Chapter 530: 4th Stage Void Refinement
--
Cedric rushed to the sealed gaps in a solemn manner. Each step he took displayed his skill at using concept laws, especially space laws. His appearing at one place and reappearing thousands of miles away from the previous one.
He inspected the seals he placed near the northwestern camp one by one. He did his best to analyze every detail he could get from them, even though there's not much in there.
After inspecting at least ten of the sealed holes on the wall, Cedric allowed himself to relax.
'Should be a false alarm...' he muttered inwardly, 'The Void's movement must've been turbulent but only in some areas. The possibility of another invasion is very unlikely.'
When Cedric sealed the gates leading to the void as well as the holes in the Scarlet Division Wall, he left a contingency in them within his abilities. These contingencies include a minimal scanning capability that would record the density of the void on the other side for his perusal.
Sadly, as the creator of these seals, Cedric knew that he was already pushing his luck. He knew that this recording function was barely working. The main function of the seal takes priority, not this, so there is a high chance that the recording function might not be accurate.
Besides, Cedric knew just how unpredictable the void could be. Even before the Void Prince's birth, with the equipment of the Border Patrol Guardians still capable of measuring the void levels out there, the data can only be said to be roughly accurate. And since Cedric hasn't spent enough time in the camp to learn how to create that kind of technology and how unpredictable the void has become since the Void Prince's birth, Cedric obviously could only do things that were within his scope.
Still, his analysis shouldn't be wrong. There should be no threat of invasions for now. Even though the data he collected so far might be inaccurate, it shouldn't be too far from what's actually happening on the other side. Cedric's analytic mind was enough to bridge the gap caused by the inaccuracy.
'Okay, that's good. It's just the void being itself. No need to cause a ruckus about it.' Cedric sighed inwardly.
Still, he wasn't completely relieved. So long as the Void Prince and the Void itself continues to show restraint, he wouldn't be a peace. Because the more they show characteristics of endurance, the more frightening they become in Cedric's eyes.

Despite his worries, though, Cedric did his best to set it aside for now...
He knew that whether the Void Prince was planning something big or not, he should make use of the time they've been given to be as prepared as they can be, and that's precisely what Cedric was doing right now.
Cedric has already picked a place where he could absorb void energy for his breakthrough. He had already settled the area, making sure to minimize any form of accidents he could foresee. Only then did he begin his breakthrough.
Unlike those who followed the normal path of life evolution, Cedric didn't have to bother using the Cosmic Refinement Spell to continuously elevate his state of being. All he really needed was to absorb and refine more Void Energy to expand his Inner World.
Cedric needed a lot because, from 999 miles, he assumed that his Inner World's expansion would extend up to 9,999 miles this time around.
To minimize the time he needed for this breakthrough, Cedric intentionally picked a spot where the void levels were turbulent. Upon peeling off the seal just a little bit, the amount of void energy leakage will be greater compared to other spots, and the faster he could absorb the appropriate amount for his breakthrough.
Cedric was, of course, very careful about this. He made sure that the creatures on the other side wouldn't suspect what's happening or discover what he's doing. He didn't plan on revealing himself anytime soon, after all. He also made sure that there were no other creatures near him who would see and possibly document what he's doing because, once again, he's one of the Border Patrol Office's best-kept secrets for now.
Sure, Cedric could've played it safe. He could've waited until at least one of the many Paragons or any of the Chancellors to escort him just in case. He could've also picked a safer spot. His breakthrough would've needed a longer time, but at least it'd be safer.
Alas, longer doesn't necessarily mean better.
Besides, Cedric can't afford to be on leave for a long time. At most, he should return after a month and no more. The Border Patrol Office needs his help, so he can't leave for too long.
With all of this in mind, he decided to make his breakthrough here. And once his preparations were made, he didn't hesitate to begin.
All of a sudden, the void energy that has been leaking from the seal funneled on top of his head. Cedric was akin to a whale inhaling air, only in this case, he's inhaling void energy, a substance that is extremely harmful to living beings.
Obviously, Cedric has gone past the point of needing protection against it. Cedric's entire being already developed some level of immunity against this harmful substance. He wouldn't be refining the hell out of it if he didn't.
The speed at which he refined the void was astonishing. Through his past experiences, he had already mastered how to erase the imprint of the void's main consciousness to make it ownerless and safe for his use. His skill is already at an instinctual level at this point.
As his breakthrough began, the expansion of his Inner World also started. It very quickly broke through the 999-mile limit and reached more than a thousand miles in diameter, and it's not showing signs of slowing down either.
The flow of the leak was just enough for Cedric's absorption rate. At some point, Cedric was already absorbing and refining the void energy that leaked out of the seal before it could even accumulate in his surroundings.
As Cedric's Inner World expanded, he noticed that the threads of colors representing the embryo of concept laws were vibrating in activity as his breakthrough happened.
They moved restlessly around the sea of dark golden fog. They're like tadpoles who sensed their pond being disturbed by something. They held curiosity towards the neutralized void mixing up with their home but didn't dare to get close.
At the same time as his breakthrough, the neutralized void was being refined and converted into Chaos Energy as well. Even though it's slow for now, that's only because Cedric's main priority was his breakthrough. After this, the process of conversion should become faster.
Time passed just like this, and soon, about a week passed since he started.
Cedric released a breath of turbid air and sighed in relief. He opened his eyes and revealed the shining pair of brilliant golden eyes brimming with vigor and power.
Restraining his aura, Cedric waved his hand and reapplied the seal on the gap he used. He also ensured that there are no mistakes in this process because that would be disastrous.
After that, Cedric closed his eyes and allowed his body to adjust and relax. Because although he has already mastered the way to refine the void, it's still mentally taxing to do, especially considering that he had to spend an entire week just to complete it. Still, this was a resounding success. Had Cedric chosen the safer route, he figured that it would've taken him way longer.
Feeling the surge of strength thrumming beneath his skin, Cedric suppressed the impulse to test his strength. He didn't want to cause a commotion here or leave any clues. It would be better if nobody knew he was here to begin with.
Glancing at his Inner World, which is now mostly dominated by unrefined but neutralized void energy, he knew that his assumptions were right on.
The 4th stage of Void Refinement takes the size of his Inner World to 9,999 miles, and the trend of '9's would continue to go from here. Next, at the 5th stage of Void Refinement, his Inner World would span 99,999 miles.
Cedric decided to set aside that thought for now before it gives him a headache. For now, he's in a jolly mood because his breakthrough succeeded without a hitch. However, as much as he'd like to immerse himself in this success, Cedric had to return to the camp for now.
After his breakthrough, Cedric's might went up a level, but not at the same rate as those who are following the common Life Evolution Path.
Even at the 4th state of Void Refinement Realm, Cedric had the confidence to daw even with experts at their 6th to 7th Transition. And if he wanted to flee, only a handful of the cosmic-level experts could keep him.
Cedric didn't grow arrogant because of that. He remained low-profile for the sake of the future.
Unknown to him, his breakthrough wasn't the only celebratory incident today. Because back at the camp, precisely at the place where the Ancient Chaos Alpha participants were practicing, somebody has already passed the 2nd step.
What do you think?
