Chapter 684 - 686: Seeking Destiny
Chapter 684: Chapter 686: Seeking Destiny
It’s true that Li Yunzi does not get along with Nan Lingsha.
As for Nan Yuso’s relationship with Li Yunzi, it seems a bit elusive.
On the surface, Nan Yuso calls Li Yunzi ‘sister’ this and ‘sister’ that, but she seems to always be opposing her covertly, though it’s mostly over minor matters.
“Where are you hurt?” Li Yunzi gently supported Zhu Minglang, noticing that he appeared exhausted and weak, his complexion pale without a trace of color.
Zhu Minglang exhaled a breath of air that turned to frost. He glanced at the city wall with lingering fear and said, “I just feel a bit cold. I can’t seem to warm up.”
“Yuso,” Li Yunzi turned back to look at Nan Yuso who was holding the Immortal Rabbit Dragon, signaling her to let the little Chang’e help Zhu Minglang dispel the ghostly chill in his body, “heal Minglang’s injuries.”
...
“This kind of ghostly chill is mostly hidden within the muscles. To remove it, I need to touch the entire body of my brother-in-law. As a younger sister, it’s quite embarrassing to do such a thing,” Nan Yuso said with a seductive and enchanting smile, not minding the many people around. Her tone and demeanor seemed deliberately designed to suggest an inappropriate relationship between them.
Zhu Minglang was actually quite used to this by now.
With a temperament as unpredictable as June rain, Nan Yuso acted as if she wanted to compete with Li Yunzi for favor but never really gave Zhu Minglang any chance to overstep boundaries. It was truly an innocent relationship between a brother-in-law and his sister-in-law!
But she just loved to tease!
Every time she teased until someone’s heart itched, she would turn around with a frigid and stunning grace, icy and proud as frosty snow!
Li Yunzi couldn’t be bothered with this bewitchingly mischievous younger sister.
Feeling the pressure from Li Yunzi’s gaze, the Immortal Rabbit Dragon hopped down on its own and began to earnestly heal Zhu Minglang. Despite Nan Yuso’s words about propriety, she still came over and placed her soft hand on Zhu Minglang’s icy forehead.
Closing her eyes, Nan Yuso began to channel spiritual power into Zhu Minglang, helping his body warm up.
However, the Night Empress’s ghostly chill was incredibly potent. As Nan Yuso worked to dispel the chill from Zhu Minglang, she too was affected by it, her skin growing pale, her rosy cheeks gradually losing their color, and her plump, beautiful lips turning pale and purplish.
At this moment, the Nuwa Dragon approached, signaling Nan Yuso to lead the ghostly chill towards her, as she, being a Nuwa Dragon, wasn’t fearful of this ghostly breath.
Nan Yuso nodded and, together with the Immortal Rabbit Dragon, began to redirect the ghostly poison from Zhu Minglang’s body to the Nuwa Dragon.
“Are you feeling warmer now?” Li Yunzi saw that Zhu Minglang’s skin was no longer so pallid and asked softly.
“Yes, a bit better.”
“The Night Empress is a terrifying being. Fortunately, you were clever in dealing with her, and Yuso repaired the city wall in time. Otherwise…” Li Yunzi said.
Mentioning the city wall’s repair, Zhu Minglang’s gaze also involuntarily fell on Nan Yuso.
“Miss Yu Suo, the secret of the Ancestral Dragon City-State’s State Wall is actually in your hands, isn’t it?” Zhu Minglang said.
“Hmph, it’s not like it’s only you and Li Yunzi who can protect Li Chuan,” Nan Yuso retorted with a haughty coyness.
“Everybody should be safe tonight, but the city-state continues to sink further. Tomorrow and the day after, we must break through this Hundred Miles Quicksand,” Zhu Minglang said.
Li Yunzi and Nan Yuso both nodded.
After battling from day into night, everyone was exhausted.
Nan Yuso had already fortified the city-state wall, and the quicksand would probably not be able to break through the wall anymore. This night everyone could rest easy; come daylight, more important decisions awaited.
…
Settling into the Li Family’s other courtyard, Zhu Minglang recuperated there.
Nan Yuso decided to sleep over as well since driving away the ghostly chill from Zhu Minglang’s body would take time.
Zhu Minglang fell into a deep sleep, but when he woke up in the middle of the night, he could tell that the entire Li Family Courtyard had sunk a bit, and the panic persisted outside the courtyard walls in the city.
The breach in the city wall made many city-state inhabitants aware of the terror of darkness.
Many would rather be buried with the Ancestral Dragon City-State than be gnawed to the bone by Nightwalkers in the wilderness.
Zhu Minglang gradually woke up and saw Li Yunzi asleep at the table beside him. He called the maid Frost over to help Li Yunzi to her room to sleep…
But Frost must have been sound asleep too, so Zhu Minglang simply got up himself and gently lifted Li Yunzi from the chair.
Fragrant, soft, and smooth, he came close to Li Yunzi’s face. Zhu Minglang couldn’t help but lean in and steal a kiss. But as he noticed Li Yunzi’s rosy lips quickly turning pale, Zhu Minglang refrained from any improper thoughts. He hurriedly carried her back to her warm room and gently placed her on the bed, tucking her in properly.
After letting go of Li Yunzi, her cheeks gradually regained their rosiness, returning to their natural color. Zhu Minglang also realized that his own body had not completely expelled the ghostly chill, and touching others during this stage could cause them to be infected as well.
“Hm?” She murmured softly, seemingly awakened by his movement.
She opened her eyes, her long lashes quivering. Her excessively gorgeous face always tugged at Zhu Minglang’s heartstrings. He felt that even without the dungeon incident, he probably would have fallen for Li Yunzi at first sight—her allure was enough to easily provoke a man’s protective and possessive instincts!
Once, Zhu Minglang thought he was someone who would never judge by appearances, yet here he was, completely conquered by beauty.
“I didn’t mean to wake you up,” Zhu Minglang apologized, deliberately keeping some distance to avoid letting the ghostly cold on him spread to her again.
“Young Master, a lot of things have happened outside, haven’t they?” the awakened beauty asked softly.
Zhu Minglang scratched his head.
Had there been a change?
When Li Yunzi was tired, she would easily fall into a deep sleep.
As she slept, Li Xinghua would awaken.
And because of the aftereffects of Soul Ignition, the times when Li Yunzi was awake and when Li Xinghua was awake were nearly equal…
However, it was in fact the guidance of Li Xinghua that was needed now; her Prophecy Technique was extremely important. Breaking through the current predicament of the Hundred Miles Quicksand was not something that could be solved by the martial strength of Li Yunzi and Zhu Minglang.
“Yes, our situation is very bad right now,” Zhu Minglang said.
Thereupon, Zhu Minglang briefly described the recent events to Li Xinghua and detailed the actions of the Sparrow Wolf God.
Li Xinghua had apparently conducted complex calculations before and found a fairly clear path of fate. She just sorted out the events and then told Zhu Minglang, “Young Master, the appearance of the Sparrow Wolf God in the buried city has actually given us an opportunity.”
“What do you mean?” Zhu Minglang didn’t quite understand.
“Xinghua will organize the details for you later, Young Master. Tonight, we shall visit a few people first,” Li Xinghua said.
“Which people?”
“Let’s start with Shang Zhuang, the one you captured,” Li Xinghua said.
Shang Zhuang?
Li Xinghua had mentioned before that Shang Zhuang carried clues of the Sparrow Wolf God’s fate.
Yet among those from the Temple of the Sparrow Wolf God, Shang Zhuang was not a particularly important character. On the contrary, it was Shang Hanxu who had perished suddenly due to the Curse of the God Servants; Zhu Minglang thought that Shang Hanxu might have more valuable information.
…
On arriving at the prison, Zhu Minglang saw that the sand had covered more than half the height of a person, and the detainees who used to sleep on straw bales now dared not sleep at all; they stood in fear on the sand, pulling their legs out of the sand from time to time.
“Zhu Minglang, Li Yunzi, let us go, you two!” Crown Prince Zhao Ying was getting desperate; he did not want to become a sacrificial offering for this city.
“You vicious couple, you’ve implicated so many people from the Supreme Court; do you not fear retribution?”
Zhu Minglang completely ignored the barking of these dogs; he led Li Xinghua straight to where Shang Zhuang was being detained.
Shang Zhuang squatted on the sand, looking very despondent.
As a proud God’s person, he couldn’t comprehend why he kept losing…
“Shang Zhuang, I have a few questions for you,” Zhu Minglang spoke up.
“I will not converse with you, and don’t treat me as one who fears death more than dishonor. Kill or flay me, do as you will!” Shang Zhuang said coldly.
Zhu Minglang glanced at Li Xinghua. @@novelbin@@
But Li Xinghua approached the cell and spoke with her gentle and dignified voice, “You’ve been desperately searching for the culprit who devastated your entire family. Now that you have the answer, are you thinking of taking your own life?”
Shang Zhuang raised his gaze, staring at the woman whose beauty was almost too captivating, and a glimmer of clarity shone through the murkiness in his eyes.
“And how do you know about my affairs?” Shang Zhuang challenged.
“When the Nothingness Fog disperses, more dream worlds that blur the lines of time and space flood into my mind. In one of these dream worlds, I saw you hiding under a divine statue, I saw thousands of withered corpses outside, and I also saw a devil cloaked in black linens who took everyone’s lives and departed with a swagger,” Li Xinghua explained.
Her simple description made Shang Zhuang’s face gradually twist with bulging veins as if that scene was replaying, and he crawled out from under the statue to find himself in a hell on earth!
An entire family, over a thousand people, all turned into mummies, and even the vibrant life of Shang Family Forest withered away!
“I was young at the time and survived only because I hid under the statue of Our God, the Sparrow Wolf. But my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, my relatives… I swore to find the murderer and not let his soul rest forever!” Shang Zhuang said with a voice filled with immense pain.
“Among your people, there were not a few powerful individuals. A small statue could not have been the sole reason for your survival. Everyone else perished, but you lived; it means the murderer purposely avoided the statue when casting his powers,” Li Xinghua said.
“The murderer must have feared the Sparrow Wolf God. My God saved my life, and I, Shang Zhuang, swear to follow him to the death. No matter what means you use to coerce me, I will not betray him!” Shang Zhuang asserted firmly.
“Have you ever considered that the murderer avoided the statue while casting his powers precisely because it was his own statue?” Li Xinghua posed the question.
After she finished, Shang Zhuang was as if struck by lightning, completely stunned in place!
What do you think?
