Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Hunting with Captain Xiao Ni (1)

“Holy crap, what kind of message is this?”

“Did you all get it?”

“Ye Nai is going back to get married?”

“Hey, hey, hey, dont exaggerate the message; it only mentioned her family has such plans, don’t just jump to Ye Nai quitting her job and getting married tomorrow.”

“What? Ye Nai is going back home to get married? When did this happen? Why didnt she say anything during dinner?” Brother Peng leaned over and looked at everyone’s phones.

“Go away, Brother Peng, stop causing trouble.”

...

“Seriously, all of you, eyes on your feet, can’t even read a message properly. Regimental Command Pan wants us to drag Ye Nai into tasks, don’t let her have a chance to go home for matchmaking and marriage.” Sister Da Ma had understood the message clearly.

“Hold on, hold on, Im replying right now, lets get this clear first.” Captain Xiao Ni was typing away furiously.

Regimental Command Pan got the message, thought about it, and felt it wasnt right to go into detail about Ye Nai’s family situation with them, so he only replied with one sentence.

Captain Xiao Ni looked at her phone and read out each word deliberately.

“Regimental Command Pan replied, saying that Ye Nai comes from a family with many children, is the elder sister who is the main support of her family, and she has a collective resident registration.”

“Ox and Horse Sister, got it.” Sister Da Ma, being a woman too, understood instantly, “Dont worry, Ill make sure Ye Nai has no time to go home for the New Year.”

“You guys can’t just decide on your own. Who knows what Ye Nai is really thinking?” Brother Peng added wine to their cups, looking forward to some gossip.

“No worries, Ye Nai definitely isnt thinking about matchmaking or getting married, not at her age at least,” Sister Da Ma spoke with authority, “An elder sister from a large family typically ends up in one of two extremes: either becoming the financial support of her parents and siblings or running far away and never looking back. Ye Nai is definitely the latter.”

“I think so too. When we took her on tasks, even during hours-long car rides, she wouldnt say a word, just nibble on some jerky, with a detective series playing on her phone, not making a sound, so quiet that I thought she slept all the way, but she was actually awake.” Captain Niu, who had worked with her when they went to Anyuan City’s large warehouse to collect supplies, had too much to say.

“Right, Old Cao and Meimei also said that Ye Nai is very quiet and easy to work with on tasks.”

“Then let’s not talk anymore, let’s take her hunting. It’s just in time for New Year, we need to stock up on some fresh meat, and her shooting skills are not bad either.” Captain Xiao Ni, who couldn’t be screamed at by surname, shook her phone, “I’ve already messaged her, and she agreed.”

“Damn, you are always so quick!” Old Niu and Sister Da Ma lunged towards Captain Xiao Ni, giving him a loving hug from comrades.

Brother Peng swiftly grabbed his bottle and glass, drinking while cheering on the three of them.

Ye Nai, who was running level-up missions in the newbie village, received the message from Captain Xiao Ni, asking if she wanted to join his team for hunting.

She immediately replied with a yes.

Hunting, of course, she would go. She was fed up with doing the same old wielding warehouse tasks.

After playing for another two hours, the newbie gamer finally left the newbie village, then Ye Nai shut down her computer, went shopping, bought a few commercial large pots, and also purchased several new water buckets from the water station.

She wasn’t lacking personal hygiene products. After so many missions, she stockpiled various disposable items by the box, she could open a small shop with the inventory in her Space.

Captain Xiao Ni gave one day off for rest, so the next day Ye Nai stewed mutant beast meat at home all day, the oven worked nonstop, trays of dried meat were cooled and packed, she even bought quite a few specialty dishes from Brother Peng, and promised to bring him fresh meat when she returned from this trip.

In the evening, Ye Nai met up with Captain Xiao Nis team, and incidentally sprinkled them with superpower spores, allowing the fungus to grow inside their bodies, providing some protection, and allowing her to keep track of the fungus locations, just in case they got separated during the hunt.

The logistics team issued a walkie-talkie to each person, handed over the freshly bought fast food to Ye Nai, along with a pile of firearms and ammunition.

After a short rest, they departed in the middle of the night, taking more than two hours to reach Secret Realm No.1 Town. They entered the Secret Realm, with a 12-hour time difference inside, it was just past two in the afternoon.

They had been running on the highway for over two hours and exited after 5 p.m. They raced through the wilderness and didn’t stop to camp until it was dark.

The ground was covered with wild grass tall enough to hide a car, and if a person stood on the ground, the grass would block the view of anyone nearby.

Ye Nai pulled a scythe from her space. She had bought it a long time ago, and finally, it was of some use.

Just as she was preparing to show off her skills, she saw the wild grass around her collapsing in patches. Then the soil churned as if an invisible plough was rolling the grass into the earth.

In the blink of an eye, a large area suitable for camping was cleared, obviously the work of teammates skilled in earth and wood elements.

Ye Nai, holding the scythe, didn’t even get to strike once and found herself with nothing to do.

She immediately acted as if nothing had happened, put away the scythe, and scattered a vast amount of superpower spores, building a fungal defense perimeter around the camp to prevent mutant plants and mutant beasts from disturbing them at night.

At mealtime, Ye Nai directly laid out fresh fast food from her space. Each person took a serving, and she then took out her large soup pot, cooking mutant beast stewed meat that had been simmered until tender and fragrantly irresistible—everyone enjoyed a generous scoop, eating blissfully.

“Wow, this mutant beast meat is so delicious.”

“Xiao Yezi’s cooking skills are really impressive.”

“I think I got a bite of premium quality, it’s especially full of energy.”

“You too? I got several bites like that, thought I was imagining it.”

“I mixed various types of mutant beast meat to make this big pot; otherwise, I couldn’t have gathered enough.”

With so much mutant beast clean meat at hand and unable to distinguish which type belonged to which beast, Ye Nai had randomly selected some pieces to stew in this pot, making any taste normal.

“Then that’s even more impressive. Different meats require different cooking times and seasonings. The fact this pot turned out so delicious, Xiao Yezi, you could be like Brother Peng someday.”

“Yeah, if I get too tired, I’ll just open a restaurant,” Ye Nai said, nodding as she held her bowl and ate.

After a hearty meal and a good night’s sleep, none of the watchstanders noticed any disturbances. They broke camp before dawn and continued driving, with those who had been on watch resting in the vehicle while others ate dry foods for breakfast on the go.

Ye Nai noticed that after daylight, her phone had lost its signal.

This meant they had completely ventured into an area far from human civilization. In case of danger, it would be impossible to call for help; fortunately, she had the foresight to sprinkle spores on the entire team.

She sat in the back seat of Captain Xiao Ni’s leading vehicle, and through the rearview mirror, Xiao Ni could clearly see Ye Nai daydreaming.

“Ye Nai, what are you thinking about?”

“Keep an eye on the signals operator,” she said.

“Huh?”

“My phone lost its signal. Does the signals operator have a radio with him?”

“Yes, he does.”

With an incredulous expression, Captain Xiao Ni said nothing while the other team members in the car couldn’t help but laugh.

Ye Nai felt relieved.

The team had been running for a day, and although Ye Nai didn’t know the route, she saw a hand-drawn map on the central control panel, and Xiao Ni, sitting in the co-driver’s seat, held the compass responsible for guiding the direction.
