ethan Wilson thinks?”
If he couldn’t handle the task assigned by Mr. Cooper, Director Cooper truly didn’t know what the consequences would be.
“Well… okay then, just wait, I’ll ask Ethan Wilson,” Benjamin Lucas IX answered, unable to suppress his curiosity.
He really wanted to know what Ethan Wilson meant by his interest in that woman.
He said he wanted to promote her, but never met her.
Despite offering her a variety of generous terms, he made no further gestures.
He had once thought Ethan Wilson was planning to seduce her.
After knocking on the office door and receiving permission, Benjamin Lucas IX entered.
“Mr. Lucas, Director Cooper just called to say that Arianna Brooks has refused the heroine role in that film.”
His words interrupted Aidan Lucas’s focus on his paperwork.
He looked up, his penetrating gaze narrowing slightly as he swept a cool glance at Benjamin Lucas IX.
Benjamin Lucas IX inwardly groaned, that chilly gaze filled with latent anger couldn’t have made it clearer that Mr. Lucas was in a bad mood.
It seemed he had come at a bad time.
“Heh… it seems I was mistaken. Such a trivial matter—I shouldn’t have disturbed you, Mr. Lucas. I’ll leave now.”
Just as Benjamin Lucas IX turned to leave, a cold and stern voice came from behind him, “Wasn’t she interested in playing that role? Why is she refusing?”
The woman had tried hard during the audition.
He had thought she really wanted that role, which is why he had reserved it for her.
Even though she was only a newcomer with unrefined acting skills.
“This… Director Cooper said it’s not about the salary, apparently just a lack of interest. Maybe, Ethan Wilson, you could call to show your concern?”
Unable to fathom Aidan Lucas’s thoughts, Benjamin Lucas IX cautiously made the suggestion.
After he finished speaking, the air in the room seemed to freeze instantaneously, ominously silent.
What do you think?
