Don't Provoke the Turtle

Vol.1 - Chapter 001 – There is a turtle

Set a small goal first: survive for a hundred days!

In a pond deep in the mountains, a turtle the size of a dinner plate made a firm decision.

He was Su He, an ordinary young man from China on Earth in his previous life. In this life, he was reincarnated as an ordinary turtle in the Mysterious Wasteland. Fortunately, he didn't experience the confusion of rebirth and retained the memories and wisdom of his past life.

At this moment, most of Su He's turtle body was buried in the mud, leaving only two nostrils slowly blowing bubbles.

Around the pond, more than twenty wild wolves patrolled back and forth, while on a nearby hill, the Wolf King squinted his eyes, overlooking the entire pond.

They were all looking for the turtle.

Their eyes were filled with anger and murderous intent, as if Su He had dug up their ancestral graves.

Su He hadn't done much, just snatched away the Wolf King's chance to undergo the Demon Subduing Transformation...

How petty!

In the Mysterious Wasteland, there were immortals and ghosts, gods and demons, but the demons here were different from those in the legends of Su He's previous life.

Not just any beast had the chance to cultivate a human form and become a demon.

Beasts could only advance to become Exotic Beasts; cultivation couldn't grant them a human form.

Every sixty years in the Mysterious Wasteland, there was a "Starfall," like a meteor shower, with light scattering across the land. Afterward, Demon Morphing Fruits would grow on the ground. The fruit would grow for three days, bloom for three days, and bear fruit for three days. When ripe, the fruit resembled a sweet date, wrinkled and semi-transparent.

Only by consuming the Demon Morphing Fruit and digesting it could one transform into a human form and become a demon.

The Demon Morphing Fruit had a deadly allure for beasts.

Half a month ago, a Starfall occurred, and a Demon Morphing Fruit grew on the muddy shore of the pond. The Wolf King led his pack, driving away all strong enemies around, waiting for the fruit to mature.

But at the moment it ripened, a turtle suddenly stretched its neck from the mud, plucked the fruit, and dove into the pond, never to emerge again.

The Wolf King was dumbfounded, watching the turtle escape.@@novelbin@@

Then the entire wolf pack went berserk, madly diving into the pond with frantic dog paddles and wolf howls.

Fortunately, Su He could dive and stay at the bottom of the pond, or he would have been torn apart.

These pups had pretty good swimming skills!

For the next seven days, the entire wolf pack stopped hunting and surrounded the pond. Occasionally, a wild wolf would dive in, dog paddling repeatedly to search the pond.

The wolf pack knew that the long-shelled reptile hadn't escaped. The scent of the Demon Morphing Fruit still lingered around.

They wouldn't rest until they found it!

Su He lay motionless at the bottom of the pond, time passing by the second.

Finally, he couldn't hold it any longer. He gently moved his limbs, sliding out of the mud, and swam towards the surface, his nostrils poking through the lotus leaves.

Inhale—

Exhale—

Inhale—

Exhale—

Escape!

The breath he exhaled carried the scent of the Demon Morphing Fruit, instantly alerting the wolf pack. The Wolf King howled, leading the wild wolves back into the pond.

Su He dove straight to the bottom. Instead of burrowing into the mud, he retreated into his shell, remaining motionless.

The wolves had excellent dynamic vision. Burrowing into the mud would stir up the water and surely get him discovered. It was better to hide in his shell, using the natural camouflage of algae on his shell to conceal himself.

The wolf pack paddled around for a while, finding nothing, and reluctantly returned to the shore.

Su He quietly swam to the surface to breathe. As soon as the wolves shook off the water, they howled and charged back into the pond.

After five or six rounds, Su He finally finished breathing. The suffocating feeling of oxygen deprivation completely faded.

He took a deep breath, filled his belly with air, and gently paddled with his four turtle paws, sinking back to the bottom.

Just wait a little longer. In at most ten days, the summer lotus leaves would cover the pond, making it much safer. And with each passing day, Su He absorbed more of the Demon Morphing Fruit, and the scent would gradually fade.

At the bottom of the pond, a Giant Salamander was hunting a carp. The salamander was as still as a rock, and as the carp passed by, it snapped its jaws, ready to swallow it whole.

Su He paddled over, bit the carp, flipped backward, paddled with his front paws, and kicked with his hind feet, flipping the salamander and snatching the carp away.

The salamander rolled a few times at the bottom of the pond, finally stabilizing itself, looking at Su He in bewilderment.

This turtle thing stole my food? Isn't it on my menu too?

Su He bit the carp to death, tossed it aside, and stared intently. As for the salamander behind him—who was the prey and who was the predator? Didn't that depend on size?

Damn it, if I were the size of a millstone, that pack of wolves would be snacks in no time.

Su He stared at the carp, and soon, a fist-sized die appeared out of nowhere, spinning on the carp.

Three points!

The carp suddenly turned into three.

The Unfortunate One!

Su He casually pushed the carp aside.

This die was his golden finger after crossing over.

Whenever Su He snatched something from someone else, it would appear, and the stolen item would multiply.

Su He hadn't fully grasped the specific rules of multiplication. Sometimes the quantity doubled, sometimes the weight, and sometimes the volume.

There were even a few times when it wasn't multiplication but exponentiation!

And there was a small chance it wasn't a quantitative increase but a qualitative one!

Just like when he stole the Wolf King's Demon Morphing Fruit. Originally, it was just a jelly-like, semi-transparent sweet date. After the die rolled a five, the fruit didn't multiply but turned blood red, vibrant and full.

It directly enhanced the quality of the Demon Morphing Fruit!

That's why, even though Su He had already eaten the fruit, just the lingering scent kept the wolf pack from leaving.

Today, Su He wanted to enhance the quality of the carp.

Having consumed the Demon Morphing Fruit, he was now like a fetus developing in the womb, the best time to enhance his potential and talent. After a hundred days, when the fruit was fully digested and his talent solidified, he wouldn't have such a good opportunity again.

But chances to enhance quality were rare; getting one in five or six rolls was already good.

The three carp drifted away with the current, and the salamander didn't dare to snatch them. It remembered that it had been beaten by this shelled creature just yesterday!

It shook its head, turned in another direction, and resumed hunting.

About two hours later, it caught a red carp, just about to swallow it, when that damned turtle charged over again, biting, kicking, and paddling, snatching its carp and disappearing.

The salamander cried, wailing like a baby.

Su He hid to the side, the die spinning out, landing on four points.

The carp didn't multiply, but the ordinary red carp suddenly emitted an enticing fragrance, stirring up half the pond.

Quality ×4.

The salamander, which had been wailing to the side, froze for a moment, its eyes suddenly changing. Like a hungry tiger, it lunged at the red carp, mouth wide open.

Smack!

Su He slapped it aside, and before it could show a fierce expression, he twisted his head and tore off a big chunk of fish meat.

The taste was fragrant and incredibly tender.

The salamander charged again, but Su He, holding the red carp, flipped over, using his shell to block the salamander as he feasted.

On the shore, the wolves were agitated, their howls echoing mournfully.

There was treasure at the bottom of the pond, but the wolves couldn't dive.
