Chapter 359 Tired Heart
Ding-a-ling-a-ling.
Just as he was about to touch those moist, soft red lips, the abrupt ringing of a cell phone startled them both awake.
Chen Weiwei’s cheeks were already a rosy red, but they flushed even deeper as she took a step back, disentangling herself from Li Chen’s embrace.
Fuck.
Li Chen cursed inwardly. Who the hell was calling at a time like this?
He pulled out his phone and, to his surprise, it was Chen Wanqiu.
"Li Chen, where have you gone? Dad and your second brother are asking about you."
"Oh, I’m downstairs. I’ll be right up," he replied.
After hanging up, he looked towards Chen Weiwei.
Before he could speak, Chen Weiwei beat him to it, "Let’s go! Don’t keep Grandpa and Dad waiting, we should head up..."
She seemed a bit shy and, having said her piece, she walked ahead.
Li Chen chuckled lightly and hurried to catch up, once again taking hold of that delicate, fair hand in his own.
Though he hadn’t managed to steal a kiss, feeling somewhat regretful, the thought of a breakthrough in their relationship still brought him a slice of joy.
As they neared the hall, their joined hands finally parted.
"Young Miracle Doctor, this way, please!"
The moment he entered the hall, Chen Yaohui came over, ushering Li Chen towards a group at the front, where they finally came to a halt.
"The Young Miracle Doctor is a savior to our Chen Family. We are deeply grateful for your presence at this crusty old man’s birthday celebration!" Chen Bingtian said with a warm smile, opening the conversation.
"You flatter me, sir. May you have the fortune of the Eastern Seas and a lifespan as enduring as the Southern Mountains," Li Chen responded, knowing that pleasantries were appropriate for the occasion.
Besides, with the presence of both Chen Wanqiu and Chen Weiwei, any initial irritation had long since evaporated.
Next to speak was the Chen Family’s eldest, Chen Yaobin. It was their first meeting, but Chen Yaobin was quite courteous.
Li Chen replied with a smile to each in turn.
Though he disliked such events, he was capable of handling them without issue.
"Little bro, we meet again!"
Next, Li Chen caught sight of a familiar face—Ye Shiman’s husband, Liang Dong.
Considering that he and Chen Yaohui were both high-ranking officials in the Public Security Association and came from impressive backgrounds, it wasn’t surprising to see them here.
He scanned the area around Liang Dong but saw no sign of Ye Shiman. It seemed she hadn’t come along.
The commotion had already attracted the attention of many in the hall.
On seeing Li Chen at the center, they grew curious about the identity of this young man.
When they learned that Chen Yaohui’s illness had been cured by Li Chen, surprise was followed by a sudden desire to get acquainted.
To the wealthy and powerful, a divine doctor with extraordinary medical skills was not someone to be missed.
Making contact was as simple as exchanging a few pleasantries, no loss on their part.
After all, such an acquaintance might save their life one day.
Luckily, those who approached were well-connected with the Chen Family, so the crowd wasn’t too large.
Others might be concerned about impressing such dignitaries, but Li Chen was not particularly interested.
All hustle and bustle in this world are driven by self-interest.
Aside from his medical skills, he couldn’t think of anything else that might warrant such attention.
A bit resigned, he managed to deal with them courteously on the surface.
Lin Guangchang took note as well.
After his gaze lingered on Li Chen for a moment, confirming he was the same young man he had seen at the entrance, Lin Guangchang grew even more curious about Li Chen’s identity, which seemed to draw the interest of many distinguished figures.
"Haocheng!"
Only then did he remember that after being here for so long, he still hadn’t seen his son.
He made a call and listened to a mournful complaint. Haocheng hadn’t even entered the door, which caused Lin’s expression to shift subtly.
As someone seasoned in the business world, his mind was particularly quick-witted. Even without clear details, he could guess the gist of the situation.
Off to a rough start! The business deal hadn’t even begun, and he’d already pissed off a mysterious young man who seemed to have an issue with his son.
Lin Guangchang’s distraction went unnoticed by Li Chen.
After dealing with each person around him, Li Chen finally let out a sigh of relief. He decided to avoid such banquets in the future if he could help it.
His body felt tired, and so did his heart.
"You little rascal, how are you feeling?" Chen Wanqiu asked with a smile, coming over as he finally got a break.
"Not great. I’m exhausted. If there’s nothing else, I’m going to head back," he replied.
"I know you don’t like these events, so I’m really happy you came. It means you actually care about me, you little rascal. Let’s go, I’ll take you home," she suggested.
"Can you leave already?"
"It’s almost over anyway, and it doesn’t make any difference whether I’m here or not. Just wait a bit, I’ll go say goodbye."
Taking advantage of Chen Wanqiu’s absence, Li Chen scanned the area for Chen Weiwei once more, but she was nowhere to be found.
Knowing she also disliked such scenes, he figured she probably found a quiet place to escape to.
When Chen Wanqiu returned, they didn’t linger and went downstairs together.
Once in the car, his eyes fell on Chen Wanqiu’s exquisite face, which soon brought Chen Weiwei’s image to mind.
The aunt and niece resembled each other, both astonishingly beautiful.
The thought of having them both within his grasp filled him with a smug delight.
"You little bastard, what are you staring at? You really did me in today..." Chen Wanqiu glared at him harshly. @@novelbin@@
"What’s wrong? Did your husband check you out or what?" Li Chen asked with a mischievous smile.
Knowing exactly what she meant, he was moved by the thought and reached for that tantalizing place that was left unguarded, touching it. Experience more on NovelBin.Côm
