Chapter 262 A little lie goes a long way Part 2
A woman dressed in a skintight silky dress entered a conference room where a man with a stern look and a frown on his face was waiting for her. There were a couple more important figures on the room, but she didn't dare look at them. She had been called for a single purpose and she intended to spend the least amount of time in that place.
"Miss Tina Celes, I regret to inform you that Colonel Ethan Windfire's demise has been confirmed." The man who spoke was none other than Tina's father, though the way he spoke was nothing like the doting father people thought he was.
"Understood." Tina lowered her gaze feigning disappointment, though she struggled really hard not to let out a huge smile.
"Because of that we'll move on to Mark Jacobs." There wasn't any place for arguing or questions, his words were definitive.
Tina's relief turned into bitterness, for so long she had kept her head low in every situation. Even when they arranged her marriage with Ethan who in her eyes was as good as a cryptid, if not worse, but the thought of marrying someone like Mark threw her off completely.
It was one thing to marry a Colonel in the army with a promising career and many accomplishments, as devious Ethan was he was also capable but Mark was something entirely different. He was as vile as his brother, if not more, but he was just a bootlicker who enjoyed tormenting people he thought were beneath him, and that meant everyone not able to fight back.
She was aware that while marrying Ethan would have been a bad thing, at least all she would have had to do was to give him a son and attend social events. But Mark really had a crush on her and he wouldn't stop at that, he would most likely turn her life into hell.
"What if there was a more suitable candidate?" Tina spoke back to her father and although he remained unfazed, he was clearly surprised by this.
"Who would be more suitable than a Jacobs? They have a thriving construction business and we would also be able to make great connections with other cities, he's also a heavenly rank hunter like yourself and is well liked by society. We may be in control of this city at the moment, but all that is going down the drain because of the incompetence of the army."
"With all due respect, the delay caused on the mining operation was a fortuitous event that we could not have foreseen." Cassandra, one of the people sitting in the council spoke, though Tina's father ignored her altogether and continued.
"So tell me, who would be a better candidate? Who could strengthen our position more than a Jacobs family member?"@@novelbin@@
"Raider." Tina replied with a solid voice, though she was almost crumbling down on the inside.
"Who?"
"It's the founder and leader of the Dungeon Raiders, they're named after him."
"Interesting, call him immediately. I thought they were just kids who lucked out, but it doesn't surprise me that they have a strong backing. They managed to secure the former head of the Mapple security division after all."
"That would be impossible, no one knows where he is or how to contact him. He's been acting from the shadows this whole time." Tina replied.
"Then why bring him up on the first place?" Cassandra scoffed.
"Because," Tina cleared her throat. "I know people from their company and I already have a physical description of him. I can make use of my contacts on their company and get him to speak to us."
"Do you mean Uriel? That loser!? My sister is one of the founding members of that company, I think my contacts beat yours. I'll get him to marry me before you can even meet him."
"Don't make me laugh, who would want to marry a dirty," Tina realized too late how she began speaking casually to Cassandra in front of her father, something that she knew was highly improper, but at that point there was no backing down. "Enough!" The CEO of the Celes company slammed his hand on the table, making his daughter flinch and once the meeting ended Cassandra retreated back to her detachment with a new goal on her mind.
"Just wait and see Tina." She muttered as she dialed her sister to find out more about the mysterious leader of the dungeon raiders. Although cold and uncaring as always, Luna did ppick up the phone and begrudgingly answered her questions.
Most of what she said were half truths, but contrary to Nika or Medusa she wasn't one to exaggerate things or try to paint Uriel on a good light. Instead, she focused on his flaws of character as she also took the chance to vent a little.
"He is reckless, bold, does unnecessary things and overthinks a lot. He's also very greedy and mean." Luna's description was as concise as it was harmful, though the only one listening was Cassandra.
"Wow, he doesn't sound that great. What about his appearance? Is he handsome?" Cassandra asked hoping for at least one redeeming quality.
"He has a weird sense of fashion, but he's handsome." Luna replied.
"Can you introduce him to me? I would really like to meet him. I will totally owe you one little sis." Cassandra said with a very uncharacteristic cute and feminine tone of voice trying to convince her sister, but Luna's reply left her troubled.
"I don't think that would be a good idea."
"What? Why? You don't think I'm good enough for him?"
"I think you might be his type, but he's not yours. Besides, he's a serial womanizer."
"Who are you talking about?" A male voice was heard from Luna's end and she quickly hung up the phone leaving Cassandra alone with her thoughts. "A reckless, handsome man who wears a Fedora, it doesn't sound that bad and If Luna only has bad things to say about him, he must be quite the catch." A wicked smile appeared on Cassandra's face.
At that precise moment, somewhere in Europe, a certain british man felt chills run down his spine.
What do you think?
