Dungeon Raider System

Chapter 348 Intervention

"Welcome to Starborgs, how may I help you?"

"I'd like a big cup, decaff, 1/3 almond milk, 1/3 soy milk, two pumps mocha, 2 pumps vanilla, 1 pump caramel, add caramel drizzle and a sprinkle of cinnamon..."

"Here's your order."

"But this is whole milk, I didn't order this. Also, my name isn't on the cup."

"Don't you know your own name?"

"I'm Megan."

"I can't deal with this today. Here, go nuts." The least reliable employee on the campus Starborgs handed the woman an empty cup, took off his apron and abandoned his work post leaving the woman stunned in place.

The man walked across the college campus with a dejected look on his face, keeping his head down as though life weighed too heavy on him. He was right where he always wanted to be and had the job he dreamed about so many times when he was broke, but everything felt empty.

After a long commute, he stood outside the door to his tiny apartment on the east district and he heaved a sigh of defeat while he pondered about his life choices. It was some sort of ritual he performed daily, to keep himself from bringing home all of his negative thoughts.

"Babe, I'm home." He said as he opened the door, where his lovely girlfriend waited to greet him with a soft kiss on the lips.

"How was work today?" She asked with a gaze that, no matter how hard she tried to avoid it, oozed pity.

"It was great... it was... great." He said as though trying to convince himself and his girlfriend leaned to hug him.

"Things will get better, you'll see..." She caressed the back of his head and toyed with his disheveled hair for a short while.

Although the apartment was located in the slums, it wasn't cheap. The reason for that was simple, it was so close to the beach that the fresh smell of the ocean sometimes leaked inside. If it was only a couple dozen floors higher it would also have a perfect sight to the sea, but that would also mean it would be a lot more expensive.

After eating a few cups of synthetic food, the couple sat on the couch staring at the wall while holding hands. They didn't have much, but they dearly enjoyed each other's company and the time their spent together doing nothing brought them closer than any TV show or videogame ever could.

Suddenly, a knock on the door broke the silence and the woman stood up to get it.

"I'm coming!"

"That's what she said." A muffled feminine voice was heard from the other side.

"Uhm... she just did." Another voice followed.

"No! Don't open the door, tell them I'm not here!" Panicked, the young man stood up and rushed to his bedroom.

"I told you this was pointless," Nika spoke to Luna by her side. As soon as the door was opened, she went directly to the fridge. "What's all this? Where's the beer?"

"It's cheeky chicken, Uriel doesn't drink alcohol." Medusa shrugged.

"I don't think you came all the way here just to ransack my fridge..." Uriel said as he walked in.

"You know why I'm here, the Fallen corp. is nipping at our heels. We can't keep doing this all by ourself and need you to step up."

"I quit, I'm not even a hunter anymore. Why don't you go bother someone else?"

"Uhm, I came here to..."

"No, I won't give you a doll. I don't have the money for one anyways." Uriel cut Luna short who kept her usual blank expression on her face and no one could have guessed how upset she was by Uriel's refusal, if not for her gaze immediately dropping to the floor.

"You can't do this forever, the Dungeon Raiders company needs you! We need you, I need you..." Nika began shouting, but her voice became softer as she spoke.

"You have no idea what I went through, I'm done with this, I'm done with all this!" Uriel then fell silent and so did the rest of his friends.

"Of course we don't!" Luna cried, her face crumbling like a house of cards.

It had been a few months since they came back from Easter Island, but in all that time he refused to speak of the events that transpired inside the dungeon. The reason for that wasn't just how traumatic they had been, but also because the aftermath of those events still affected him.

When Sam took Water warlock with him and left Uriel stranded on the rock formation in the middle of the dungeon, the first thought that came to Uriel's mind was that he would eventually come back. Although they had just fought each other for the egg, he still considered Sam his chosen brother and patiently awaited for his return.

Only he did not show up. Minutes became hours and hours became days, but he still harbored a glint of hope in his heart and remained on the same place with a naive look on his face.

Being alone was harsh, especially now that he recovered his emotions. Uriel was forced to face the vile acts he performed while under the veiled influence of an ancient being's emotions and something broke inside him.

He didn't want to speak about it, not to his girlfriend, not to his friends. He wanted to shove all the memories of what happened in that cursed place forever, but among those memories, the one he truly didn't want to speak of was of Sam.

Nevertheless, now that Luna was on the verge of transforming into a werewolf, Uriel was left with no choice but to open up about what happened in the belly of the world.

"Do you really want to hear what happened? Because if you do, you might not want to see me ever again." Uriel said with a crooked smile.

"Uriel, we're here for you." Nika said as she took his hand.

"I promise that no matter what happened to you, I'll still love you." Medusa added.

"I'm afraid it's not that simple... it's not what happened to me that haunts me, it's what I did."
