Chapter 814: 813 wants to get closer to her

Chapter 814: 813 wants to get closer to her

In this world, nothing is absolute; with determination and a strong will, everything is possible.

Mo Xiuchen was determined to recover his memory, and he believed that he could retrieve it, good or bad; he had to remember.

For in his lost memories was the woman he loved most deeply. Just the thought of Ranran swearing a poisonous oath for him made his heart feel as if it was being relentlessly clutched by an invisible hand, the pain sharp.

Staying at the Wen Family residence, Wen Ran once again could not sleep that night.

The scene with Mo Xiuchen in the car that evening lingered in her mind, inescapable…

...

Despite the sleepless night, Wen Ran still woke up at the crack of dawn.

Coincidentally, as soon as she opened her eyes, she heard footsteps in the corridor outside the door. The faint but steady sound was so familiar that she didn’t need to guess to know who it was.

Her heartbeat instantly missed a beat at the sound of those steps. She held her breath and listened as the footsteps came to a stop outside her room and, moments later, the doorknob turned gently.

Wen Ran’s heartstrings tightened all at once, and despite planning to get up, she almost instinctively closed her eyes again.

The door opened, and beneath the covers, her heart thudded wildly against her chest, pounding heavily in her ears.

As the door opened, a rush of floral fragrance filled the room, startling Wen Ran, who kept her eyes tightly shut, not daring to open them.

Mo Xiuchen’s tall figure stood in the doorway for a moment, his eyes holding a gentle tenderness as he gazed at the quietly sleeping woman on the large bed a few meters away,

His lips curved into a tender smile; just watching her filled him with warmth and a sense of security.

His gaze lingered on her face, and he smiled silently to himself before stepping into the room, his eyes sweeping around her bedroom before walking over to the tea table to place the flowers into the delicate and pretty white jade vase.

Mo Xiuchen walked quietly to the bed, looked down, and gazed at the gentle figure on it; she had a habit of sleeping on her side. Hearing the doorknob turn earlier, she hadn’t had time to change position and had simply closed her eyes.

Now, facing the door, she dared not move.

Mo Xiuchen crouched by the bed, reached out to brush a few strands of hair from her cheek and felt her body tremble slightly. His deep eyes narrowed with amusement as he said softly, “Ranran, time to get up!”

Wen Ran frowned slightly and pretended to be awakened by him, slowly opening her eyes with a drowsy look. Her gaze fell upon his softly smiling, handsome face, and her eyes widened in surprise, “Mo Xiuchen, what are you doing here?”

Mo Xiuchen watched her with a smile, not exposing her feigned sleep, and said cheerfully, “I’ve just arrived. Ranran, do you remember now?”

Wen Ran was taken aback.

“If you want to sleep some more, go ahead.”

Mo Xiuchen explained calmly, then turned to glance at the flowers he had placed in the vase, adding softly, “I picked some flowers for you, to fill the room with their scent while you sleep.”

Wen Ran looked up as Mo Xiuchen stood, took the vase, and placed it on the small table beside her bed, “Ranran, why don’t you get up, have breakfast, and then sleep if you like?”

Wen Ran felt dizzy from his gentleness and smile, her heartbeat out of control. She glanced at the dew-covered flowers and then back to the man in front of her, who was even more captivating than the fresh blooms. She scorned herself; it wasn’t as if she hadn’t seen him so tender and charming before. Why couldn’t she stay calm?

“Step out for a moment, I’ll get up.”

Wen Ran pursed her lips and said softly, sleep being elusive anyway.

Mo Xiuchen nodded, “Ranran, I’ll wait for you downstairs.”

After saying this, Mo Xiuchen turned and elegantly stepped out of her bedroom. As he closed the door behind him, his gaze lingered on her form for a second before shutting the door.

Wen Ran let out a long breath and patted her chest, trying to calm her racing heartbeats.

She got out of bed, changed clothes, washed her face, brushed her teeth…

Ten minutes later, Wen Ran opened the bedroom door and immediately saw Mo Xiuchen standing a few steps away. Hearing the sound, he turned his head and their gazes met.

“Ranran!”

Mo Xiuchen was the first to speak, his voice deep and gentle, very pleasant to the ear.

Wen Ran’s eyes twinkled, and she walked toward him with a smile on her face, “Why didn’t you go down to the living room?”

The smile on Mo Xiuchen’s lips grew wider, lighting up his deep and profound eyes. “I wanted to wait for you here.”

When he said this, his eyes were particularly deep and clear, and his voice seemed deliberately lowered, carrying a seductively husky undertone, magnetic and deep, which unsettled the rhythm of Wen Ran’s heartbeat that had just calmed down.

How could she not hear the underlying message in his words?

He wanted to be closer to her, so he chose not to go to the living room downstairs but to wait outside her room instead.

Her heart was filled with warmth and emotion, and for a moment, she felt overwhelmed.

“Ranran, how long do you plan to stay in G City this time?”

They walked side by side toward the stairway, Mo Xiuchen gazing at Wen Ran beside him and asking gently.

Wen Ran looked up at him and answered softly, “I’ll return to City C tomorrow.”

She had come back just for a short visit.

“What time is your flight tomorrow? Have you booked your ticket yet?”

“Not yet.”

“Then let me know once you’ve booked your ticket. Tomorrow, I’ll take you to the airport.”

Mo Xiuchen’s lack of attempt to persuade her to stay longer somewhat surprised Wen Ran.

She had thought that Mo Xiuchen would ask her to stay a few more days.

Although they had agreed last night that he wouldn’t pressure her and would just interact as friends, his early-morning visit to her home with fresh flowers was more than what ordinary friends would do.

Dismissing the wild guesses in her mind, Wen Ran politely declined, “There’s no need.”

“It’s settled, then.”

Mo Xiuchen made the decision himself and, reaching the staircase, he stopped to let her go first. Wen Ran still wanted to say something, but Mo Xiuchen’s phone suddenly rang.

Downstairs in the living room, Wen Jin was reading the newspaper.

Seeing Wen Ran come down the stairs, Wen Jin smiled, set down the paper, stood up, and asked warmly, “Ranran, why are you up so early? You weren’t woken up by someone, were you?”

As he spoke, he glanced at Mo Xiuchen at the top of the stairs, answering a call. Wen Ran replied with a bright and cheerful smile, “Bro, it has nothing to do with Mo Xiuchen, I just woke up on my own.”

Wen Jin laughed, “You usually like to sleep in. I thought you would sleep past nine today, so I didn’t even plan to call you for breakfast.”

“Bro, am I as lazy as you say?”

Wen Ran protested, and Wen Jin nodded earnestly, eliciting Wen Ran to pout in displeasure. Mo Xiuchen finished his phone call and came down from the second floor, joining in, “If I hadn’t woken Ranran up, she really would still be asleep.”

“I…”

Wen Ran turned around and met Mo Xiuchen’s smiling, deep eyes, and her retort suddenly got stuck in her throat.
