First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 1913 - Divine Wraiths

Chapter 1913 - Divine Wraiths

The treasure fragment buzzed and shook violently, erupting with a dense smog of death qi.

Su Yi’s pupils constricted, and he retreated explosively. He could sense an impending lethal threat, so he decisively gave up on the fragment.

But then, something else unexpected happened.

Boom!

The dense smog of death qi rose into the firmament, then condensed into a human figure: a man in armor, holding a spear with unsurpassed valiance!

Countless stars fell like rain around him, along with strange visions of destruction, mountains of corpses, and rivers of blood. His gaze was terrifying to behold, like lightning tearing through the sky.

But Su Yi had seen this tall, stalwart spearman before. He was one of the gods who’d appeared in that vision of a divine war. When he thrust his spear, stars fell, and all of creation withered!

“This…” Su Yi gasped. Is this… the remnant of that ‘god of war’s’ soul?

Before Su Yi could reach any conclusions, the man in armor threw back his head and roared.

Boom!

Heaven and earth trembled, and the sky collapsed with a bang. Su Yi felt a piercing pain in his ears and a shock to his soul.

He was instantly solemn. What kind of monster is this? How could his mere voice be so terrifying?

But the armored man didn’t give Su Yi the chance to think. He swung his spear and attacked explosively.

“Die!” He roared, his voice booming like thunder. Boundless black death qi rose from his body and swept forth, blanketing the sky and blotting out the sun.

When he swung his spear, countless stars surged forth and descended on Su Yi.

Boom!

The entire stretch of heaven and earth seemed to collapse. It was just one strike, but Su Yi was sent flying backward.

The Book of Karma shook violently, and a line of text appeared on a blank page. “A divine wraith! When that god died, his lingering obsession and karmic attachments created this monster!

“Do you still remember the wraiths you fought in the ruins of the Dragon Palace? Those were monsters formed from those who died beneath the power of karmic attachments! Divine wraiths are similar to wraiths. The main difference is that they’re far more terrifying!

“Based on that guy’s aura and strength, he was most likely a terrifying war god in life!

“Also, he’s emanating the aura of an Epoch Tribulation, and I can’t help you neutralize it. If I try, I’ll meet with disaster!”

The Book of Karma was obviously startled and incomparably fearful.

A divine wraith? Su Yi wiped the blood from his lips. Okay, so, that man is a god who died during the tribulation that ended the last epoch!

Boom!

Before Su Yi could give the matter any further thought, the tall, stalwart man attacked once more. His spear shot through the air, and a waterfall of stars descended on Su Yi. Explosive death qi swept forth, shattering the sky.

That divine majesty was indeed far too terrifying. It was far beyond those “unparalleled” divine children.

“Activate!” Su Yi poured his strength into the Sword of Proximity and circulated the full extent of his peak Great Martial Stage cultivation base. He held nothing back.

Sword intent surged from his tall, upright figure, connecting heaven and earth. A perfect world of the Grand Dao appeared behind him, like a massive ruin surging with mysteries of the Dao. His essence, qi, and spirit seemed to catch ablaze, igniting like a furnace.

“Cut!”

Su Yi used the Laws of Reincarnation to unleash the Six Paths Sword Wheel.

Bang!!!

A fierce impact sent Su Yi flying once more.

The tall, stalwart warrior’s death qi diminished somewhat, but he was otherwise entirely unharmed and as fierce as ever.

“He’s seriously this strong?” Su Yi’s brow furrowed.

He’d used the Sword of Proximity in that strike. It could have slain a divine son like Fu Tianyi with ease, yet it barely even shook this divine wraith!

Even the Sword of Proximity shook violently on impact.

Boom!

The armored man gripped his spear and attacked once more.

It was like a black windstorm sweeping through the air. Wherever it passed, heaven and earth collapsed. With every swing of the spear, countless stars came crashing down to earth.

He really did seem like an unparalleled, valiant god of war!

Su Yi took a deep breath, then decided against clashing with the divine wraith head-on. Instead, he drew upon the Tree of Worlds and flitted about the battlefield like a beam of flowing light, dodging the divine wraith’s attacks.

Every time he attacked, it was in a mad fury, like a sudden, pelting rain.

A Moment of Silence.

Adrift in the Sea of Bitterness.

Flowers Bloom on the Far Shore.

The Six Paths Sword Wheel.

And the Transience of Naihe!

These were the five killer moves of his Reincarnation Sword Intent. Now, he displayed them all with his full might.

It was as if a world of reincarnation had appeared. Terrifying sword qi manifested the Bureaus of the Six Paths, the Naihe Bridge, the River of Forgetfulness, the Sea of Bitterness, the Path of the Shore, and other grand and mysterious visions.

Even so, Su Yi was sometimes sent flying. The divine wraith was just that terrifying. He was by far the strongest opponent Su Yi had encountered in this lifetime!

But Su Yi could tell that, by drawing this battle out and whaling on him with sword qi imbued with the power of reincarnation, he was slowly frittering away the divine wraith’s dense death qi!

The divine wraith’s black death qi was, after all, full of the lingering power of an Epoch Tribulation.

This served as further proof that the Laws of Reincarnation really could counter and neutralize the power of an Epoch Tribulation!

“Die!” The armored man was fierce beyond measure, and he knew nothing of pain. He had no true intelligence, either.

Su Yi cast aside his scattered thoughts and continued drawing out the battle. He repeatedly took injuries, and his clothes were stained red.

But the death qi enshrouding the armored divine wraith was rapidly diminishing, and his figure was becoming increasingly ethereal.

A full hour later, Su Yi was bathed in blood. His injuries were so severe that he wouldn’t last much longer.

But the armored man was as indistinct and ethereal as could be, as if he might disappear at a moment’s notice.

Even so, his ferocity was undiminished. He was mad with bloodlust, and he knew nothing of life and death.

Suddenly, Su Yi changed his mind. He wasn’t going to fight all out anymore.

This was the Cave of Divine Tears, a forsaken ground left over from the prior epoch. There was no way that this was the only divine wraith haunting this place.

Moreover, the place was permeated with the gray lightning manifested of the Epoch Tribulation’s lingering aura.

Given the circumstances, Su Yi couldn’t let himself reach the end of his rope. If he did, the consequences would be unimaginable!

“Time to end this.”

As Su Yi’s calm voice rang out, he looked at the charging divine wraith and drew upon the Sword of the Nine Hells, using it to power the Sword of Proximity.

Clang!

A slash flew through the air, and the armored man’s ethereal figure exploded like a popped soap bubble!

Light fell like rain, then dissipated without a trace. All that remained was the dark treasure fragment on the ground.

Su Yi couldn’t be bothered to deal with the treasure he suspected contained Undying Demon Gold right now. He plopped down on the ground, took out a bottle of immortal medicine, and started refining it. He wanted to treat his wounds as quickly as possible.

At the same time, his mind raced to summarize the battle he’d just fought.

Were anywhere else fighting in my place, they’d have died a long time ago. No wonder Feng Wuji dared not venture into these ruins despite knowing of the Undying Demon Gold hidden here. I’m sure he knew that the power of reincarnation could counter divine wraiths, and that’s why he chose to use Ning Xiu to carry out this transaction with me. But it’s also entirely possible that he’s after something else entirely. Maybe he just wants to borrow the divine wraith’s hands to kill me.

Divine wraiths really were terrifying. Without the power of reincarnation, he could never have fought one. He’d have fled a long time ago.

When he fought the divine wraith, perhaps because his Laws of Reincarnation were only at the Great Martial level, his attacks did little damage. All he could do was drag the battle out and whittle his opponent down, bit by bit.

Of course, it would have been completely different if he’d used the Sword of the Nine Hells right off the bat.

Time slipped by. Soon, ten minutes had passed.

Kcch!

A streak of gray lightning descended upon the cross-legged, meditating Su Yi, only for the Book of Karma to leap into the air and block it.

But it merely blocked it; it didn’t neutralize it. The lightning flashed and attacked once more.

Su Yi’d long since noticed the danger. He raised his hand and drew it through the air. The gray lightning imbued with the power of an Epoch Tribulation collapsed, bit by bit.

“Sixth Brother Book, why’d you take such initiative this time?” Su Yi was quite surprised.

The book usually just lay there, sprawled out in resignation. Had it perhaps turned over a new leaf?

The Book of Karma wrote, “Divine Venerate Su, your words wound this book’s heart. I said it earlier: I’d throw myself into the fire for you!”

“Oh?” Su Yi said flatly. “Go ahead and do it, then. I’m curious to see it.”

“...” The Book of Karma didn’t know what to say. Come on! That’s not how you’re supposed to respond!

“Quit the act, okay? Keep acting like a flunky, and all you’ll do is make me want to retch.” Su Yi closed his eyes and resumed his meditation.

The Book of Karma sat there in silent contemplation. In the end, it decided to do as it had before and resign itself to its fate…

Four hours later.

Before Su Yi’s wounds had fully healed, a murky gray cloud shot over from afar. Strangely, countless lightning bolts surged within it.

A tribulation cloud? Su Yi opened his eyes and got up, but before he could give the matter any further thought, the cloud quivered and split.

The countless lightning bolts interwove and condensed into a human figure.

This was a gray-haired Daoist with youthful features, but his eyes were hollow, and dense death qi poured down around him, flashing with countless streaks of tribulation light. He stood in the air like a strange, malevolent god.

Yet another divine wraith!!

Moreover, he was another of the terrifying combatants who’d appeared in that vision of gods waging war.

Su Yi recalled that in the vision, the Daoist had held a scroll. It swept through time and space, shattering the dome of heaven!

Boom!@@novelbin@@

When the Daoist took shape, he raised his right hand into the air and pressed down. A palm imprint condensed out of death qi and descended upon him. Electric light shot forth, collapsing the sky. It seemed like a casual strike, but the Daoist’s power wasn’t all inferior to that of the valiant, armored warrior!

Su Yi didn’t dodge. Instead, he charged straight into the fray.

This expedition into the Cave of Divine Tears might have seemed incomparably perilous, but to him, it was also an opportunity.

He might well invite an opportunity to break into the Great Unity Stage in the midst of these incomparably fierce battles!

“Die!” Su Yi swung the Sword of Proximity with all his might.

His wounds had yet to heal, but that didn’t hold him back.

Boom!

Heaven and earth were overcast. Sword qi whooshed through the air.

This battle was brutal too. It was only after the fighting began that Su Yi realized that the Daoist’s abilities were far more terrifying than the warrior’s had been. In the end, he only held out for an hour before his injuries got so bad that he drew on the Sword of the Nine Hells without hesitation, ending the battle.

Another fragmented weapon fell to the ground, instantly drawing Su Yi’s attention.
