Chapter 36 - 37 – The Power of a Cosmic Cataclysm, The Soul Beasts’ Apocalypse

Chapter 36 - 37 – The Power of a Cosmic Cataclysm, The Soul Beasts’ Apocalypse

In the outer region of the Star Dou Great Forest, soul beasts were scurrying about nervously, their gazes repeatedly drifting upward toward the dark swarm of Overlords looming in the sky.

The presence of those two Overlord Warships alone sent overwhelming pressure crashing down upon them.

Like ancient behemoths, their colossal forms didn't emit soul power—but the sheer ferocity, savagery, and oppressive aura of the Zerg permeated the air. The countless Overlords blanketing the skies felt like they were going to devour the heavens themselves.

Tsssshhh—!

Suddenly, the grassy terrain beneath the soul beasts split open.

From the fractures emerged pitch-black, deep chasms—mysterious passageways that seemed endless. Strangely, even these tunnels were lined with lush, green grass.

Dark. Eerie. These winding paths appeared every few hundred meters, draping the entire forest in a chilling and unnatural atmosphere.

Silent. Deadly quiet.

In this massive forest, aside from the beasts' own breaths and growls, there wasn't a single sound—no birdsong, no insects, nothing.

The towering trees, shrouded in shadow, looked twisted and grim.

Lin Fan watched this sinister scene with satisfaction—it was the perfect ambiance: dark, unsettling, and filled with dread.

After a moment, he gave the command:

"Overmind, strip away the Creep's disguise. I want these soul beasts to truly tremble."

[As you command, Supreme Overlord.]

Shhhwaa—

A wave of sound like rushing water echoed across the forest.

The soul beasts looked down, shocked to find the grass beneath them was... fading?

A wave of invisible energy spread outward, and all across the region, the grass and wildflowers vanished in unison.

In their place emerged pulsating, purple-black biomass, writhing and surging like a tidal wave, consuming every inch of the land.

The exposed Creep Mat churned with bubbling tissue and twitching flesh. Like a grotesque brushstroke, it painted the forest in its final, horrific color.

A forest bathed in darkness and silence.

A sky smothered by monstrous Overlords.

Tunnels yawning open beneath their feet.

And now, a seething, alien terrain devouring the land.

It was like the end of the world for the soul beasts.

Their fear peaked. Their spirits teetered on the edge of collapse.

In the trees above, countless Enchantment Parasites flitted through the air in small clusters, releasing their hallucinogenic dust.

Some soul beasts began showing bloodshot eyes, pacing restlessly, overcome by agitation.

Others began glowing yellow or purple, activating their soul power in desperation, trying to ward off the fear creeping into their minds.

Those with weaker spiritual resistance—especially among the century and millennia-old beasts—began to show unnatural red glints in their eyes, lashing out with their soul abilities in panic.

Some even turned on the trees and ground, unleashing attacks in a frenzy.

Lin Fan sneered.

"Strike the mind before the body. Soul beasts are no different.

All creatures with thoughts and emotions are vulnerable to fear."

He had only set the stage—yet already, many soul beasts stood at the brink of collapse. The psychological pressure alone had saved him tremendous effort.

"Overmind. Begin the harvest."

[As you command.]

BOOM... BOOM...!

The earth rumbled once more. From every tunnel and crevice, the Zerg Swarm erupted like a tidal wave.

Endless hordes, packed densely together, surged out—eyes glowing crimson, blades flashing in the dark, screeching as they charged into battle.

Zerglings took the lead, darting forward like ravenous hounds. Agile and compact, they leapt between trees and over rocks, ignoring terrain as if it didn't exist. Like a black tide, they spread across the forest with terrifying speed.

Every soul beast in their path—every living thing in sight—was instantly swarmed by a dozen, or even dozens of Zerglings.

Even if a beast was completely covered in Zerglings, those circling outside would still reach between the gaps with their razor-sharp claws, stabbing into any exposed flesh.

And from over 200 meters away, Hydralisks locked their vertical red pupils onto the chaos, their venom sacs pulsing.

Streams of corrosive acid and venom blasted forward, exploding on the soul beasts in bursts of toxic spray.

Collateral damage?

Lin Fan didn't care.

Any fallen Zerg unit would be dragged away by the Drones, tossed into the Corruption Pool, and recycled into energy.

Death meant rebirth.

No loss was permanent.

Centennial soul beasts couldn't even scream before they were completely consumed by the Zerg tide.

The forest canopy, the ground, even the sky became a storm of Zerg descending from the Overlord fleet like deadly rainfall.

A black, roaring sea of monsters engulfed the region in its entirety.

By now, the outer region had transformed into a living Zerg hive—no gaps, no escape. Rivers of blood flowed freely... only to be absorbed by the Creep, fueling the swarm further.

As for the stronger soul beasts—those of millennia or ten-thousand-year strength—they fared little better.

Roaches stood firm at the front, their thick armor absorbing damage and trapping the soul beasts within narrow zones.

Meanwhile, Hydralisks and Corruptors bombarded them with venom and corrosive acid, melting flesh, dissolving limbs, and driving them into howling agony.

The more durable soul beasts—those with thicker hides and higher defenses—were marked for special treatment.

From the sky, Overlord Warships rained down bright green Suicide Bugs, exploding on impact and reducing even ten-thousand-year soul beasts to mangled chunks of meat.

On the outskirts, rows of Spore Crawlers rose from the earth, pulsing with dark light, acting as the final sweepers for this horrific banquet.

Buzz—!

Thick spikes erupted from the ground, piercing through soul beasts and lifting them into the air like skewers.

Even as their bodies glowed with unleashed soul power, it was useless.

They could only roar in despair as they were impaled and torn apart.

The scent of blood was so thick, it felt tangible, wafting thousands of meters beyond the battlefield.

This place had become hell itself.

And the Zerg's roars?

They were like the whispers of demons, heralding the end.
