Exorcist's Self-Cultivation

Chapter 354: 351. Ryan's Self-Cultivation

Chapter 354: 351. Ryan’s Self-Cultivation

Swish…

The light grew dimmer as it sank to the bottom of the lake.

When a speck of light appeared,

The scene before me changed dramatically.

A strange smell wafted in the air, a mix of formalin and disinfectant.

This was an autopsy room with no doors or windows.

...

Only the incandescent light overhead illuminated the room’s interior.

Du Wei looked emotionless at the industrial autopsy table before him, on which lay a body covered tightly with a white cloth.

On a side table lay many autopsy tools.

Behind the tool table was a chair meant for resting.

“Subconscious dreams,”

His tone was very complex.@@novelbin@@

But his eyes remained unchanged.

What revealed itself from deep within was numbness and serenity, different from the extreme rationality and calm brought on by Evil Spirit Transformation.

Now it came from his heart.

The him in the Lake of Souls, although indeed real, was also a dream belonging to a deeper level of dreams.

Closing his eyes and sinking to the bottom of the lake was akin to entering into even deeper layers of dreams.

From a psychological standpoint, he was now in a subconscious dream.

Everyone dreams, and upon waking, the dreams vanish.

But subconscious dreams are continuous; if one day these dreams end, there’s only one reason—this person’s life has come to an end.

Subconscious dreams are unconscious.

They are unaffected by human will—they are a true reflection of a person’s inner self.

Regarding Du Wei, the dream he was now in was his innermost secret, one that even he himself was unaware of.

He remembered clearly, in his junior year of college, on February 16th, he came to the autopsy room for practice as usual, because since childhood, his parents had passed away, and he had to rely on himself.

But his childhood experiences made him somewhat aloof, so he chose forensic medicine.

What he didn’t expect…

On that day, when he pulled back the white cloth covering the body, he saw his own father.

Fate played a cruel joke on him.

From then on, Du Wei’s life took a turn.

The autopsy room was where his fate changed and where he was most familiar.

In his subconscious, he never forgot.

No doors, no windows.

It meant he didn’t want to share this past with anyone.

Indeed…

Apart from Evil Spirit Du Wei, not even his girlfriend Alex, his best friend Tom, or Father Tony knew.

Du Wei pulled out the chair and sat quietly upon it.

He did not focus on the body, but looked at his own hands instead.

Time ticked away, silently slipping by.

After a while…

Du Wei finally spoke, his voice hoarse, “If you were still alive, you would definitely want me to live a better life.”

“I remember every single experience from my childhood to adulthood.”

“So I won’t let you down.”

“So the body under this white cloth is actually me.”

Here, he didn’t need any facade, nor did he need to maintain calm and rationality.

But ironically, the most real version of himself was a composite of rationality and calm.

People are influenced by external factors, accepting information, and thus forming a complete set of values.

Some people are very dissatisfied with how they’ve turned out, tormented by their inner struggles.

But some people face it calmly.

Du Wei belonged to the latter, so he wouldn’t deny himself.

So he stood up and pulled away the white cloth covering the corpse.

There was nothing…

But the answer had already become very clear.

Du Wei took a deep breath, and his entire being entered into the Evil Spirit Transformation.

The pattern of a pointer on his Right Hand glowed hot.

He activated the power of the Mark.

Suddenly, the sound of a piano began to echo throughout the dissection room…

Lullaby played automatically.

A mist appeared out of nowhere, and within it, the outline of a piano became faintly visible, along with Freddy being passively played while sitting in a chair.

What was last marked often appears first.

Suddenly…

There came the somewhat terrified voice of Freddy: “Damn it, how did I see you, the devil, again?”

It stuck its head out of the fog, staring at Du Wei in disbelief.

That scarred face, full of burn marks, was twisted beyond recognition.

It couldn’t be considered an Evil Spirit but a product in between human and Evil Spirit, which is why it had consciousness and the ability to speak.

Du Wei looked at it and calmly said, “I should have told you that you can’t get rid of me, I will be your nightmare.”

Freddy let out a ferocious howl: “I will kill you, I swear, I definitely will!”

Du Wei remained calm: “Don’t worry, I will give you a chance in the future.”

Freddy became even more unhinged: “You devil, do you think I would believe you? You’re just an outright fraud.”

Having said that, Freddy froze, uttering in disbelief: “Is this… Is this your dream?”

Du Wei nodded, and just as he was about to reply, suddenly his mobile phone rang.

The atmosphere turned very awkward.

Freddy’s expression changed: “A phone call? You’re lying to me again, this is reality, isn’t it? You brought me into reality, you want to kill me in reality.”

Du Wei ignored it, took out his phone to look, and saw that the caller ID was the same number that Doctor Ryan had used to call him before.

Without pressing the connect button, Ryan’s voice automatically came through the phone: “Director, it’s bad, James’ condition has worsened, the lunatic is imitating you, and he’s doing it so convincingly that he almost fooled me.”

“I, Ryan, cannot tolerate this, I must cure his illness.”

“Director, what medication do you usually prescribe for patients? Is there something potent? I’ll give James more, to help him regain his senses faster.”

“Otherwise, I’m really scared right now, I feel like I’m going to be assimilated by these lunatics.”

Hearing this, Du Wei’s eyes turned slightly cold.

He had never forgotten James’ existence. During his time in St. Bodia, he wanted to find James and figure out how to solve the problem James carried.

His former companion had become an extension of the will of Evil Spirit Du Wei.

But before he had a chance to act, James had joined the Dusk Bell.

“Ryan, are you sure he’s really imitating me?”

“Yes, Director, this nutcase is imitating you, I was so mad I skipped dinner!”

Du Wei spoke coldly, “How much does he resemble me now?”

Ryan hesitated, “Maybe… seventy or eighty percent similar. His demeanor isn’t quite like yours, but I feel like he’s you. Except for his face and build not being as excellent as yours, it’s almost spot-on.”

“Right, I even saw him wearing colored contacts, his eye color is exactly like yours now.”

“He’s seriously sick.”

Du Wei said in a deep voice, “Ryan, I appreciate you telling me this. From now on, do not contact James anymore, stay as far away from him as possible, and leave the rest to me to handle.”

Ryan was baffled: “But Director, you haven’t told me what medication to give him yet?”

Du Wei glanced at Freddy in the mist. For some reason, its expression suddenly became fixed.

Quickly, Du Wei rushed to say to Ryan, “Doctor Ryan, this patient’s situation is very troublesome, beyond what you can handle. For your safety, from now on, take care of the other patients, you are not responsible for James anymore. Do you understand?”

Ryan uttered an “Oh” and said, “Then what medication should I give to the others?”

Du Wei casually replied, “Prescribe them whatever medication you think is suitable. You are now a qualified doctor, you shouldn’t need to ask me these things anymore.”

Ryan excitedly said, “That’s great, I can finally prescribe medication to people!”
