Chapter 87 The Giant Toad Skin is Really Tough
"This is indeed a solution, but we don’t have any decent cobblers locally, so we either buy ready-made ones from the Awakener or ask a cobbler to customize them."
"If we’re going for customized shoes, then I’d like to have my own shoe last made first. Generic lasts just don’t fit as well. I just don’t know where to find someone for that."
"You’ve reminded me, we should go together to Town No. 1 some day and ask around; there are many artisans there."
"Are there a lot of craftsmen in that place?"
"Yes, although not as many as in those cities packed with craftsmen, but not everyone likes big cities, you know? The competition is fiercer there. It’s better to be the head of a chicken than the tail of a phoenix. Starting a business in Town No. 1 may not bring in big deals, but small trades are enough for a comfortable life."
"That makes sense. Let’s take a trip there someday."
"No rush. I’ll ask around first to see if there’s a skilled one. Wait for my message."
"Okay."
Ye Nai closed the chat window with Sister Da Ma and ordered a bunch of BBQ through Brother Peng, then had someone run errands to pick it up for her before she logged into the online game to play while waiting.
When the BBQ arrived, she exited the game, picked a movie, opened a bottle of beer, and ate while watching.
At this time, Sister Da Ma also contacted the whole team to inquire whether they wanted to find new material to customize new boots.
Speaking of hide, that giant frog was still in the Space and hadn’t been handed over; it was the perfect opportunity to test the durability of its skin.
The next morning, Sister Da Ma and her team took Ye Nai to the military camp’s slaughterhouse specially designed for slaughtering mutant beasts.
They could slaughter their complete hunting trophies there, removing the hide and meat, and all the stripped waste was packed together.
The giant frog was a new species, and the slaughterhouse had equipment to test on the spot how much of its meat was edible.
A Gold Element team member acted as the butcher, dressed in protective clothing, wearing a transparent face shield, covered from head to toe.
A variety of knives and axes were laid out on a table – everything from civilian models bought off the street to special ones designed for Superpower Users. They tested one by one, along with the team members’ own golden blades, to see which could cut through the skin of the giant frog, and that would give them an idea of its toughness.
They tried cutting the head, back, limbs, and abdomen in turns. After more than two hours of testing, all the weapons they brought were tried, and not even a small incision was made.
"Damn, is this hide really that tough? Not even wild boar hide is this durable."
Not just the onlooking team members, but everyone nearby with time to spare came to watch, crowding around so much that it was three layers deep. Some even offered their personal weapons, to no avail.
"This giant frog is tough to kill. Sniper bullets just bounce off its body, and it only died when hit in the eye."
"Wasn’t it bombarded directly?"
"Our team members used their superpower to hold it in place up close. Otherwise, the sniper wouldn’t have had a chance."
"Should we just let the Gold Element team member give it a try? See how much force it takes to cut through the hide?"
A big crowd was discussing all at once, and the team member decided to follow everyone’s advice, standing in front of the giant frog’s belly, channeling superpower, and a sharp, cone-shaped golden blade formed in their palm. Then, the golden cone was stabbed forcefully into the belly of the giant frog. It was clear to see the impacted area sagging inwards, forming a small pit, but it did not penetrate.
The team member kept applying force, almost lying on the giant frog’s belly, and after several minutes in this deadlock, there was finally a "plop" sound – the skin of the giant frog was pierced at last.
At the same time as it was penetrated, a huge hissing sound erupted from within the giant frog, and the Gold Element team member, feeling that something was wrong, tried to pull back, but it was too late. The small hole suddenly burst open and a pile of stinking innards exploded out, burying them.

Accompanying the commotion, a foul stench spread outwards, hitting the onlookers straight on.
Many in the crowd weren’t wearing masks, having come just to see the spectacle of a newly captured species at the slaughterhouse. They were caught off-guard by the unbearable stench that one couldn’t wash off for three years. Those standing far away quickly ran, while those up close doubled over, violently throwing up on the spot.
The scene was in complete disarray.
Ye Nai managed to dodge it in time, though.
She didn’t just run off; she also grabbed Sister Da Ma on her left and a teammate on her right to flee with her.
Having run a distance, they still couldn’t help retching when the odor carried on the wind reached them. Ye Nai handed out one of the filtration masks she wore for moving trash to each of them, which slightly alleviated their discomfort.
"Oh my, Xiao Yezi, good thing you’re quick on your feet."
"I just realized that since the giant frog had been stored in the logistic space for so many days, its belly must have started to rot."
"Ugh, indeed, I’m out of it. Such a simple matter slipped my mind. From now on, we’ll keep all the fresh stuff in your space."
"Okay."
"At least it wasn’t for nothing, we’ve tested that the giant toad skin is the toughest we’ve encountered so far." Another teammate looked sympathetically at their comrades escaping in all directions.
"True, but we won’t be getting the skins to make boots," lamented Sister Da Ma slightly. Valuable new materials had to be handed over.
"No worries, the water snakes can’t stay too far from water. Next time we go, we’ll bring more individual cannons and bombard them from a distance. We won’t engage in close combat, and with the giant frog’s tongue strength, it could pull a tractor. It could easily wrap around a person, and you wouldn’t be able to save them."
"With these giant frogs, requesting heavier weapons wouldn’t be difficult."
"How heavy can we request? The kind that plows the land with multiple barrels?"
"Don’t say that, this giant toad skin is obviously high in value. If we want more, we must bring the heavy artillery. I’ll definitely call you when the time comes."
"No problem~" Ye thought, then added, "And if there are tracked vehicles, bring a few more."
Sister Da Ma gave an OK sign.
"Right, speaking of fresh items, do you still want these?"
Ye Nai pulled out a large nest of bird eggs with various patterns from her space.
"Wow, so many? You’re quite the adventurer, putting out octagonal traps, and even collecting bird eggs?" Sister Da Ma quickly took them with utmost care.
"Just curious. It’s this season and birds are laying eggs with different colors and patterns. Clearly, they’re from different species but share the same habits. I wanted to see if there are other commonalities. Are they like chicken or duck eggs? I wonder if these eggs have good nutritional value and if they’re worth breeding economically?"
"We had the same thought when collecting the eggs."
Ye Nai’s eyes crinkled with a smile. She was looking forward to the good news, and if it came, she would immediately start raising those water birds.
A vast wetland stretching as far as the eye could see. Fencing it off to create a farm could be so profitable.
As the three of them dreamed about profiting from those water birds, over by the slaughter platform, their teammates were shouting loudly for help to dig people out from under the pile of giant frog innards. If they kept being buried, they’d suffocate.
Hearing the shouts, Ye Nai and her two companions hurried over to lend a hand.
