Chapter 94: 【94】First operation 3
Director Lv and Doctor Wang were taken aback for a moment, and the nurse was even more surprised.
The aseptic technique was too practiced, not matching up with the title of a medical student on her first day of internship.
“Could you please give me some saline and a syringe?” Xie Wanying asked the nurse.
Indeed, this new female intern was very polite, making a courteous request to the nurse. The nurse, in her early thirties, was pleased and poured saline into a sterile curved tray. Xie Wanying picked up a 2 ml syringe, removed the needle, pulled the plunger back, drew up saline using her mouth, then carefully dripped the saline onto the gauze on the patient’s forehead, all the while being careful not to let too much water run into the patient’s eyes and face.
The gentle dripping of saline did not cause the patient much pain, just a slight cool sensation. As the wound itself felt somewhat hot, the cool sensation was just right.
The reason the gauze would stick to the wound was that the blood, having soaked into it and then dried, caused the adhesion, and at this point, soaking it in saline or iodophor could facilitate its removal.
...
Medical students observing from the sidelines whispered among themselves:
“So that’s how it’s done, soaking with saline.”
This indicated that many medical students, new to clinical practice, didn’t understand this procedure.
Upon hearing this, Doctor Wang frowned: How did this female medical student already know? Wasn’t it her first day on duty with Huang Zhilei?
As Director Lv watched on, he looked over at Doctor Wang.
Doctor Wang shook his head to indicate confusion about the situation.
After soaking the gauze, the removal had to be quick, otherwise, it would stick again. Director Lv stepped forward, thinking that at this point the medical student would definitely mishandle things, as this action was much more difficult than soaking in saline, requiring higher proficiency. To his surprise, Xie Wanying didn’t wait for him to approach, and as soon as she saw the gauze loosen, she swiftly, with the speed of lightning, peeled the gauze off the patient’s forehead.
Director Lv stopped in his tracks, his eyes widening in surprise as he looked at her.
“Mom, does it hurt?” the young man asked his mother. @@novelbin@@
The middle-aged woman replied, “Not too much.”
As she said this, the female patient looked at Xie Wanying’s face with some amazement and asked Director Lv, “Is she your student?”
Director Lv found it hard to respond.
Thinking she was, the patient smiled, “The students of Director Lv are as impressive as Director Lv himself.”
Director Lv was even more at a loss for words and turned his head as if he hadn’t heard her, saying to the nurse, “Prepare the suture thread. Start with local anesthesia.”
“Lidocaine?” asked the nurse.
“Yes. Lidocaine doesn’t require a skin test,” Director Lv found his rhythm again in the conversation with the nurse, and said to the patient, “This wound is not deep, two stitches should suffice, don’t worry.”
“Xie Xie, Director Lv,” the female patient was glad to hear from the doctor that it wasn’t serious.
This time, Xie Wanying looked at the patient’s head and a three-dimensional image of the patient’s brain appeared in her mind, which seemed to have something inside. She said, “We need to do a head CT scan.”
At her words, the female patient and her young son were startled.
“What do you know!” Doctor Wang snapped back to reality, raising his voice at Xie Wanying.
Without Director Lv saying a word, a junior intern dared to make a medical diagnosis for the patient in front of the patient and the patient’s family, and additionally, had an opinion contrary to that of the Director. Did this intern have no regard for her future?
Doctor Wang’s voice when chiding her was very rough, as if billowing with intense anger.
Seeing this scene, the other medical students thought Xie Wanying would probably wish she could run away or find a hole to crawl into, as it seemed stupid of her to contradict her clinical teacher in front of the clinical teacher.
What do you think?
