Chapter 772: 771 decides to return to the country

Mo Xiuchen’s voice carried on: “Even though Cheng Jia declared herself to be my fiancée, saying we used to be in love, the truth is I can’t stand the sight of her now. I made it clear to her. Until I regain my memory, our wedding is postponed. She is just my secretary, or at most, a friend.”

“Ranran, would you feel annoyed by the amount of information I am giving you?”

Mo Xiuchen paused halfway through his sentence to ask, his tone laced with a hint of worry.@@novelbin@@

Apparently, he is concerned about boring her with his talk and decided not to proceed any further.

Wen Ran fought the tears welling up in her eyes, responding softly: “Not at all.”

What she wanted to say was, “Xiuchen, you could talk forever; it would never bother me. I just feel heartache for you.”

But she could not say those words out loud.

“That’s good to hear.”

Mo Xiuchen seemed to relax and laugh upon her assurance, then asked: “When suggest I call Cheng Jia?”

“Aren’t you curious about how I’m going to get back at her?”

A playful tone crept into Wen Ran’s voice as she laughed.

She wanted to distract Mo Xiuchen from his loneliness in a foreign country and lift his spirits with her cheery voice.

Upon hearing her voice, Mo Xiuchen’s mood instantly lifted, and he laughed over the phone.

His laughter was deep, magnetic, and pleasant: “Rest assured, I don’t like her. I don’t care how you’re planning to take revenge on her. Ranran, though I wonder what it is that I’ve forgotten, I have a gut feeling that we must have known each other before, and our connection was probably out of the ordinary.”

“But like I said that day, I have forgotten everything; I hate Cheng Jia now and will not stop you from doing something to her.”

Wen Ran felt overwhelmed by a surge of emotions.

Mo Xiuchen had shared so much with her tonight.

She had longed for this but dared not expect it.

“Well, that puts my mind at ease.”

Struggling to hide her sadness, Wen Ran forced a laugh. Despite the fact that her laugh was stiff, she persisted.

“I just want to scare her, originally I didn’t need your assistance, but I really detest Cheng Jia.”

“Mmm.”

Mo Xiuchen murmured back over the phone, indicating that he was listening to her attentively.

Wen Ran explained: “I know Cheng Jia loves you. I wanted to ask if you could help me out by calling her and telling her to open the door in a few hours. Of course, if it’s not convenient or you don’t want to do it, you don’t have to.”

“I don’t mind. I also want to find out whether Cheng Jia is actually scared of ghosts or just pretending.”

To Wen Ran’s surprise, Mo Xiuchen agreed straight away, without hesitation.

This time, Wen Ran truly laughed, her eyes lit with genuine happiness: “Thank you.”

“There’s no need to thank me. I’ll be returning home in a few days. You can thank me by treating me to a meal then.”

Mo Xiuchen made his request effortlessly, but the words hit Wen Ran like a thunderbolt.

“What… What are you coming back for?”

Wen Ran blurted out the question before realizing it might be inappropriate. It was too late to take back.

Mo Xiuchen did not seem to mind the awkward question; instead, he sincerely confessed: “There’s a bidding session in a few days, and I plan to participate.”

“Oh.”

At a loss for words, Wen Ran murmured in response.

Mo Xiuchen seemed satisfied with her reaction. He chuckled, “I went to the hotel yesterday to find you and Ah Kai, only to find out that you guys had already returned home.”

“Mmm.”

Ignoring her racing heartbeat, Wen Ran answered calmly, “I have some other things to handle, so I have to end the call now.”

Meanwhile, Gu Kai’s gaze never left Wen Ran. As soon as she ended the call, he immediately asked: “Ranran, what did Xiuchen tell you?”

Wen Ran gazed at the call log display on her screen, feeling a whirlwind of emotions, as if thousands of flavors had mixed up inside her.

Bai Xiaoxiao, who was sitting closest to her, had heard most of the conversation and stood there, frozen in shock, staring at Wen Ran.

With a gentle tug at her lips, Wen Ran put away her phone, swept a look over Wen Jin, Luo Haofeng, and Gu Kai, flashed a smile and said in a soft voice: “Xiuchen agreed. He will call Cheng Jia later.”

“Ranran, did Xiuchen really talk with you for such a long time just to tell you this?”

Luo Haofeng cocked a brow, his peach blossom eyes twinkling with ambiguity, a teasing grin spread across his face.

Wen Ran chuckled lightly, reached for her chopsticks to put some food into her mouth, chewed and swallowed before she replied indifferently: “Xiuchen told me a lot of things. But, I don’t want to share them with you.”

“Pfft…Cough…”

Unable to hold it in, Bai Xiaoxiao burst into laughter, which quickly turned into a fit of coughing.

Wen Jin and Gu Kai also chuckled, while Luo Haofeng refrained from asking further.

As Bai Xiaoxiao continued to cough, Luo Haofeng wanted to rush over to her aid but for some reason, he refrained himself from standing up and sat back down.

His gaze, however, was filled with concern for Bai Xiaoxiao.

“Xiaoxiao, what are you so worked up over?”

As she patted Bai Xiaoxiao on the back, Wen Ran laughed.

After coughing until her face turned red, Bai Xiaoxiao finally caught her breath, and complained: “Ranran, it’s all your fault that I am coughing.”

“Here, have some water.”

Wen Ran handed her a glass of water, smiling playfully. The corner of her eye caught sight of Luo Haofeng, and she sighed softly.

In the D Country.

After his call with Wen Ran, Mo Xiuchen was shocked at the sheer amount he had shared with her.

It was the most talkative he had been in over two months since losing his memory.

Be it while facing Cheng Jia or dealing with clients, he was always concise. If he could say less, he would not utter an extra word.

But with Wen Ran, he spoke so much more.

Although he had forgotten his past, even if he used to love that woman,

He could not remember it any longer. Yet, subconsciously, he felt a warm sense of familiarity towards her, and he was willing to share everything with her.

He even found it hard to end the call just now. Such a feeling was both exhilarating and unfamiliar to him.

Standing by the roadside next to a Bentley car was Secretary Wu.

Over time, she had grown used to Mo Xiuchen’s unpredictable behavior.

Although she could not hear everything he said during the call, she clearly caught two words.

The affectionate way he said ‘Ranran’.

She watched as his lips curled into a smile time and time again, followed by chuckles.

It was a different side to him, quite unlike the seriousness he displayed at work, or his usual aloof demeanor.

Throughout the call, he was relaxed, his voice gentle, emitting a warm aura.

While lost in her thoughts, Mo Xiuchen hung up and walked towards her.

His deep gaze swept over her as he said indifferently: “Secretary Wu, book me a flight home for tomorrow.” Then he bent down to slide into the Bentley, after the driver held the door open for him.
