Chapter 59: Chapter 59 Fireworks Display
Three exhausted women had enough fun and returned to sit under the big tree to drink tea.
“Lu Yanchuan isn’t someone I brought with me; he followed on his own, nothing to do with me.”
Qiao Yi pouted her lips. She didn’t want to bring Lu Yanchuan either, but he insisted on coming, and she couldn’t just tie him up at home.
Her reason wasn’t accepted, so Feng Siyu prepared to call her own family over.
The only one left without family to call upon, Han Lewen, loudly bemoaned the unfairness.
“If you find it unfair, go find a partner then!”
Feng Siyu and Han Lewen would start bickering the moment they met; after a few words, the two of them were at it again.
Qiao Yi couldn’t be bothered to break up the fight; after all, it would be over shortly.
The three chatted and drank tea until later when, somehow, Gu Ting started playing a game of Go with Lu Yanchuan.
Qiao Yi could play Go but didn’t like it. Feng Siyu stood behind her partner, cheering non-stop, while Han Lewen, whom she clashed with, was jumping up and down cheering for Lu Yanchuan; the yard was as bustling as a food market.
Qiao Xin, who had left for no apparent reason, returned just as mysteriously with Lu Ming.
During the joyous times, some unwelcome people arrived, which really annoyed Qiao Yi.
Although Qiao Yi was irritated, she had no reason to drive them away; the only option was to drag the party-breaking group to visit the night market.
Because of today’s fireworks extravaganza, the southern suburbs had opened a special street as the night market, which was bustling with a variety of food and fun.
Qiao Yi and the others were accustomed to such places, only Lu Yanchuan seemed out of place here.
Dressed casually, Lu Yanchuan appeared significantly younger than when he’s in his suit and shoes, but even in the crowd, he was still the center of attention.
Gu Ting, next to him, seemed more approachable, but seeing Feng Siyu wanting to try this and that, he stayed stern-faced and didn’t allow it.
Walking along the snack street, the group looked like parents taking their three daughters out for fun.
Startled by her own wild thoughts, Qiao Yi quickly shook her head to cast away the terrifying idea.
“What’s wrong? Headache?”
The voice was Lu Yanchuan’s. Qiao Yi turned her head abruptly, only to bump it right into Lu Yanchuan’s shoulder, causing tears to spring out from the pain.
She was in such pain, yet Lu Yanchuan was actually laughing!
Qiao Yi, holding her nose, grunted and moved forward, but after a few steps, her dangling hand was caught by a warm, large hand.
“It’s crowded here, stick with me.”
Qiao Yi struggled for a bit before letting Lu Yanchuan lead her, her cheeks unknowingly flushed, whether from the pain or some other reason.
The night market was not too big or small. They took a round trip and by the time they came back, it was already dark. Seeing that it was about time, Qiao Yi took snacks meant for Old Mr. Ding back to the Ding Family courtyard.
Although Old Mr. Ding didn’t eat those outside snacks, it couldn’t stop Qiao Yi’s desire to share with him. She deliberately ate two skewers in front of the old man until he sent her out, then she felt relieved all over.
Qiao Xin and Lu Ming were still waiting at the Ding Family’s place, and no one knew what they were waiting for.
When the last light of the day had faded, Qiao Yi and her group finally arrived at the venue. With Qiao Yi leading, they found the best spot to watch the fireworks.
Having not attended the Fireworks Association’s event in two years, they didn’t even need an open flame to light the fireworks now; a small remote control was all it took.
Old Mr. Ding handed the remote control to Qiao Yi and after telling her when to ignite, he left for his spot.
He was supposed to sit on the podium, although Old Mr. Ding would have preferred to sit with these children.
On the podium, Old Mr. Ding’s successor was giving a passionate speech, while Qiao Yi and a few others had already started to study the remote controls in their hands.
This remote had two buttons; the yellow button on top was for starting the fireworks show, and the black button below was for that huge firework Qiao Yi had seen.
Qiao Yi timed it perfectly, pressing the button at the stroke of eight o’clock.
“Bang—”
“Bang—”
Two massive fireworks marked the opening of the fireworks extravaganza.
With only the sound of fireworks exploding in her ears, Qiao Yi could faintly hear Feng Siyu’s screams and Han Lewen’s laughter.
Above her, a myriad of fireworks burst into various shapes and colors in the sky, romantic and dazzling. Despite watching the show for many years, every time Qiao Yi watched the fireworks, she felt incredibly happy and romantic.
Qiao Yi was watching the fireworks, while Lu Yanchuan was watching Qiao Yi.
The small woman sitting in front of him had sparkling eyes and a blissful face as she supported her chin and gazed at the fireworks above. From her hair, one could discern her joy.
Do you like fireworks that much?
Fireworks are beautiful, but they are also fleeting; a fireworks show lasts only about half an hour.
The show featured almost all of the new firework designs that appeared this year. Qiao Yi has been watching fireworks shows for over ten years and had never seen any repetition.
After the final firework, in the shape of a rose, bloom, the fireworks show ended.
The Fireworks Association organized this show; next up was the showcase time for these fireworks vendors.
Qiao Yi intently watched the various fireworks exploding in the sky, sometimes being amused enough to laugh.
“We can set off our own fireworks later, let’s go too!”
Feng Siyu’s face was flushed; she surely was up to no good while watching the fireworks!
Looking at Gu Ting next to her, laughing with a mischievous air, Qiao Yi twisted Feng Siyu’s arm in a reproachful manner—friends truly are like water that has been poured away once married!
In contrast, Han Lewen was much better behaved, eagerly pulling Qiao Yi to go find something fun.
“No, we have to wait until I set off the final firework before we can go have fun; otherwise, even if you get the fireworks in your hands now, you can’t set them off.”
Only after the official program was over could visitors freely enjoy themselves.
The square where the big fireworks were set was the place where they could set off fireworks.
Only a few vendors were selected to display their products. Qiao Yi particularly liked a straight-barreled cannon that would shoot up into the sky and explode into a sky full of pink stars—a rough yet girlish combination, bewildering and mesmerizing.
After a patient twenty-minute wait, the final part arrived, and Qiao Yi even stood up on tiptoe to look towards where the large firework was placed.
Lu Yanchuan reached out and pulled Qiao Yi into his embrace.
Although there was a waist-high fence in front, given Qiao Yi’s excitement, it was hard to ensure she wouldn’t fall down. Despite the height was equal to that of a person, falling would likely not be fatal, but a broken arm or leg wasn’t anything serious.
Qiao Yi sat on Lu Yanchuan’s lap and squirmed, feeling uneasy trying to stand up from his embrace, but the arm around her waist held her tightly, making it impossible for her to break free.
“Let me go right now…”
Qiao Yi’s words were cut short by Lu Yanchuan, who took her hand and pressed it along with his onto the black button.
“The time’s come, why not light the firework now?”
What do you think?
