Chapter 412: 409. Long-Awaited Knock at the Door (Combined Chapters)

On the night of the 19th.

Outside Massas City.

Nearly a hundred men clad in priest’s attire gathered in front of the nearby birch forest.

They watched Deputy Chief Judge Du Wei with faces full of shame.

A few hours earlier, they had received a phone call, all of them on high alert.

The result was the discovery of many bodies outside Massas City.

...

Not just beneath withered trees, a pond, and under a house had all become places to hide corpses.

All were the Veda Sect’s handiwork.

The Church had been severely slapped in the face.

Under their very noses, so many bodies had been secretly hidden, and the perpetrators were clearly performing some kind of sinister ritual, attempting to cause chaos and release the strange beings that the Church in Massas City was desperately trying to keep contained.

As the guardians, they only realized the problem when their Deputy Chief Judge arrived…

Even more humiliating was that Du Wei made the discovery.

Not them.

Looking at the members of the church, Du Wei asked expressionlessly, “How many bodies have been found so far?”

Everyone looked at each other, all at a loss for words.

Finally, a young Exorcist clenched his teeth and said, “132 bodies, but there are definitely more.”

“Moreover, we’ve discovered the presence of Ghosts, the outskirts of Massas City are no longer safe.”

Du Wei glanced at the man and said coolly, “Not just Ghosts, within this birch forest, Evil Spirits have likely been spawned already, the Veda Sect is quite adept at this.”

The Veda Sect is a thorough Cult.

Its modus operandi is distinct from both the Church and the Dusk Bell Church.

They choose to study Evil Spirits, to create them.

If it were not for their excessively brutal acts, and the fact that they are all lunatics, they might be considered scientists of the new era.

“Deputy Chief Judge, what should we do now?”

The one speaking was still that young Exorcist, his face displaying unease, clearly worried about the situation.

At the same time, he was also concerned about the punishment the Church might mete out due to their negligence.

Du Wei said blandly, “I have already contacted the Church, they will send someone specifically responsible for this matter over, but until then, you need to properly defend Massas City.”

“Us? What about you?”

Du Wei replied, “I’m going to search for those in the Veda Sect who are lurking in the shadows, but before I leave, there is something I want you to do.”

“Please give your order.”

“Report to the officials and seal off the birch forest near Massas City, be prepared to start a fire if necessary.”

After speaking with those people, Du Wei left on his own.

The Church had actually instructed him to stay in Massas City, to prevent the Veda Sect from noticing and releasing the entity inside.

But Du Wei did not plan to do so.

Because the Church was already preparing for a night raid against the Veda Sect.

They dispatched two Hunters, along with other Exorcists and ordinary believers to Europe, to attack the Veda Sect’s various strongholds there.

Included among them was Alvin Dowqui, who had met Du Wei once and asked him to convey to Dusk Bell that his death was imminent.

Moreover.

The Church also began searching for members of the Veda Sect in their stronghold cities, acting together with officials.

This was a modern-day assassination taking place beneath the cloak of night.

The spearhead was directed straight at the Veda Sect.

After all, it was modern times, and the Church couldn’t possibly start another Crusade.

Reality wouldn’t allow it.

Everything had to be done in secret.

Du Wei looked up at the night sky, dark and deep.

He suddenly had an illusion.

The darkness that he looked out into seemed tainted with the scent of blood.

“The Church will stir the forces of the Veda Sect.”

“Dusk Bell might also make a move.”

“And now, it’s the best time for me to head to Europe.”

“But before that, I need to ensure the safety of Massas City, even if it’s just temporary.”

Minella was a Cultist of the Veda Sect.

She had been with the Veda Sect for five or six years.

Such a long time was enough to twist a normal person’s psyche, making her mad, and even crueler.

Two months ago, Minella had penetrated deep into Massas City.

That experience was like a nightmare for her, as the Veda Sect wanted to study the Strangeness inside, and even make attempts to control them, to create them.

But the outcome was clearly a failure for the Veda Sect, and they suffered heavy losses.

Additionally, after being discovered by both the Church and Dusk Bell, the collision of the three powers caused the Veda Sect members to withdraw earlier.

However, Minella and others did not leave; instead, they received orders to stay hidden.

A few days ago, Minella waited for a group of Cultists to join her, and they also received the latest orders from the Veda Sect.

Their god, whom they worshipped, had finally responded, and was now at the European headquarters.

Yet their god wanted them to start on Massas City, to release the Strangeness within it.

That’s what led to the current situation.

“Be careful everyone, it seems the Church has discovered our arrangements, they might have realized the existence of those bodies,” Minella stood on the second floor of an abandoned house outside Massas City, looking at the specks of light at the edge of the distant birch forest.

Her intuition told her that those were the lights of the Church folks using flashlights to probe the secrets within the birch forest.

“They must have uncovered our plan and will soon come searching for us. There’s no time to delay, immediately notify everyone to get ready to enter the pre-dug underground tunnel.”

“We’re entering Massas City,” Minella turned her head and began instructing her subordinates.
