Chapter 48: 48: Signing the Contract
Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Signing the Contract
Qiao Yi was called back to the Qiao Family the moment she returned to the country.
“What’s this about the unusual capital movement? When did this happen? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
Qiao Yi had already mentioned this matter to Qiao Benqing while she was in country F.
The last clue ended in country F, she had even gone to investigate in person but came up empty, and now she could only hand this troublesome matter over to Qiao Benqing to worry about himself.
Qiao Yi reiterated everything she knew to Qiao Benqing, stressing that she had only become aware of the issue after the event occurred.
“The reason I didn’t tell you sooner was that I was afraid that investigating too publicly might tip them off. But it seems they’ve caught wind of it now, which is why they pulled out of country F before I arrived.”
Qiao Benqing naturally knew that Qiao Yi wouldn’t conceal something like this from him, and there was no need for her to hide anything, so he believed her.
“Well, I’ll have someone keep an eye on this matter, but it serves as a reminder to us that we must be more careful with financial expenditures to avoid such problems in the future!”
Qiao Benqing had seasoned experience in business; a minor issue like this wouldn’t disturb him, but what truly mattered was another concern.
“The old city harbor project in Tian City has already been bid on, and Longjia and Tengxin actually used other companies to press down the price! If it weren’t for Yanchuan helping, this project would have failed!”
As Qiao Benqing spoke, his anger flared. The Sun Family was truly despicable; though malicious competition wasn’t uncommon in business, the Sun Family always tried to manipulate things from behind the scenes, pushing forward companies that couldn’t stand on their own to cause trouble!
Qiao Yi knew that Qiao Benqing wasn’t asking for advice, so she simply sat there, listening to his complaints, waiting for him to assign her the tasks.
“Three days later is the formal contract signing ceremony. The harbor project was initially secured under your name, so you will be the one facing Longjia and Tengxin for the signing. I get angry just thinking about those two companies!”
Of course, his current anger was to prepare for even more severe revenge later.
Qiao Yi agreed; signing a contract wasn’t difficult.
The reason Qiao Benqing wanted her to represent them was clear: the position Qiao Family held was nominal, and anyone seeing her involvement would know it was a role that involved collecting money without working.
Having Qiao Yi sign the contract was a way to repay the Sun Family for their attitude towards the Qiao Family.
Since the Sun Family was not sincere in cooperating with the Qiao Family, there was no reason for the Qiao Family to treat them seriously; a prominent idler was the perfect response.
After discussing the company affairs, Qiao Yi recalled what Qiao Xin had said during a dispute in country F.
“Dad, are you really planning to send Qiao Xin to work as Lu Ming’s assistant at Lu Group?”
“Yes, is there a problem?”
Qiao Yi bit her lip, not knowing how to respond.
When Qiao Xin and Lu Ming get together, wouldn’t that mean constant storms at Lu Group, potentially ruining it?
Besides, Qiao Xin was never someone interested in working properly.
She was initially reluctant to work, let alone work with Lu Ming.
“The Qiao Family and Lu Family have been allies for generations. You and Yanchuan are currently on good terms, but it’s always good to be prepared for a change of fortune. Having Xinxin stay at Lu Group gives us a card to play anytime.”
Qiao Yi found it amusing inside as she looked at Qiao Benqing; her father wasn’t unaware of Qiao Xin’s nature—sending her to Lu Group was essentially introducing a calamity there, causing trouble for Lu Group without lifting a finger.
“What are you thinking—am I that sort of person?”
Qiao Benqing tapped her on the head, and Qiao Yi chuckled without a word, but her expression said everything.
“The more important reason I’m sending her to Lu Group is to foster a relationship between Xinxin and Lu Ming; their relationship seems a bit odd.”
Of course it’s odd, they aren’t like a couple living a married life.
Lu Ming only cared about the Lu Group shares Qiao Xin held, while Qiao Xin wished to offload Lu Ming, hoping to marry Lu Yanchuan instead.
With such intentions, how could the two of them live peacefully?
After talking a while, Zhao Wenjing knocked on the door, inviting them to come downstairs for a meal.
As soon as she descended the stairs, Qiao Yi saw Lu Yanchuan sitting on the sofa.
“Why are you here? Didn’t I say I wasn’t going back tonight?”
Sometimes this man was unexpectedly clingy, making him hard to endure.
It wasn’t that his manner was off, but the way Lu Yanchuan had to follow wherever Qiao Yi went left her speechless.
“Dad said to have you come back tonight.”
“Or else you wouldn’t have?” If you missed me, just say so; why use an elder as your shield? I wouldn’t refuse to go with you.”
Qiao Yi looked at Lu Yanchuan half-smiling, as if seeing right through his heart.
Lu Yanchuan frowned, hesitated a moment, but ultimately said nothing.
Although indeed sent by Old Mr. Lu, a few words from the old man weren’t enough to make Lu Yanchuan drop his pride and come to the Qiao Family to fetch someone.
With nothing more to say, as everybody seemed pleased, they finished their meal and Qiao Yi was ushered into Lu Yanchuan’s car.
“Why couldn’t you just stay home instead of coming to fetch me?”
Qiao Yi complained. She hadn’t even had a chance to talk properly with Zhao Wenjing before she was whisked away.
“Did your father-in-law assign you to handle the signing ceremony?”
“Yes, dad just told me; how did you know?”
Qiao Yi almost thought Lu Yanchuan was psychic—but then she remembered this project involved both Qiao Benqing and Lu Yanchuan, so it wasn’t strange he knew of the arrangements.
“Be extra cautious during the signing; I always feel the Sun Family isn’t up to any good and won’t easily sign the contract.”
In fact, Qiao Benqing had been too hasty in handling this project.
Or rather, Qiao Xin shouldn’t have taken on this project, putting Qiao Family in its current predicament.
Having nothing more to say, Qiao Yi nodded as an agreement.
The car drove back to the Lu Mansion; by that time, Qiao Yi thought Old Mr. Lu would have already been resting.
“Dad, it’s so late; why haven’t you gone to sleep yet?”
Qiao Yi welcomed him and helped Old Mr. Lu inside the house, and he laughed, holding her hand. However, Qiao Yi noticed Old Mr. Lu continually glanced at her stomach, making her very uncomfortable.
What do you think?
