A loud cracking sound of bones could be heard as Lin Fan's hammers hit the rat man's back.

It sent the rat man tumbling across the ground.

"Argh."

The rat man cried out in agony as the pain from his back was too much for him to bear.

He slowly got up and turned around to face Lin Fan.

Lin Fan lunged and smashed the rat man again with his hammers.

This time it sent the rat man flying into the air until he hit a tree trunk.

The rat man rolled to the side, dodging the fallen tree, and coughed out a mouthful of blood.

Rats started to swarm around the blood he coughed out, and the rat man caught a handful of them.

He put the rats into his mouth and munched on them.

With every bite of the rat in his mouth, the rat man's posture straightened up as the pain in his back went away.

Lin Fan then swiped his hammers at the rat man.

The illuminated Ember Wolf and Frost Fang Ice Tiger lunged at the rat man.

Rats covered the rat man's body immediately.

The Ember Wolf with its flames burned the rats as it tried to gnaw at the rat man.

The charred smell of meat filled the air.

On the other side, the Frost Fang Ice Tiger froze the rats with its frost fang.

Soon, there weren't enough rats covering the rat man, and he was exposed again.

Lin Fan saw the opportunity, lunged in, and thrust his Dragon's Roar Spear at the rat man's head.

It missed as the rat man tilted his head.

Lin Fan then thrust the spear at the rat man's body.

Boom.

To his surprise, the rat man used his hands and burrowed into the ground.

The next moment, he saw the ground being elevated with a small hump, and the hump came toward him.

Lin Fan stomped onto the ground with his Seismic Rupture ability.

The ground shook as a seismic wave radiated outward from where he was standing in a circular motion.

The soil and dirt ruptured as everything was overturned from beneath.

Lin Fan saw the rat man hurled into the air by the Seismic Rupture, like a piece of meat tossed from a frying pan.

Boom.

He leaped into the air with his Skybound Stride.

Using his spear, he thrust it into the rat man's neck.

Splatter.

Blood spurted out from the rat man's neck.

The rats desperately wanted to get to the rat man, and they stacked onto one another.

Slowly, a small mountain formed as the stack got higher and higher as more rats gathered.

Lin Fan held the rat man in the air with his spear as he was now able to hover for 10 seconds with his Skybound Stride.

"You shall... pay for this! My brothers and sisters... will avenge my death!" The rat man said with a gargling sound as the blood flowed into his lungs.

Lin Fan heard what he said and turned his spear to the side, making the wound larger and inflicting more pain upon the rat man.

Finally, the 10 seconds were up, and he descended onto the ground with the rat man.

And when he landed, a familiar sound erupted in his mind.

The rat man lay motionless on the ground, and the rats started to disperse and scurry away.

"Well done." Hun Yen Kun's voice sounded in the air.

Lin Fan turned and saw Hun Yen Kun coming toward him with some disciples clearing the rats.

"Who is this?" Lin Fan pointed at the body of the rat man and asked.

"He is First Rat from the Twelve Astrology Guards," Hun Yen Kun said.

Lin Fan frowned and said, "So there's more of them to come?"

Hun Yen Kun shrugged and said, "That's unfortunately correct."

He turned to the disciples behind him and said, "Bring the body to the Formation Peak Lord."

They would have to try and gather as much information as they could about the Twelve Astrology Guards and the Lady Saint's plan with Zhao Ming Ye's Memory Recall Formation.

The disciples carried the body of the rat man away, and Lin Fan went back to his tent.

Along the way back, he saw most of the Qing Feng Sect disciples busy trying to purge the rat poison from their bodies.

Ho Ming, Lee Xiao, and Tai Lan were already back to normal when he entered the tent.

"What happened outside?" Lee Xiao asked.

"Nothing much. Senior martial brother Hun Yen Kun came to the rescue and defeated the person controlling the rats," Lin Fan said.

Lee Xiao nodded and tried to pass the bottle of Blood and Qi Restoration Pill back to Lin Fan.

Lin Fan shook his head, pushed the pill bottle back, and said, "Keep it. I promised to keep you alive, remember."

"But we..." Lee Xiao said, but Lin Fan stopped him.

"If you want to, that's one tael of silver," Lin Fan said.

Lee Xiao rummaged through the pocket compartment in his sleeve but couldn't find anything but a few copper coins.

He glanced over to Tai Lan.

Tai Lan did the same but could only find a bun from his sleeve.

Lee Xiao slapped his forehead when he saw the bun.

"That's it then. Listen to my instruction and try to stay alive," Lin Fan said and lay on his bed.

Lee Xiao looked at Lin Fan and felt immense gratitude.

Lin Fan was the only person other than Tai Lan to treat him as a person.

Those that he had met so far looked down on him due to his background as a servant.

He also felt a bit of guilt as he had looked at 'Lu Ding' the same way as these people.

I shall do whatever it takes to make up for my mistake, Lee Xiao thought silently to himself.

"I'm tired. Let's sleep early," Tai Lan's voice broke Lee Xiao's thoughts, and he quickly got into bed.

Ho Ming volunteered to stay up and stand guard for the rest of the night.
