Extra's POV: My Obsessive Villainous Fiancee Is The Game's Final Boss

Chapter 31: Hooks Of Death

Ren instinctively reached for his coins as the energy slammed into him, feeling like hooks trying to dig beneath him.

Just before the energy sank into his skin and got to his soul, his coins flashed bright in his mind and he immediately pulled himself towards them.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, for him, he hadn’t dropped them behind and the coins were currently tucked away in his pocket. There was no place for him to go but where he already was.

Fuck!

But all hope wasn’t lost. He had no place t o go but that didn’t mean the coin wouldn’t be useful.

There was only one thing left for him to do. To blink.

He activated his teleportation and his body flickered in and out of existence. In that split second, the energy slid off him like water off oil, but the force of the energy still sent him staggering backward.

He regained his balance as the wave hit the edge of the training yard, crashing into the racks of weapons, dummies, and armor stands.

The moment it made contact, everything exploded.

The sheer force sent wood and metal flying, shattered pieces of debris raining down upon them. Ren barely had time to brace himself before he was knocked off his feet.

The heat came next.

The unnatural fire from the explosion spread rapidly, far too fast for something that had only just started. In seconds, flames had engulfed the far end of the training grounds, turning sparring dummies to cinders and twisting metal racks in the heat.

Lilith stood frozen, her crimson eyes wide with horror. "No— no, no, no," she whispered, hands trembling. "I didn’t mean to— I—"

Her breath hitched, panic rising as she stumbled back. The energy had drained from her body, leaving her weak, and she swayed unsteadily.

"Lilith!" Ren yelled, pulling her attention towards him as he staggered to his feet. "Stay with me."

She gasped, looking at him as if she had forgotten he was there. "I— It wasn’t supposed to—"

"We’ll fix this." He assured her, scanning the field. But then his eyes landed on something that sent ice through his veins.

Thorn.

He had been standing near the edge of the training grounds when the blast went off. Now, he was slumped against the stone wall, his body limp, his eyes shut.

Smoke curled around him from the scorched earth at his feet and his body had sustained damage with the smoldering remains of a sword sticking from his stomach.

"Damn it." Ren muttered under his breath. This was his fault. He should have shut the fight down the minute it began.

The flames around them roared, pulling him back to the present. It circled them, closing in. They had to get out before it reached them and time was running out.

He reached into his pocket, fingers grasping one of his coins. With a flick, he flung it outside the circle of fire.

Before Lilith could react, he stepped forward, scooping her into his arms in a bridal carry.

"Wha—" She gasped, startled as her body left the ground. But before she could say anything else, they vanished.

A blink later, they reappeared outside the reach of the fire.

Ren set Lilith down carefully, but she hardly noticed. Her entire body trembled, her breath coming in short gasps as she stared at the flames in shock.

The Underwood Knights arrived a second later, moving with the kind of efficiency that spoke of experience.

They worked to contain the fire, cutting off its fuel before it could spread to the estate itself. But as they rushed past Ren, none of them came close. Not with Lilith in his arms.

Ren barely spared them a glance. He knelt beside Thorn, pressing two fingers to his neck.

Still breathing.

But his injuries were bad. Even in the flickering light of the fire, Ren could see the unnatural angle of Thorn’s arm, the bruising already forming on his temple.

"We need a healer." Ren barked to the nearest Knight. "Now!"

The knight hesitated for only a second before nodding and sprinting off. Ren stayed by Thorn’s side, making sure his breathing, while weak, was even.

Lilith, still kneeling where he had set her down, had gone eerily quiet.

She stared at her hands as if they belonged to someone else. The confidence, the fire—everything that made her Lilith—had drained away, leaving only shock in its place.

She barely reacted when Lord Underwood arrived, his face unreadable as he took in the scene.

His gaze flickered from the burning training yard to Thorn’s battered form, then finally to Ren, who now had Lilith pressed against his chest, her small hands clutching onto his tunic as if afraid he would vanish.

A healer rushed in, going straight for Thorn.

Ren watched as the healer quickly placed a strip of bandage around Thorn’s head. The bandage began glowing a soft green and Thorn’s injuries began to slowly close and the healer worked on it, cleaning the wounds and removing any objects in it.

Ren sighed in relief. The healer was a Knight. Thorn would be fine.

"Come with me." Ren looked up as Lord Underwood walked towards them with a calm expression.

He hesitated for only a moment before nodding. He shifted, sweeping Lilith up in his arms as he stood.

Together, they left the wreckage behind.

Lilith didn’t say a word as Ren carried her through the halls of the estate.

She felt smaller in his arms than before, no longer the proud and defiant girl who had challenged him to a fight.

When they reached her chambers, the servants moved quickly to pull back the covers of her bed, but Lilith still clung to Ren, her body rigid. She wouldn’t let go.

Ren glanced at Lord Underwood, who nodded once.

Only then did Ren sit on the edge of the bed, lowering Lilith carefully. But her grip on his tunic only tightened. She buried her face against his chest, her breath shaky.

Ren exhaled, stroking her hair as the girl choked and began to cry.

"It’s okay, Lilith." Ren whispered as he watched her.

And that was what he did until she fell asleep.
