Chapter 38: 38 Get Out
Chapter 38: Chapter 38 Get Out
“Lu Ming, take your wife and get out.”
Lu Yanchuan’s voice rose behind Qiao Yi, and she was also pulled into a warm embrace.
“Uncle, this is all a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding…”
“Get out. I don’t want to say it a third time.”
Lu Yanchuan’s voice was unreadable, but not one person in the room dared to speak against it, except for Lu Ming’s mother.
“Look here, Yanchuan, it’s just a squabble between sisters, why must you take it so seriously? Besides, it’s not a big deal, is it? We’re all family. If you really can’t stand them causing a scene here, just let them go; no need to disturb our Lu Family’s dinner.”
Wang Zhen glared at Qiao Xin with dissatisfaction, then turned around with a smug but insincere smile towards Lu Yanchuan.
The incident from yesterday made her both angry and relieved.
Angry because her son and Qiao Xin had been humiliated and lost all face!
But relieved that the Qiao Family had suffered a huge embarrassment!
Her background was not esteemed, and she used every means possible to become Second Madam Lu, climbing up the social ladder by relying on the child she bore, which made her particularly sensitive about her own family background and status.
Qiao Xin came from the Qiao Family, a background thousands of times more noble than her own. No matter what Qiao Xin did in her presence, Wang Zhen felt Qiao Xin seemed to look down on her with disdain and arrogance.
Now that such an incident had occurred, Wang Zhen wished she could play it on a loop through a loudspeaker at home to vent the resentment she felt suppressed by Qiao Xin.
Not just Qiao Xin, this Qiao Yi wasn’t any good either.
The Lu Family’s eldest sister-in-law was the childhood sweetheart of the eldest brother of the Lu Family; that was not up for judgement.
Among the three daughters-in-law, she was the one with the least distinguished background and the plainest looks. Only her son, Lu Ming, was something to be proud of, yet he was firmly overshadowed by Lu Yanchuan.
How could she not hold a grudge!
Today, seizing the opportunity, she was determined to assert her authority in front of the youngest daughter-in-law, Qiao Yi. Otherwise, she would have no say in this household in the future!
After Wang Zhen had spoken, she looked triumphantly at Lu Yanchuan and Qiao Yi in his arms, waiting to see the Qiao sisters being kicked out, anticipating the satisfaction it would bring.
“Since this is a Lu Family gathering, you, an outsider, can also get lost.”
Old Mr. Lu came down the stairs, his face expressionless as he watched the commotion below.
Wang Zhen’s complexion instantly turned ugly; she dared to show off to Lu Yanchuan and sneer at Qiao Yi and Qiao Xin, but she wouldn’t dare to show displeasure towards Old Mr. Lu, not even if she had the audacity tenfold.
Old Mr. Lu ignored Wang Zhen’s unpleasant expression and walked down to sit next to Qiao Yi on the sofa, calling for someone to bring an ice pack to apply to Qiao Yi.
“Dad…”
“Can’t you hear what Yanchuan said? Get out, and from now on, there’s no need to bring this outsider to Lu Family gatherings!”
Old Mr. Lu glared at Lu Qingshan and Lu Ming, and when neither of them moved, he picked up a bottle from nearby and threw it at them.
“Are you all acting like I’m dead? To raise a hand against your own family in your own home, and you, an elder who not only does nothing to stop it but also scoffs and mocks! I’ve always thought that people from humble backgrounds have their merits, but today I realize I was wrong. With such behavior, don’t bother me again in the future!”
Old Mr. Lu bluntly pointed at Wang Zhen and ordered her out. Wang Zhen’s face turned from green to red, from red to white, changing again and again, but in the end, she still managed to squeeze out a trace of a smile.
“Dad, I was just saying, since we’re about to eat, I didn’t want them to keep disturbing you with their quarreling…”
Old Mr. Lu just looked at Wang Zhen, waiting for her to explain. Under his gaze, Wang Zhen’s voice got quieter and quieter until she finally stopped talking and bowed her head in silence.
“Are the excuses finished?”
Old Mr. Lu harrumphed and glanced over the faces of the few people in the room, his gaze eventually settling on Lu Ming.
“Take your wife and go. When she learns to behave, you can come back.”
Once Old Mr. Lu spoke, everyone’s expression in the room changed instantly, and their looks toward Qiao Yi shifted.
Although Old Mr. Lu didn’t say anything about Qiao Yi directly, which one of his decisions wasn’t protecting Qiao Yi!
Qiao Yi was actually favored by the Old Master like this!
Qiao Yi tugged lightly at the hem of the Old Master’s clothes but ended up getting a tap on the forehead, as if he was annoyed she wasn’t turning out as expected.
Lu Ming left, his face dark and contorted, dragging Qiao Xin with him. The room immediately fell silent, and Old Mr. Lu arranged for Qiao Yi to sit right by his side.
Some enjoyed their meal, others ate with unease, and for some, they couldn’t care less.
Qiao Yi was especially nervous now, especially when the Old Master summoned her alone to the study, making her nearly scared to death.
“What’s there to fear, I won’t eat you.”
Old Mr. Lu deliberately put on a stern face to frighten Qiao Yi. Qiao Yi then went up to him with a ingratiating smile and acted spoiled, which finally made Old Mr. Lu satisfied. He took out a document from the drawer and placed it in front of Qiao Yi.
“Take a look at this.”
Qiao Yi was taken away by Old Mr. Lu, and after the meal, both the eldest of the Lu Family and his wife left as well, leaving only Lu Xiaohua and Lu Qingshan as a couple.
Wang Zhen could not calm her anger. She did not dare to confront Old Mr. Lu. No matter how compliant Lu Qingshan was to her, when it came to treating Old Mr. Lu, Lu Qingshan had never changed his attitude.
Unable to vent at Old Mr. Lu, Wang Zhen sat there muttering under her breath, both about how Qiao Yi was this and that, and how Qiao Xin was so and so, which was annoying to listen to.
Lu Xiaohua disliked Wang Zhen’s personality the most, who was an opportunist and a bully toward the weak but timid with the strong. Given that Lu Qingshan wouldn’t leave Wang Zhen, this made her even more smug.
“Sister-in-law, if you’ve got the time, you might as well get more beauty treatments at my salon. It’ll save you from getting so angry all the time and aging quickly.”
Wang Zhen was taken aback, then turned to glare at Lu Xiaohua.
“Eldest sister, what do you mean by that!”
“Isn’t it clear? I’m saying you should stop nagging about this nonsense. If you’re capable, say these things in front of Qiao Yi. If you’re not, then just hold it in. Even children know it’s ill-mannered to gossip behind people’s backs.”
Wang Zhen never wanted to hear about breeding or education, and the mention of these inevitably set her off.
“Lu Xiaohua, who do you think you are! Why are you lecturing me!”
“I’m doing so simply because I’m Lu Qingshan’s eldest sister. If you dare to be so outrageous in the Lu Family again, don’t blame me for turning my back on you!”
While the two women were about to come to blows, over there Lu Qingshan and Lu Yanchuan acted as if they saw nothing.
After all, such events had happened too often. These two naturally didn’t get along, clashing every time they met, with squabbles as a given and brawls quite possible; they were used to it.
The argument between Wang Zhen and Lu Xiaohua ended when Lu Xiaohua’s phone rang. She answered the call and left, leaving Wang Zhen alone, still fuming.
What do you think?
