Chapter 80 - 80 79 Throwing Feces
Chapter 80: Chapter 79: Throwing Feces Chapter 80: Chapter 79: Throwing Feces Mrs. Chen also said loudly, “Mrs. Hu, we Chens are a decent farming family, we never engage in things that would bring shame upon us. If you dare to do such despicable things, we Chens won’t want you anymore, let alone this time it’s Dabao who is being harmed. You better return to the Hu’s family.”
Seeing Chen Ye and Mrs. Chen said these words, Mrs. Hu was also frightened. She cried and said, “I really don’t know anything about this. My brother Laowu said the two parrots are worth some silver and asked me to ask Uncle Chen, so I did. When they refused to sell, I went back and told my brother and returned home. I really don’t know anything else. Chen Ye, even if I had such a bad idea, I wouldn’t even dare to negotiate openly.”
Mrs. Hu really didn’t know that Hu Laowu had made arrangements to hurt Dabao. Although she wanted to sell the two parrots for some silver, she knew her husband and mother-in-law protected Chen Ming and his family strongly. They also disapproved of Hu Laowu’s actions, so she didn’t dare to openly help Hu Laowu harm Dabao.
When Chen Ye recalled that Mrs. Hu once asked him to ask for the two parrots, his face went red. Fortunately, he did not ask, otherwise it would be hard to explain now.
He glared at Mrs. Hu angrily and scolded, “You dumb woman, I’ll deal with you when I get back.” He then said to Chen Ming, “I will go to the Hu’s house now and have a serious talk with them. Over the past 20 years, I have not worked for Hu’s family a little, and the food from my family has filled their stomachs, how can they treat my Chens like this. I will tell them to keep away from your things and not to touch Dabao again.”
Chen Agu said, “I will go with my father.”
The father and son went to the Hu’s house, and Chen Ming and Mrs. Wang returned home to wait for the news.
Before long, Chen Ye came back and said that Hu Laowu had gone to the county town to his brother-in-law’s house in the late afternoon and wouldn’t be back until tomorrow. He also comforted them, “Don’t worry, Second Brother. I’ll confront Hu Laowu tomorrow. We are all relatives; I won’t allow him to touch Dabao again.”
It seemed that Hu Laowu had gone into hiding.
Chen Ming had no choice but to wait.
Dabao was still sobbing in Afu’s arms. He leaned his head tightly against Chen Afu’s shoulder, whimpering from time to time, “Mother, I’m scared.”
Chen Afu gently rubbed his little face with her chin and whispered, “Don’t be scared, my son. Mother is here.”
From the late afternoon all the way until they went to bed at night, Dabao was like this, he even ate his meals sitting in Afu’s arms.
Qi Qi and Hui Hui are only back before dark. These two little creatures didn’t even know the trouble they’ve caused and found their human’s look towards them full of displeasure. So they tried to please their humans by fluttering their wings and saying all sorts of pleasing words. They recite poems to Chen Ming; they cried for pee to Dabao; they called mother to Afu; they called uncle to Alu; they called grandmother to Mrs. Wang.
This made everyone felt both upset and amused. These treasures are like their family members, how could they bear giving them away to others.
Afu praised Zhui Feng again and promised to buy meaty pork bones for it to chew on as a reward.
When they went to bed at night, Dabao still held tightly onto Afu. She comforted him for a long time before his emotions calmed down and he gradually fell asleep.
Afu initially wanted to enter the space and have a chat with Jin Yanzi, but Dabao was holding her tightly in his sleep, making her immobile.
Gradually, Afu fell asleep too.
Deep into the night, the earth was empty and silent, only the stars in the sky twinkled.
Suddenly, a sharp howl came from a small courtyard at the northeast of the Xiangluo village. This howl was different from ordinary dogs and wolves. The sound was particularly loud in the quiet night, making it particularly abrupt and frightening. It seemed to wake up the whole village, and suddenly it was a cacophony of dogs barking, chickens crowing, and children crying, including Dabao.
Afu was also startled awake; it was the howl of Zhui Feng. It was her first time hearing its howl so loud and mournful.
She comforted Dabao, “Don’t be scared, it’s Zhui Feng.”
But Dabao was so scared that he continued to cry loudly.
Afu quickly got up, put on her coat, and holding the weeping Dabao who was clinging to her, she left the East Room.
Zhui Feng had already jumped out of the window of the West Room, was standing up scratching the side door and howling. Qi Qi and Hui Hui also had flown out by now, standing on the ground imitating Zhui Feng’s howl, only their voices were much softer.
The New Courtyard was filled with the howling of several dogs and the bitter cries of children. It was horrific.
Afu also heard the shouting voices of Chen Ming and Mrs. Wang coming from the Old Courtyard, “Who, who is it?”
She opened the side door; in the Old Courtyard, there was a strong stench.
Zhui Feng shot towards the Fence Wall like an arrow. Being too small to jump over the Fence Wall, Zhui Feng was banging against the wall and howling in desperation.
Under the starry night, there was a large pile of yellow substance in the courtyard, which was obviously excrement. Outside the fence gate there was also a bucket which was half full of excrement. It seemed that whoever did this was scared away by the howling of Zhui Feng before they could finish the job.
This was Hu Laowu’s trademark move. His actions were so obvious; he clearly wanted Chen Ming to know that he did these things!
On seeing this, Chen Ming and Mrs. Wang were so angry that they started cursing, “Hu Laowu, you damned bastard!”
Someone from the neighborhood got up and asked loudly in their own yard, “What’s going on?”
Chen Ming replied loudly, “Someone dumped excrement in my house.”
The neighbours responded, “Oh, as long as no one got hurt. Ah…” Then, there was no more sound.
Mrs. Wang was mopping up the yard and cursing constantly.
Looking at Zhui Feng, who was pacing around the yard unwillingly, Afu realized it not only has the charming quality, but also three significant features: a loud voice, good hearing, and bravery.
Jin Yanzi really has a good eye for judging.
Afu took the sobbing Dabao back to the room and put him to bed. Even though he soon fell asleep, she herself lost all sleep. Eyes wide open, she remained awake till dawn.
In the morning, the family casually ate their breakfast. Just as they finished washing the dishes, Mrs. Chen, Chen Ye, and Chen Agu came over. They had faintly heard the howling of Zhui Feng last night.
When they heard about the incident of excrement being dumped in Chen Ming’s house, Mrs. Chen and Chen Ye started cursing again. Chen Ye was particularly resentful, as Hu Laowu’s behavior was a slap in his face.
Chen Agu also looked upset. He got up and said, “I’ll go and see if my uncle is back. It’s not right to use these tricks on your relatives.”
After a short while, he came back looking dejected, saying, “Aunt said my uncle hasn’t returned yet.”
What he didn’t say was, Laowu’s wife Mrs. Fu was furious and lashed out at Chen Agu, “My man is not even in the village, yet someone dumped excrement at your uncle’s house and picked on his child. How can you say my man did it all? It’s because you offended someone, so stop blaming others for your own faults.”
While everyone was discussing, surprisingly, Junior Manager Luo came to visit.
Chen Ming and the others warmly invited him into the house.
Junior Manager Luo patted Dabao’s head and said, “Were you scared? Don’t worry, Uncle Luo has your back.”
Tears rolled down Dabao’s face again. He wiped them with his sleeve and said, “Thank you Uncle Luo.”
What do you think?
