Chapter 268 Let there be light Part 2
Uriel's eyes glimmered in blue as he rushed forward using Dash, he managed to dodge a water bullet and a punch to the face, but ended up stepping into a quicksand pond made by one of the rookies. Their traits were weak, but they were annoying and now that he was standing on quicksand he couldn't move anymore, which prompted the eclipse to stab him with a black claw made from its own body. "I got him!" The woman cheered after turning back to her human persona as Uriel fell limp into the quicksand.
"Good job! He must have been one of those rogue hunters we were warned about before leaving the city."
"Emma, what got into you?" One of her companions asked.
"No, no, this is all wrong!" The female know it all student covered her gaping mouth with her hand. Her expression was of utter despair as she realized that her friends not only got a human killed, but also took out the only chance they had to make it out alive.
She quickly pondered about her possibilities and decided to leave the place but before she could make it to the staircase she was stopped by the woman.
"Where are you going? You should stay for dinner." The woman licked her lips.
"N-no, thank you." Emma replied trying to keep her cool.
"Oh! but I insist!" The black smoke that was previously coming out of the building through the chimney started gathering inside the basement, covering the faint light of their gas lanterns like a blanket.
What followed were panicked screams along with cries of agony as Emma tried her best to climb out of the basement. Blindly, she patted her way out to the kitchen but since the skies were now covered with the eclipse ability, she couldn't see much.
She stumbled on the kitchen counter, then on a table, she hit her face on the door frame and then tripped on the living room carpet.
"Stop making a mess!" The woman angrily shouted from behind, her body covered in blood splatters that looked black under the faint light.
"Go away!"
"I can't let you escape or tell anyone about this place." The woman licked her lips.
"I won't tell, I promise, just let me go!" Emma cried.
"If you behave I might let you live for a day or two." The eclipse grabbed Emma by the neck, caring not to injure her or even cause her any pain. It's hand was covered in black smoke, but her face was clearly visible.
She looked just like a human being, but now that Emma was close enough, she realized there was something odd about her eyes. It was something she instinctively knew, though her mind refused to accept when she first saw the woman. She was a predator.
Emma fruitlessly attempted to release herself from the tight grip of the uncanny creature, but when she tried to activate her trait the eclipse squeezed her hand and the faint blue glimmer died on Emma's eye as she was being choked to death.
'Why? Why didn't I say I knew him from before? Why did I led everyone here? It's all my fault and now they're all dead.' Emma had spent what little energy she had struggling to release herself but failed and all she could do was regret her past decisions.
She was so ashamed of being an evolved that she hid that from everyone but her hunting party, her trait was so weak she could barely hunt horned rabbits in the barrenland but that wasn't enough to keep appearances on campus.
She was a top student, but her career choice wasn't popular and the only way she had to keep bullies at bay was to pretend she came from money which was getting more and more difficult and he pushed her hunting party to head into the lost city. All for a single purpose, to reunite with her mother.
A single tear ran down her cheek as she looked at the face of her would be killer, but in the blink of an eye everything changed as the cryptid's head rolled down the ground and Uriel appeared seemingly out of nowhere.
"You! You were dead! I saw that thing kill you!" Emma clasped her sore throat as she spoke.
Uriel ignored her and cleaned the blade on the host's body. Most cryptids would leave no traces behind after vanishing, but eclipses were parasitic entities that dwelled on their victim's skin and he knew from his experience with Rocky that the human host wouldn't vanish.
"The fact that I'm standing here is evidence to the contrary, so why bother denying the truth?" As the cryptid started to vanish, so did the black smoke and the sunlight slowly regained its place. "Hey, you're that annoying girl from class!" He said after finally recognizing Emma.
"Yes, I mean, no! I'm not annoying, you're just envious because I'm better than you."
"Huh? Whatever." Uriel shrugged and crouched down to pick up the flux orb left behind by the cryptid. Although he really wanted to store it in his trait, he didn't because his goal was to bring it back to Medusa so she could build the vehicle she promised.
"Uriel, can you hear me?" Luna's voice came out from Uriel's headphone as he walked out the building to a beautiful sunset.
"It's done, I got rid of the eclipse and got the entity level orb." He replied evidently proud of his achievement. 'And all it costed me was to be stabbed in the chest.' He didn't say the last out loud because Emma was still nearby.@@novelbin@@
"You need to go back to the city ASAP!" Sam shouted so loud Uriel was tempted to take off the headphone.
"Calm down, it's done. I'm safe now."
"You don't get it, it's not an eclipse!" Sam insisted.
"It's not, it was an eclipse."
"Stupid, stupid, stupid," Luna repeated over and over and then continued. "It's Slenderman."
What do you think?
