Chapter 2: Baptism in Blood
The moon hung high above the Blood Shadow Sect’s outer courtyard, casting an eerie glow over the crimson-stained ground. Yun Hao stood over Wei Long’s lifeless body, his breath coming in short, rapid bursts. The axe pulsed in his hands, a rhythmic, insatiable hunger surging through the metal and into his very soul. He felt it coursing through him—a dark, intoxicating power, growing with every drop of blood it consumed.
The whispers were clearer now, no longer fragmented thoughts but a guiding voice within his mind. More. Take more. Grow stronger.
Yun Hao swallowed hard, his trembling hands gripping the axe tighter. His body buzzed with newfound energy. He had never felt this strong before. Wei Long had been stronger than him, a tormentor who never hesitated to put him down. And now? Now, his Qi belonged to Yun Hao.
He took a shaky step back, trying to process everything. His heart still pounded with adrenaline, but the fear that had once dictated his every action had dulled. Instead, something else stirred within him—a sense of control, of dominance.
But he was not safe yet.
Wei Long’s absence would not go unnoticed for long. The Blood Shadow Sect was filled with ruthless cultivators, each waiting for an opportunity to eliminate the weak. If they discovered him standing over a corpse with an unknown artifact in hand, he would not live to see the next sunrise.
He needed to move.
Yun Hao turned on his heel and slipped into the darkness, the axe still warm in his grasp. The sect’s outer disciple quarters were a labyrinth of stone corridors and simple wooden dormitories. He kept to the shadows, his body lighter, faster than before. The Qi coursing through him allowed him to suppress his presence better than ever. He could hear every footstep, every hushed conversation. His senses were sharper. This was the axe’s power at work.
And it wanted more.
A flicker of movement caught his eye. Two disciples stood near the entrance to one of the larger barracks, speaking in hushed tones. He recognized them immediately—Feng Lai and Luo Zhi, both known for their cruelty toward weaker disciples. Wei Long had been their friend. If they found his body, they would investigate. They would hunt down the killer.
He couldn’t allow that.
Yun Hao’s grip on the axe tightened as he crouched lower. His instincts screamed at him to flee, to disappear into the night. But the axe? It demanded blood.
Strike. Feast. Become unstoppable.
For a moment, he hesitated. Killing Wei Long had been an act of revenge, of desperation. This? This would be calculated. A choice. Was he really ready to take that step?
A cold realization settled over him. He had already crossed the line. There was no turning back now.
He moved swiftly.
In a flash, Yun Hao was upon them. His first swing was silent, efficient—the axe cleaved through Feng Lai’s neck before he could even react. Blood sprayed in a violent arc, coating the stone walls. Luo Zhi barely had time to gasp before Yun Hao pivoted, the blade burying itself in his chest. The axe vibrated with pleasure as it drank greedily, consuming their Qi, their life force, their very essence.
A shudder ran through Yun Hao’s body as his cultivation surged again. His meridians stretched, expanding to contain the growing power within him. The rush was almost too much, a euphoric sensation that made his head spin.
But it was not enough.
The whispers coiled around his mind, urging him forward. More. Grow. Devour.
Yun Hao exhaled sharply, steadying himself. He had to be careful. Strength alone wouldn’t keep him alive in the Blood Shadow Sect. He needed to be smart, to remain unseen. If he was discovered, he would be hunted down like an animal.
He dragged the bodies into the shadows, wiping the blood from the axe’s blade. The weapon shimmered faintly, the dull edge from before now gleaming with a sinister luster. It was evolving. Just as he was.
He took one last look at the corpses before vanishing into the night.
The weak, bullied Yun Hao was dead.
A new monster had been born.
What do you think?
