Chapter 289 Bloody what!?

Vivian led Uriel to her apartment which was located on the slums near the east gate, a place he never visited before and although it looked just like anywhere in the slums, the streets weren't so crowded and there were some ruinous buildings that seemed to predate 'the arrival'.

"What's this smell?" Uriel asked after picking up an unknown scent in the air, it wasn't unpleasant but it was strange.

"It's the sea, we're close to the shore and the gate leads directly to the beach."

"The sea? I thought it was too dangerous to go near the sea."

"Yes, it actually is, but some hunters get aquatic traits." Vivian explained as she entered the building.

Uriel never spared a thought about the possibility of people acquiring traits related to water, but now he wondered if Water warlock's blessing counted as such.

'Just how powerful would the blessing be if I was close to a huge mass of water like the sea?' He asked himself.

"I hope you don't mind using an elevator from the old times, it's a bit unreliable but my apartment is on the sixtieth floor and walking the stairs is impossible for me."

"I don't mind it." Uriel shrugged as he stepped inside with absolute confidence that even if the elevator fell to the ground from that high, he'll still survive.

Vivian pressed the button and the elevator started playing a soothing tune as it moved, mid way the lights started blinking but as they were about to reach Vivian's floor it stopped completely.

"I'm sorry, it's always like this." She made an excuse, but Uriel took out his smartphone only to check whether or not there were cryptids nearby just to be sure. Unfortunately for Uriel, he found something that terrified him even more than the presence of a cryptid: a corny text message sent by Medusa.

After the kiss she started clinging to him even more than before and he didn't know what to do. It wasn't that he didn't want to have a girlfriend, but he wanted someone to go on dates with and do fun normal stuff couples do.

It was something he never got to do with Tina since she was only using him to get good grades, but even if Medusa became his girlfriend they wouldn't be able to do that kind of thing either since she was hiding from the Mapple corporation.

While Uriel distracted himself thinking about Medusa, the lights turned on again and the steel box began moving again swiftly arriving at their destination.

Vivian put the key in and turned it, revealing a very cozy apartment decorated with more taste than money. There was a red couch in front of a TV and a low coffee table made with wood and glass with a small bowl with pebbles on the center.

"This is nice." Uriel said as he scanned the place looking for clues. As an archaeologist student he knew that people's possessions told the story of their life. He saw some old frames with family pictures of Vivian, her mom and a small child but the newer frames only contained pictures of Vivian and her sister.

"Thanks, make yourself comfortable, I'll make some coffee."

This allowed Uriel to continue his 'investigation' which was actually just snooping out of more boredom than curiosity. Then he noticed something interesting, a picture hanged on the wall of Vivian and her sister at the beach.

They were both wearing bikini type swimsuits, but what piqued Uriel's curiosity was the place where the picture was taken. The sand looked clean and the blue water seemed like a reflection of the clear sky above their heads.

"She's pretty, isn't she?" Vivian said as she handed Uriel a cup of hot coffee.

"Yeah, I guess. So, about the woman, is she here? I don't see anything that may presumably be from a third person living in this place."@@novelbin@@

"She comes and goes when she pleases, that's the most annoying thing."

"Have you tried speaking to her?"

"So many times, but she always ignores me."

"Did you try to offer a ransom for your sister?"

"I've tried everything already, I wouldn't have asked you for help if I hadn't."

They drank the cup of coffee in silence, but while Vivian thought it was the awkward kind of silence Uriel was actually focusing on his mystical sense. He sensed the faint presence of the neighbors, but none of them were hunters, he was certain of that since his mystical sense worked best when he was calm.

"How long until she comes?"

"It can be a couple minutes or a full day, but it's never been more than 24 hours since she appears."

"This is strange, is there anything else you can tell me about her?"

"I... I can't really be sure, but I think she really has it against Mary."

"Mary? What makes you think so?"

Vivian silently stood up and opened the bathroom door. The place was covered in red graffiti all over the place, the tiles, the bathtub, even the door. The only place that was spotless was the mirror, it was the same words over and over: Bloody Mary.

He didn't know whether to be angry at Vivian for omitting such an important clue or to pity her for the loss of her sister, because the words were written with blood, human blood. Though her death couldn't yet be confirmed and Uriel needed to get a closer look to try and figure out how fresh was the blood.

He grabbed a magnifying glass to study the handwriting. It was more blood than it could be extracted from a single person in one go, but now he was certain that at least some of the blood was only a couple hours, which meant that Vivian's sister was still alive.

Then, a sudden realization hit him, his expression stiffed and his mouth gaped.

"This is so much worse than I initially thought." He said with a grim expression.

"What is it!?"

"She's British!"
