Chapter 339 Sam's quest
"What the... Uriel? Uriel where are you?" A discombobulated Sam probed in the empty chamber he appeared, looking from side to side trying to figure out what just happened to him. One second he was goofing around with his friend, then the next one a flash of light appeared and he was in a completely different place.
Because of his trait, he didn't know whether the place was dark or not, but since there weren't any torches or light bulbs he, incorrectly, assumed it was. However, instead of making him feel vulnerable, he actually felt reassured by this.
After all, even though most cryptids were able to see in the dark, it still worked as a cover for cryptids and humans alike.
"What is this place?" He muttered as he poked his head over the sole entrance in the room, but that was all he needed to realize he wasn't in the cave anymore. Passage after passage, Sam was able to see all the way up to the last chamber, all the treasures, all the cryptids and also, the concealed door hidden behind the last wall.
Without so much as a second of hesitation, he launched himself forward in a sprint. The first couple rooms were empty, but even though the paths forked into several directions Sam's gut was telling that whatever lied beyond the concealed door had to be what he was looking for.
He breezed through the pigmies like they were nothing, then he faced a giant insect like creature he never seen before. The immense beetle towered over him, but it was no match for his enhanced physical attributes and incredibly fast reflexes. Sam managed to dodge each and every strike the bettle attempted, but the beetle had an ace up its sleeve.

A gurgling sound was followed by a green corrosive substance that hit directly beneath Sam's nimble feet as he activated his earring and smacked the beetle on the head. Its diamantine exoskeleton was impossible to pierce bare handed, but Sam was a heavenly rank and the blunt hit caused the cryptid to fall in a state of confusion.
What happened next couldn't even be called a fight as Sam trampled the bug, displaying the full extent of his physical prowess. Not even the advantage in limbs was of any help to the pitiful creature that met his end after the many hits liquified its internal organs.
The next rooms were empty, but Sam's sharp eyes warned him of the many traps that lied ahead. He skipped those he could by either crouching or flying over, but even when he failed and the mechanisms were activated couldn't cause him any harm thanks to his quick reflexes.
Sam had no need to read the scriptures in the walls and among the many traps and cryptid blocking his way, nothing was able to so much as slow him down.
A thrilling sensation rushed all over his body as he faced the concealed door. Somehow, he knew it would open for him and he was proven correct as a beautiful landscape opened in front of him, It was the sea.
The fresh smell of the ocean accompanied by the soothing sound of the calm waves sent shivers down his spine. There was no shore, only some rock formations that erupted from the waters like fangs on a cryptid's maw.
His heart began racing, though he wasn't scared, not in the slightest. The reason why he was so excited wasn't fear, it was something completely different. He activated his earring once more and his feet parted from the ground as the took flight, without ever taking his gaze from a specific rock formation. One that was so distant, no one but Sam could have seen it.
Sam braved the winds, unhindered by the cold and the ominous presence that came off from the bottom of the sea with his gaze set on that specific rock formation, taking rests only when absolutely necessary.
Upon reaching his destination, Sam slowly landed on the rock and started walking immediately.
He passed a few campfires, completely ignoring the smell of freshly cooked fish, ignoring the many people gathering around him, ignoring their hands on top of his shoulders and the soft approving pats on his back until he was there, right in front of the woman he loved who greeted him with the most dazzling smile.
Then, the Air spirit woman threw herself onto his arms and after a long hug, they kissed deeply as he caressed her long hair, revealing her long pointed ear and he let out in a whisper the following words:
"I'm home."
Somehow, his feelings transcended the language barrier and the woman replied by flapping her wings in a display of the most extreme joy. She then grabbed his hand and led him into a primitive tent, where the long overdue wedding night took place.
A while later, Sam emerged from the tent with a beet red face and his usually neat hair, disheveled beyond repair and he was greeted with all the tribe members of the Air spirit people who greeted him as one of their own. The loud cheering and celebration became a joyous roar once an immense surge of flux energy bursted out from the tent and Sam's wife walked out with a round object in her arms.
Over the following days, Sam knew nothing but happiness and pleasure. Married life suited him well, especially when he found himself surrounded by the beautiful, kind and accepting Air spirit people who treated him with the utmost respect. All of his needs were sated without the need to ask for anything and even Swallow chief treated him as his superior, bowing politely whenever they met.
Sam lived among them the happiest days of his life and with the help of his earring he was able to do all the things the Air spirit people were capable of. He loved fishing with them, learning their ways and spending quality time with his wife.
Sam was in absolue bliss, but that only lasted until a dreadful presence emerged from the sea threatening the lives of everyone in the rock they now called home.
