Chapter 71: Chapter 71 Unrelated to You
Gong Ting couldn’t wait to pick up the document and flip through it, scanning it back and forth several times, yet she found no mention of share ownership at all.
“This can’t be possible! How can this be?!”
Gong Ting couldn’t accept this outcome!
To get the 10 percent of the shares held by Old Madam Gong, she had attended to the old lady like a maid for two whole years, and now she had even offended the Qiao Family and the Lu Family to get the shares!
But the truth was telling her that Old Madam Gong had no shares at all!
Her two years of slaving away, her painstaking plots—all for naught!
How could she accept this! She simply couldn’t accept it!
“You lied to me! You must be lying to me! You did it just to save her! If I can’t have peace, neither can you!”
Gong Ting, her eyes bloodshot, ripped the document to shreds, and with the ring she clenched in her hand, slashed towards Qiao Yi’s face.
“Ah!”
The scream did not come from Qiao Yi, but from Gong Ting, who was kicked far away by Qiao Yi’s sudden flying kick.
Qiao Yi’s leg almost reached her ear side, the whoosh of it connecting with the face of the person controlling her.
The man in black recoiled in pain, releasing Qiao Yi’s hand, and Qiao Yi took the opportunity to headbutt the other side, right onto another person’s nose.
As Qiao Yi made her move, Lu Yanchuan also charged over.
The fight in the corridor erupted in an instant, and by the time Gong Ting finally managed to get back on her feet, Qiao Yi, alongside Lu Yanchuan, had taken down all the men in black in the hallway.
Although Qiao Yi was dissatisfied with Lu Yanchuan’s earlier hesitation, now was not the time to settle scores with him.
Gong Ting, who had been heavily kicked by Qiao Yi just a moment ago, leaned against the wall with a pained, pale face, but Qiao Yi felt that her pallor was more because of the shares.
“Lu Yanchuan! Aren’t you being too greedy? Having the Lu Group isn’t enough for you, you want the Gong Family’s shares too? Isn’t this overstepping?!”
Gong Ting seemed to have decided that the document Lu Yanchuan showed her was a forgery he concocted himself, she angrily pointed at Lu Yanchuan, completely forgetting her recent fear of him.
Under the influence of desire, even the weakest person can muster desperate courage.
Just like Gong Ting, she dared to look Lu Yanchuan in the eye and questioned him loudly.
Qiao Yi admired Gong Ting’s courage but had no confidence in her intelligence. Regardless of whether the document Lu Yanchuan gave her was real or fake, Gong Ting was destined to be the loser.
Seeing that neither Qiao Yi nor Lu Yanchuan spoke, Gong Ting became more convinced she had guessed the truth, pointing at Lu Yanchuan and about to curse further, when suddenly a stern voice from the other end of the hallway scolded her.
“Gong Ting! Shut your mouth!”
Qiao Yi looked towards the newcomer, only to see a middle-aged man about the same age as Qiao Benqing approach, who slapped Gong Ting across the face.
“Dad! You hit me!”
“Shut your mouth! Go back home now, and don’t you dare step outside again!”
Gong Zhe, followed by his assistant who was completely indifferent to Gong Ting’s indignation and resentment, pulled Gong Ting away.
Qiao Yi relaxed her guard; this man was likely the Gong Family Head, Gong Ting’s father, Gong Zhe.
Gong Zhe completely ignored the men in black who were strewn across the ground groaning and turned to Lu Yanchuan with a smile plastered on his face.
“Mr. Lu, your visit to Tian City this time—why didn’t you give a heads up so I could have made arrangements for you? Staying here is really improper!”
“No need.”
Lu Yanchuan had no intention whatsoever to save face for him and turned to pull Qiao Yi back to their room.
Just before stepping into their room, Lu Yanchuan paused.
“Mr. Gong, I do not want to see anyone from the Gong Family around the teacher again. Also, regarding today’s incident, the Gong Family needs to give me an explanation.”
After finishing his sentence, Lu Yanchuan closed the door with a backward motion.
Qiao Yi, who had entered the room before Lu Yanchuan, heard what he said. However, she was still preoccupied with the recent events and didn’t feel like paying any attention to Lu Yanchuan.
Her face was swollen and uncomfortable. Qiao Yi looked at herself in the bathroom mirror and deeply regretted messing around for no reason – that slap hurt like hell!
Touching her face and wincing with pain, Qiao Yi couldn’t help but take a sharp inhale.
Gong Ting really hit hard; if there had been another slap, Qiao Yi reckoned she would have lost a molar!
“Hey, hey, hey! What are you doing?!”
Qiao Yi was dragged out of the bathroom by the arm and pushed onto the sofa.
An ice pack was pressed against her face in a not-so-gentle manner, and Qiao Yi glared at Lu Yanchuan through her pain.
Hadn’t he just been hesitating whether to save her or not? Why was he now trying to tend to her wounds?
Jerk!
“I didn’t plan on not saving you just now.”
“Hmm?”
Qiao Yi snorted and still didn’t want to speak. After examining her, Lu Yanchuan found that Qiao Yi only had a facial injury and then put away the medical kit.
“I was wondering whether the teacher had any shares in the Gong Family.”
Qiao Yi was somewhat stunned. Was Lu Yanchuan explaining himself to her?
Lu Yanchuan, squatting in front of her, directed his gaze to her face and furrowed his brows slightly. A hint of unpleasant emotion flickered through his dark eyes.
“You don’t need to explain. It doesn’t matter to me if you would choose shares over saving me; Gong Ting can’t really hurt me.”
After speaking those words, Qiao Yi immediately regretted them. That wasn’t what she meant to say at all!
The atmosphere became instantly tense. Qiao Yi tilted her head away, refusing to look at Lu Yanchuan, who was pursing his lips in thought, his gaze remaining fixed on Qiao Yi’s face without moving.
“That’s it, go on with your business.”
Unable to bear the tension any longer, Qiao Yi pushed away Lu Yanchuan’s hand and stood up, heading towards the bathroom.
“I wouldn’t not save you because of the shares.”
Qiao Yi didn’t know whether she should feel touched or angry. Maybe it was the pain in her face that caused the irritation, or perhaps it was something else that made her unable to suppress the sudden burst of anger.
“Listen up, Lu Yanchuan, I, Qiao Yi, do not need your rescue. Regardless of the reason, if I can save myself it’s because of my good luck; if I can’t, it’s my own fault. Whether I live or die, it has nothing to do with you… mmph…”
Qiao Yi’s hands were pounding against Lu Yanchuan’s arms, unable to push his body away. Angered, she bit down on Lu Yanchuan’s tongue hard, and immediately a metallic taste spread in both of their mouths.
“This won’t happen again.”
Lu Yanchuan’s hands gently touched Qiao Yi’s face, as if afraid of causing her more pain.
Qiao Yi fell silent, her outburst leaving her with nothing but emptiness and fatigue.
Listening to Lu Yanchuan’s enigmatic words, she nonchalantly acknowledged with a hum and pushed away from his embrace, turning to walk into the bathroom.
By the time Qiao Yi came out of the bathroom, Lu Yanchuan had already left. There was medicine and a note on the table, in Lu Yanchuan’s typical tone.
“Remember to apply the medicine. The teacher is seriously ill, no need to wait for me.”
“Who’s waiting for you…”
Qiao Yi crumpled the note in her hand and threw it into the trash can, then aimlessly scrolled through her phone for a while. Suddenly, as if she had lost her mind, she retrieved the note from the trash, folded it neatly, and tucked it into the case of her phone.
What do you think?
