Chapter 32: Yang Fan and Lin Hai Tear Their Faces Apart!
Lin Hai was furious. He slammed the file in his hand onto the desk with a heavy thud, clearly showing that he was angry and expecting someone to calm him down.
You know, in the past, whenever Lin Hai acted like this, there would be a bunch of sycophants rushing over to placate him.
But now, if anyone dared get close to Lin Hai, they were essentially declaring war on Yang Fan.
Who wouldn’t want to secure their future?
Besides, Lin Hai wasn’t exactly a person of great character. Over the years, he hadn’t made many reliable friends.
Then, a very ridiculous scene unfolded.
The people in the meeting room either stared at the ceiling, looked at the floor, examined their documents, or whispered among themselves—basically, no one paid attention to Lin Hai.
But all their gazes subtly seemed to converge on him. In fact, most of them had a faint smile on their lips.
This only added more fuel to the fire.
Yang Fan pretended to be innocent and looked at Lin Hai. “Mr. Lin Hai, it seems like your seat isn’t that comfortable. How about we swap places?”
“My seat’s just fine. This chair is really soft. Why don’t you come sit here and try?” Yang Fan teased, grinning.
It was common knowledge that, during meetings, the seating arrangement had a certain hierarchy.
Even though Yang Fan was now famous, he had been on business trips for quite a while, so his seat had never been changed.
Lin Hai, as the pillar of the station, had a seat that was second only to the director.
Yang Fan’s original seat was at the outer edge, a position that didn’t stand out much.
What could you expect? His ratings had been bad back then, so he couldn’t get a better spot.
Now, Lin Hai was digging his own grave, and Yang Fan didn’t mind using this opportunity to climb up the ranks. He immediately pointed out to the director that it was time for a seat change!
How could the host of the prime-time show sit in such a far-out seat?
The director was momentarily stunned before she slapped her forehead in frustration. “How could I forget? Yang Fan’s right. We should switch seats. How could the host of the prime-time show be seated so far back?”
“It’s our senior staff who are aware of these things, reminding me in this way. My mistake, my mistake. Yang Fan, what are you standing there for? Don’t you want to thank Mr. Lin Hai?”
Yang Fan grinned and wheeled his chair over. “Thank you, Mr. Lin Hai. This chair is really comfortable, top quality. Why don’t you try sitting here?”
Lin Hai was fuming now. He stood up abruptly and snapped, “Yang Fan, who the hell do you think you are, talking to me like that? When I first joined the station, you didn’t even know what playing with mud was!”
“You’re just lucky to have interviewed a few big stars, and now you think you’re all that? Is this small achievement enough to make you act all high and mighty?”
“Haha, the youth of today are really laughable!”
“Yang Fan, you’re still too young. Just because you’ve interviewed some people, doesn’t mean you have any real skill. Paparazzi are much better than you. There’s no celebrity they can’t photograph.”
“But they’re still just paparazzi, they’ll never be in the spotlight!”
“Yang Fan, with your little tricks, you think you can challenge me? Dream on!”
“The reason a host is called a host is because they can host shows and generate high ratings. As for you, the best you can hope for is to be a good reporter. With the ratings of your radio show, do you even deserve to call yourself a host?”
Lin Hai was completely enraged and directly confronted Yang Fan in the meeting room.
The people in the room were too scared to even breathe.
Even employees from other departments were drawn over by the noise from this confrontation.
Wait… these two are clashing already? Isn’t this too fast?
Yang Fan had just returned from a business trip, and now they’re already at each other’s throats?
And Lin Hai… isn’t he being too harsh?
Lin Hai’s words today were a total declaration of war on Yang Fan. From now on, whenever they meet, there’s no need for pretense.
Yang Fan hadn’t expected Lin Hai to lose his temper so quickly. He was just provoking him a little, but Lin Hai had exploded.
“This guy really can’t hold back at his age?”
Yang Fan was slightly speechless, but also angry.
“Mr. Lin Hai, whether or not I deserve to be a host, that’s not for you to decide. What I know is, right now, I’m the host of the prime-time show that the station has chosen! And you’ve been pushed aside by me!”
That simple sentence made Lin Hai’s face flush with anger.
“If I’m not fit to be the host, then why did the station schedule my show during prime time?”
“Do you really think you’re better than the director, the station chief, and all the leadership?”
“If you’re so great, why is it that, after all these years in the station, you’re still just a small-time host?”
Lin Hai clenched his fists tightly, trembling with rage as he said, “Do you think hosting a prime-time show is that easy? That’s the face of the station. If your ratings don’t go up, they’ll soon bring me back to handle things.”
“Yang Fan, you won’t be proud for long!” Lin Hai said with firm conviction.
As he said this, the whispers in the meeting room among other employees gradually grew louder.
“Not to say it, but it’s actually not impossible.”
“Yang Fan’s talk show had low ratings before, but it wasn’t at rock bottom!”
“But when Yang Fan was away, and the temporary host Hao Yue was in charge, the ratings completely crashed.”
“That’s right. Even though Yang Fan’s back now, with the schedule change, most of the loyal listeners he had are already gone, thanks to Hao Yue’s damage.”
“Now with the schedule change, even fewer listeners have stuck around. There’s hardly anyone left.”
“Although Yang Fan’s now in prime time, he’s almost starting from scratch.”
“A show starting from zero—can he really build up the ratings bit by bit? It’s not going to be easy.”
“Plus, Yang Fan’s new slot is taking listeners from Lin Hai’s hotline program. These two groups of listeners? Do you really think they can get along?”
“Lin Hai’s been hosting the hotline for so many years, his audience is intensely loyal. Yang Fan’s ratings after the switch? That’s really iffy.”
“If we analyze it like this, is the schedule change really a blessing or a curse for Yang Fan?”
“Ah, what do you think? If the ratings for Yang Fan’s prime-time talk show plummet, do you think he can keep the prime-time slot?”
“Well… that’s hard to say…”
What do you think?
