Chapter 386: Bets
Sun Hai and Zhang Xi also joined in to see how well the new disciples would perform.
When they got to the central square, there was already a huge crowd of all the disciples getting ready for the monthly rankings.
Everyone's attention turned onto the unfamiliar faces.
They looked at Liang Feng, Shao Xue Cong, and Lin Xuan Qi and tried to size them up.
The new disciples weren't used to such attention, and they kept quiet, except Lin Xuan Qi.
Lin Xuan Qi was all smiles and nodded at everyone that met his gaze.
Shao Xue Cong observed the disciples and thought about who her potential match would be.
Liang Feng just kept quiet and stayed calm.
"Don't worry too much. As long as you follow what I've taught you, you shall be all right," Lin Fan said and led them to the registration counter.
The disciple at the registration counter took down the names and cultivation level of Liang Feng, Shao Xue Cong, and Lin Xuan Qi.
He proceeded to slot them into their respective brackets for their ranking match.
Other disciples quickly gathered around to check on the cultivation level of the new faces.
"Let me have a look."
"Xian, don't be selfish. I can make a better bet if I know their cultivation level."
"No, you don't. You've never ever won a bet."
The disciples jostled to have a look at the cultivation level so that they would be able to place their bets.
One of the disciples finally broke through the crowd and saw the cultivation level.
"What?"
He gasped at what he saw.
How was this possible?
They had only joined Qing Feng Sect a month ago.
Other disciples at the back got impatient.
"Why the surprised look? Don't exaggerate."
"Yeah. Tell us what's their cultivation level."
"Most likely they are in the Qi sensing group; being able to only sense Qi is normal after a month."
They didn't expect much from the new faces.
"They are in the Qi Concentration Stage Two bracket."
When the other disciples heard it, they couldn't believe their ears.
"You must be fooling around with us."
"How is it possible?"
"Let me see for myself. Don't try and fool me into making the wrong bet."
The other disciples didn't believe it and they jostled to see it for themselves.
One by one, after they saw the writing in black and white, they turned around with their mouths opened wide.
They hurriedly ran over to the punter's table.
"I want to bet on the new disciples with ten contribution points."
"Me too, a piece of silver."
"Here, my twenty contribution points."
The disciples wanted to make a bet on the new faces, as they hadn't seen such talents for a long time after Lin Fan.
How could they miss out on this opportunity?
The senior disciple as the bookie dealing with the bets was surprised by their sudden enthusiasm.
"You guys sure about your bet? You know, having a high cultivation level doesn't mean they can fight well."
He had seen so many promising young ones step into the ring and chicken out.
"I want to bet a hundred contribution points each on Liang Feng, Shao Xue Cong, and Lin Xuan Qi."
Lin Fan pushed the disciples apart and placed his wooden slab onto the bookie's hand.
"You... sure about this?" The bookie stammered as he mentally calculated the odds and how much he might have to pay out if Lin Fan won.
He glanced over at Liang Feng, Shao Xue Cong, and Lin Xuan Qi.
They looked to be nervous as they stood at the registration counter.
Liang Feng was quiet, Shao Xue Cong had her head down and was in thought.
Lin Xuan Qi just smiled at everyone.
The bookie narrowed his eyes and decided to take a risk.
"I accept your bet. Two times the reward if you win."
He offered odds of two to one, thinking that there would be others that would bet on the other side.
But he felt chills up his spine when the other disciples joined in.
"Take my contribution points. I'm following senior martial brother Lin Fan."
"Same here."
"Here's my piece of silver."
They pushed each other to have a chance to place their bet.
"Are you sure about this?" The bookie's assistant walked over and asked the bookie.
It was too late, and the bookie couldn't do anything but give the assistant a frown.
Lin Fan walked back to where his juniors were and gave them a smile.
"Don't think too much about it. Have confidence in yourselves and enjoy the fight."
They nodded and focused on the matches that were about to start.
"First match, Lee versus Song!"
The judge called for the first match and the competitors stood facing each other in the ring.
Liang Feng, Shao Xue Cong, and Lin Xuan Qi watched intensely at what happened.
The two competitors with their swords thrust at each other with the twirling wind strike.
They thought about what Lin Fan had taught them on dealing with the Twirling Wind Strike and mentally thought about how they would deal with it.
Soon, the match was over and the next match started.
Slowly, they grew more confident with what they saw.
Competitors didn't seem to be any better than they were.
They felt that they had a chance of winning.
Finally, Liang Feng's name was called, and he stepped into the ring.
He glanced back at Lin Fan and Lin Fan gave him an approving nod.
Be confident and do what I was taught. Liang Feng repeated it in his mind as he stood against his opponent.
His opponent, who was a man around twenty-five, seemed menacing with a scar running from his left forehead to his right cheek.
"Next match, Liang Feng versus Zhan Lao!"
The judge flagged down his arm and the match began.
Sing.
Zhan Lao drew out his sword and spat on the ground.
"Let me show you what having experience means!"
He gripped his sword handle tightly and drew back his arm.
With a step forward, he thrust his sword at Liang Feng.
The crowd watched anxiously as most of them had their bets on Liang Feng.
They held onto their breath as the twirling wind shot towards Liang Feng.
What do you think?
