Forest Ranger, starting from Picking Up a Lynx Girl

Chapter 73 73: Heard You Can Introduce Someone (Extra)

After the two comrades from the base left, Professor Bai stayed behind.

He had a week's vacation and originally planned to travel, but upon visiting his student's place, he found the environment pleasing and that there were Big Cats to pet, so he decided to spend his vacation here instead.

Chen Ying wanted to refuse but didn't have the courage.

"I heard about the issue with the Bird Research Institute from Professor Song. The school will handle the follow-up, don't inquire about it. He has some connections that are helping him out."

Chen Ying kept his head down and remained silent.

"Alright, you and your stubbornness." After all, as his mentor, he couldn't bear to see his promising student get discouraged.

"With Professor Song involved, he won't get off easily. Most likely less than three years, plus a fine. He can forget about reading more books, and he won't be able to mix in the bird circles anymore. Even if he goes abroad, given Professor Song's status in bird research, it will be difficult for him to make a name for himself in this lifetime."

Hearing his mentor's words, Chen Ying sighed and felt somewhat relieved.

Ignoring his twisted student, Professor Bai exercised in the woodland, practiced some health preservation boxing, and then began his daily routine of teasing the cats.

Jinya almost couldn't stand him anymore, going in and out early and late, specifically avoiding this older Two-legged beast.

Little Jin was fine though, standing high up where Professor Bai couldn't reach it (*^▽^*)

Three days later, an urgent call took Professor Bai away.

An old Tiger at the Gan Province Zoo had a sudden illness, and Professor Bai was needed for a surgery support.

As the old man left, Chen Ying breathed a sigh of relief, even the Big Spirit Cat Mother looked like she had survived a disaster.

That old man was too much to handle; he'd have brought all the animals in for a checkup if he could.

These three days, the Big Spirit Cat Mother hardly dared to close her eyes, fearing that she might not notice if her Little Cub was taken away.

If it weren't for the affection she had for the Two-legged beast, she would have moved her family away long ago.

Seeing the old man leave, Little Jin swiftly darted into the woods to report to Jinya.

As the Big Spirit Cat Mother was hugging her cub asleep, a strange, fierce beast scent approached.

The Big Spirit Cat Mother instantly woke up, held her three cubs tightly, and looked outside warily.

Chen Ying, reading on the second floor, also sensed something was off. He looked up and locked eyes with a certain aloof creature.

A Clouded Leopard? What is it doing here?

The few temporary residents here, having been saved by him, held a trace of trust and dependence, which made them reluctantly stay together awaiting the winter.

Under normal circumstances, wild animals would naturally avoid human and other fierce beasts' territories.

Jinya, though appearing cute most times, actually had a domineering nature; she had claimed these surroundings as her territory long ago, even the bears knew to keep their distance.

If it wasn't for the fact that Big Spirit Cat Mother had her cubs and had been saved by Chen Ying, she would have driven them away long ago.

The Clouded Leopard didn't come too close, stopping at the edge of the woods and sniffing hard, remaining vigilant as it climbed a tree.

"Two-legged beast, did the Leopard tell you that you could help find a mate?"

Wow, a baritone?

Chen Ying walked to the ground floor patio, leaned on the railing, and started chatting with the Clouded Leopard.

"Who told you that? I saw you hunting down antelope calves before; you're so fierce, do you really need my help finding a mate?"

The Clouded Leopard lay on the tree, its eyes level with Chen Ying.

"There are no females in my territory, and I have traveled far without finding a suitable mate."

This news weighed heavy.

Chen Ying knew the number of Clouded Leopards in the country was already sparse, but he hadn't expected that none could be found in such a large territory.

Conservation still needed effort.

"I have an old Female Leopard in my territory, but she is too old to have children. Last year there was another Female Leopard, the daughter of Old Leopard, but she left my territory after reaching adulthood."

The male clouded leopard looked at Chen Ying calmly.

He had encountered two flower leopards while marking territory in the neighboring forest to attract a female leopard.

One of the female leopards told him to come here and seek help from humans.

He swore he saw pity in the female leopard's eyes for the single leopard.

Chen Ying felt it was unrealistic to find a female leopard for him in these mountains, as there hadn't been a clouded leopard sighting in ten years.

Maybe he really should seek help from a zoo?

Thinking about the research he had done over the past couple of days, he realized that many captive clouded leopards displayed instances of domestic violence.

There was a recent report of a male clouded leopard biting a female to death in a zoo after they were put in the same cage.

Given their already low numbers, losing a female leopard could mean a potential continued decrease in their population.

Chen Ying took out his phone, ready to make a call for help, but before dialing, he looked seriously at the male clouded leopard.

"I need to ask you something, and you must tell me the truth."

Chen Ying chose his words carefully, tentatively asking, "Would you bite a female leopard to death at the slightest disagreement?"

The clouded leopard tilted its head, looking even more puzzled than Chen Ying.

"Why would I bite her to death? If it doesn't work out, I'll just leave; I can find another one elsewhere."

Alright, this clouded leopard didn't seem to have a tendency toward domestic violence.

This matter was directly to take to his mentor, Professor Bai.

Professor Bai collaborated with many zoos and was a stabilizing force in the veterinarian world. Even if the zoos refused, they wouldn't be too harsh about it.

After the phone call went through, and Professor Bai heard his student's plea, he only asked, "Can you confirm that this male clouded leopard has mating needs?" before agreeing to inquire with the zoo.

The clouded leopard, small among the Big Cat group, was slightly larger in size, measuring almost 1.23 meters long, which far exceeded the recorded 108cm length of captive ones.

Regarding its hunting ability, one could gauge its ferocity from its ease of hunting down an antelope calf.

Records showed that the clouded leopard's hunting habit resembled that of the extinct saber-toothed tiger, attacking from behind the head, which earned it the nickname "Little Saber-toothed Tiger."

Seeing the clouded leopard leisurely lying on the tree, Chen Ying's fingers twitched with the urge to pet the fierce cat.

Just as Chen Ying and the clouded leopard were "gazing affectionately" at each other, Jinya and Little Jin returned.

Before they even entered their small building, Jinya sensed another fierce animal's intrusion and hurriedly quickened her pace, fearing that her two-legged beast might be attacked.

To her fury, upon arriving, she saw the shameless beast flirting with her two-legged beast!

In that instant, Jinya got furious, dropped the prey she had brought back, and tried to duel with the clouded leopard.

The clouded leopard leaped to a higher spot in the tree the moment Jinya charged out.

Lynx wasn't as good a climber as the clouded leopard, frustrating Jinya, who started yowling at the base of the tree.

"You soulless beast, come down here! If you're brave enough to climb, be brave enough to come down and fight!"

The clouded leopard, perched high on a branch, gave a glance at the almost frantic Jinya and, without another word, swiftly leaped to another tree. Within a few breaths, it disappeared from sight.

Chen Ying hadn't even reacted when the clouded leopard had already run off.

He quickly tried to calm Jinya down, but the infuriated lynx girl turned and ran.

She went to sulk in her own cat nest.

"What happened to her?" Chen Ying looked at Jinya for a while, then asked Little Jin, who was calmer, in exasperation.

"She's mad because you're attracting another cat again."

Little Jin was smart; it never approached Chen Ying on its own, except for check-ups and generally stayed away from where Chen Ying was, showing no intention of competing with Jinya for affection.

But this clouded leopard was different. Its appearance instantly made Jinya's alarm bells go off.

Jinya: Family, who understands? The two-legged beast I've painstakingly raised is about to be lured away by that shameless leopard! What should I do, urgent, waiting online!
