Chapter 206: Batriders
Alex takes stock of his items and steps out of the shared house, looking at the beautiful village of Hogsmeade. He’s already excited and happy knowing he’ll be spending a long time here, wishing for a few days where he can just enjoy his surroundings.
I’ll do my best today so I can relax and enjoy this world tomorrow! First, do your work, Alex, then do the mundane, enjoyable stuff you’re longing for!
Rishi and Tereza arrive as well. Without hesitation, Tereza grabs both men by their hands, pulls them towards an open space, and transforms into her full bat form. Despite her transformation, she pulls out some sort of harness from her inventory and tosses it to Rishi.
Alex and Rishi stare at it, confused, until they realize Tereza is completely serious.
“It’s a nice idea… when did you think of it?” Alex asks.
Despite her monstrous form, Tereza shyly responds in a slightly menacing and deep voice, with the tiniest hint of cuteness, “I’ll do my part for the group… Also, I owe you, and I’m yours anyway. Consider me your ride. However, Rishi, you better make sure to sit on me respectfully—or I’ll drop you right into the Acromantula nest!” she warns immediately.
Scary shit. Also, that dude is the last man I’d expect to grope you! And you’re a friggin’ monstrous bat—larger than both of us and probably heavier too. I doubt he even wants to touch you… though, you are kinda fluffy.
“Of course, Tereza,” Rishi says, completely unbothered. He and Alex carefully secure the harness on her, adjusting it so both of them can lie on her back—though they have to squeeze tightly together to fit.
The moment they’re settled, Tereza launches into the sky, reminding Alex of that night in the real world when he had driven with her to a nearby forest.
I feel like a damn batrider! This is kinda cool! I just need torches and tar, and I could raze the damn village!
“This reminds me of the bat riders in Warcraft III. I love this,” Alex says, the wind rushing against his face, refreshing but not bothering him at all, thanks to his high PHY.
Rishi, looking calm but showing a hint of nervousness, says, “It’s fast and advantageous to move like this, but I am not enjoying this at all.”
Noticing Tereza speeding up, probably in response to Rishi’s comment, Alex quickly strokes her neck and says, “Please fly carefully, okay? No time for screwing around. According to the map, the Centaurs are probably on the opposite side of the forest from the Acromantulas. We can use Hagrid’s hut as a starting point. Also, make sure to fly high so we don’t get spotted by too many people.”
Tereza lets out a sweet purring noise and obeys, soaring higher into the sky toward Hagrid’s hut.
“Damn, you’re kinda cute in this form. Who would’ve thought?” Alex says, impressed by how useful her transformation is—especially with her warm, soft, fluffy fur.
As they approach Hagrid’s hut, the group notices a strong corruption spreading across parts of the forest, tainting the treetops, with specks of corrupted web scattered throughout.
The forest indeed looks sick and corrupted from above—you can’t see this if you stand on the ground!
“I say we don’t risk it and take the safe way. We might even find useful stuff along the way,” Alex suggests.
“The system is influencing the entire world. Just flying to the Centaur tribe and expecting not to run into some sort of protection is naive. Let’s land and continue on foot. You’re right, Alex,” Rishi says, fighting against the wind. He’s clearly uncomfortable riding on Tereza’s back but does his best to endure it.
Tereza lands and shifts back into her hybrid form, immediately looking at Rishi with a smirk. “You sure you’re not just afraid you can’t handle my wild flying style?” she teases.
Alex chimes in, “No need to risk it. Also, I want to hunt in the forest anyway. I want to kill different creatures if possible—every kill is a slight chance for my innate skill to activate.”
“Your skill is so random. If those three abilities of yours weren’t so useful, I’d call it worthless,” Tereza responds.
“Strong skills always have conditions that aren’t easy to fulfill. In Alex’s case, he has to kill strong enemies. Surely the activation chance is higher for those than for some random encounter,” Rishi muses.
“It’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’d be terrible if it activated randomly after killing some weak wolf—the ability would probably suck! I’d rather have quality over quantity,” Alex says.
The group continues discussing Alex’s innate skill as they slowly make their way into the forest. The moment they step inside, the light dims.
Even though they aren’t hiding their presence at all, the forest remains eerily silent. They eventually come across a single corrupted wolf, which Tereza disposes of in an instant—diving from above and slashing its neck in one swift strike.
“She’s like a damn eagle, diving to kill her prey,” Alex comments.
“The devil fruit you willingly gave away is incredibly potent. Just the ability to fly is already insanely useful. Add in the stat boosts, the sound attacks, and the blood-sucking ability, and it’s strong enough to make you nearly invincible—at least at this phase of the Realm. You’re very determined and ambitious to have given such a mighty tool away,” Rishi chuckles.
I just thought it would suit her… and it does!
Alex watches as Tereza returns after storing the wolf corpse in her inventory. Her bright smile and captivating appearance catch his attention.
Calm down. Don’t think of this morning, Alex tells himself.
He quickly regains focus, using his meditation technique to calm his aura, centering himself on the task ahead.
The group moves toward the general direction of the Centaur tribe, relying on the rough location marked on their map.
Alex uses the opportunity to scan the forest, occasionally activating Gyo.
After about ten minutes, he suddenly points toward the treetops and yells, “There! I fucking saw it! There’s a damn spider, or maybe more, at the treetops! It’s fucking huge! Can we catch it?”
“Let me fly up and drag it down!” Tereza transforms into her full bat form and takes off.
“Don’t get caught in the web! Don’t rush!” Alex shouts, worried about her.
Tereza vanishes into the dense treetops, and even with Gyo, Alex nearly loses track of her.
It takes her only a minute before she dives back down, her claws gripping a struggling giant spider. She pushes it toward the ground.
At the last moment, Tereza flaps her wings to gain height, avoiding a rough landing herself, leaving only the spider to crash onto the forest floor.
Surprisingly, despite the massive fall, the spider doesn’t seem hurt at all, and it stares menacingly at the group.
Alex takes a closer look. It’s huge, almost as big as the common Thornback Matriarch they took down yesterday. Its body is covered in thick black hair, its dark red eyes gleam with malice, and a sickening, viscous sheen coats its legs. The thing is downright nightmare-inducing.
“Fucking Acromantula! Burn this fucking thing down!” Alex shouts, adrenaline, fear, and logic kicking in at the same time.
Before Alex can even start casting, Rishi already unleashes a fire spell on the creature.
Alex quickly follows screaming, to empower himself: “Fire lvl 4”
Nimbus Cloak effect activates - Increasing Evasion by 5%, and Movement speed by 40%
You have dealt 46 damage to Acromantula.
Tereza flies into the air and unleashes a shrill, piercing cry focused on the Acromantula. The spider writhes in pain, throwing itself onto the ground, its movements now showing a tiny hint of fear.
Rishi follows up with a quick Mindstrike lvl 4
and Mind Flay lvl 4, damaging and slowing the creature.Meanwhile, Alex charges forward, drawing his [Sword of Pluto] and preparing Fire Sword lvl 4. His expression is firm, despite his clear disgust for the monstrous beast in front of him.
Right before reaching the Acromantula, Alex activates Ko, deciding to land a decisive strike now. His aura gathers on his sword, which looks extremely dangerous as the aura combines with the flames.
Nimbus Cloak effect activates - Increasing Evasion by 5%, and Movement speed by 40%
Sensing danger, the wounded Acromantula desperately lunges at Alex—but his sword gives him the advantage in reach. He swings, and the blade cuts straight into the creature’s head, slicing the front part clean in two.
You have dealt 150 + 79 = 229 damage to Acromantula.
You have killed Acromantula.
The mangled body collapses at Alex’s feet, completely lifeless. Its remains are not only charred but nearly split in two.
Even after the system message confirms the kill, Alex instinctively takes two steps back, using the moment to study the corpse up close.
Alex blurts out: “This fucking thing is huge! Insane! It’s almost as big as the Thornback Matriarch, and this is just a common Acromantula! Now imagine the fucking nest, crawling with hundreds, maybe thousands of them! No fucking way can we take it down.”
“This thing also tanked at least 200 damage before dying. I don’t even know how much of an overkill that last strike was… We need to drag another one down and kill it carefully to get some detailed numbers,” Alex explains as Rishi walks over and Tereza glides toward him.
“This is indeed scary. This isn’t just some cannon fodder. I feel like fighting this thing one-on-one would be really difficult for me,” Rishi admits.
Alex nods in agreement with Rishi. “Yeah, your defense sucks. Once this thing grabs you, you wouldn’t be able to escape. I think I wouldn’t struggle against one, maybe I’d have trouble against two, but still, these are strong enemies indeed.”
“Pfft, I can take on as many as I want… If I have problems, I’ll just fly away, hehe,” Tereza brags, chuckling.
As long as you’re not webbed, you can do that…
Suddenly, Tereza steps up to the Acromantula, stabs her dagger into its ugly, mangled face, and carves out a black, stone-like object.
What’s this?!
What do you think?
