Chapter 280 Three heads, One Opinion that Matters

PoV Base Commander Britten Beans

I rubbed my soft nose again, something that I had found I'd been doing more and more often lately, and it was starting to hurt my nose. Today was the meeting with The two Elders about what they wanted from the Damn Logistics army that was running somehow at better efficiency than was possible. I had a long time ago when the Supreme Commander first took over Border City and around my promotion asked, What the hell was I supposed to do if they asked me to do the impossible?

The Supreme Commander sent very direct orders, and I was now in the lovely place to enforce them.

Do what you need to do to keep them off our backs. Make it their issue, but we will not do what we cannot. Good Luck, Base Commander.

Simple and to the point. I would not push for the impossible. I would do what I could, and for the rest, I would push off the Logistics Army. That is why I felt distinct anxiety when a tall, black, scaled Dragonic true blood walked in with black armor on from the Blackscale Dragonics. "Greetings, Base Commander Britten Beans; I am Elder Blackscale the second. I am here to-"

"I am sorry, Elder. We are not going to start the meeting without everyone present." I cut him off before he could get started, praying to God the other representative would be here soon with a Dragonic Elder already present. I was not even a B ranker; I just told an A ranker to shut up and wait basically without anyone else in the room.

The Elders body twitched in surprise, then embarrassment; then I could tell he was pissed.

"Ah, Elder Blackscale the Second, sending the less intelligent of the two," an old Bunny-kin walked in with a smile. The power I could feel emanating from the two elders was something that I could not take very well, and I winced in pain.

"Gentlemen, I am unfortunately not strong enough for you two to start things in this room. Can we please put that aside right now?" I asked bluntly. Both turned to me, and the Elderly Bunny-kin nodded.

"Aye, I can do that, Base Commander Britten Beans. I do have to wonder what brings us to a meeting today."

"Pressure," I said bluntly, "Pressure from the Dragonic and the Bunny-kin from time to time," I continued, looking between the two men and pointing at the chairs before my desk. Both looked surprised because there was no table discussion. It looked like two subordinates were listening to their boss as I sat down behind my desk, and they were before me. Both took a seat, and I smiled, "So, I brought you both here because my Coolies and various parts of our Army seemed to have been getting threats from the general population," I said slowly, "Threats that frankly are worrying. We have been discovering various people trying to sabotage our facilities already and are on high alert to threats." Find your next read on My Virtual Library Empire

"That is not good," the Bunny-kin Elder said, his voice sounding serious. Do you happen to have names?"

"Not at this time; we honestly do not have the resources. But I do know this is a top-down problem from the City and the Dragonic. Especially the Dragonic," I said, turning to Elder Blackscale, "Your people in the areas where the Logistics army works in your tribe land and making roads have received especially bad harassment for not supporting our troops for a push deeper into the Empire. It has even made it to my ears that recruitment to the Logistics Army is slowing because of the harassment witnessed by the general population."

"Why the hell should we care about your shitty armies recruitment numbers!" Elder Blackscale snapped at me, and I winced. The table cracked, and there was power in that shout. I shivered a little in my core but knew I could not back down here, and I turned to ward the elder.

"Because you are a fucking moron," I told him slowly and watched as the Elder turned red in the face, but I knew I had to continue, or the Supreme Commander might back me up, but I would already be dead before she could act. So I stood as he was getting ready to yell at me, and I pointed at him, "YOU WANT THE ARMY TO MOVE UP!?" I asked, demanding him, and I could see the anger change to surprise as I yelled at him. "You want to move deeper into the Empire's territory?!" I yelled, quickly following up. "DO YOU HAVE A SINGLE FUCKING IDEA WHAT WE NEED TO DO THAT?!" I demanded.

"W- Wha-" The Dragonic Elder was caught off the foot, and the Bunny-kin Elder looked amused.

"Please, Base Commander Britten Beans, what do we need to push deeper into the Empire," The Bunny-kin elder asked, earning him a glare from the Dragonic Elder.

"I need FIFTY THOUSAND MORE PAIRS OF HANDS!" I snapped, "Then I need to educate those pairs of hands-on how to do their job. Then, I needed them to make me an additional three hundred warehouses and houses along the road toward the Empire. I need the same along the roads to the Dwarven Kingdome and the Elven Forest while doing the same toward the damn Demon lands. What do I need the extra two roads for?!" I asked them, "I need those to facilitate FOOD transfers between our nations and merchants to move between us so we can PAY for the food that our army is using to eat in the Empire."

"Just use the Human's food!" Elder Blackscale snapped, and I could see that the Bunny-kin Elder was thinking along the same line but was smart enough to keep their mouth shut as I turned toward the Dragonic elder.

"How long do you think that will last?!" I snapped. Seriously, there was only so much food, and we had to move before they could collect all their food! Sure, we took some, but we paid for a lot more so that the Humans wouldn't resent us leading them."

"BAH~!" The elder shouted, "Stop being soft and let the humans starve!"@@novelbin@@

"Is he serious?" Turning to the Bunny-kin Elder, I asked, "Does he realize what that might mean? Or is he just THIS FUCKING STUPID?" I demanded, and I saw both the Elders look at me blankly. "You seriously don't realize why that is so stupid, do you?"

"Base Commander Britten Beans," the Bunny-kin Elder said slowly, "Please enlighten me on why you think it would be bad to leave them starving as we take their food and move forward."

"I can't believe I have to even answer this, but let's take the death toll and everything like that out of the equation and just talk about just what will happen when you leave about a half million plus people and take them off all their food then leave a WASTELAND behind you because that is what you are asking me to do. First of all, Making roads would become harder, making matience harder as well. Then, Water wells would most likely be spiked with poison by the people that we pushed through. All of this means there is no labor that will be willing to work those roads. A lot of the people in the Empire are now helping us build roads to combat their own country. Did you know that?" I asked bluntly.

"I did not,' The Bunny-kin Elder said.

"Now, we would more than ever need to ship food up to the front anyway because there is nothing to feed them after what they did behind them. AND GUESS WHAT BECOMES EVERYONE'S TARGET!" I snapped my arms wide.

"Our Carraiges and wagons."

"To make it even worse, Every charge from those humans will be to death because of mass starvation, and they are just trying to feed their kids, wives, lovers, or parents. They will do anything to get our food and will hunt us in the back lines, which means we will have to protect those carriages and wagons from the rebels trying to eat. Then, we have to bring part of the main army back to defend the wagons and carts, taking strength away from the front in order to defend the back, which is what the Elite Army is doing and doing a good job right now. So!" I stopped and looked at both of them. "Does it make sense why we chose the route that we chose?"

"I feel informed," The Bunny-kin Elder said slowly.

"Your rudeness will be sent to your superior.

"Frankly, Fuck off, Elder Blackscale. I do not care about your opinion because the Supreme Commander does not care about you. Your people have stayed back and contributed little, even though you are one of the largest tribes. The Bunny-kin deserves my respect, but you do not," I snapped at him, and he turned on me. I felt the mana around me tighten, and I could not breathe for a moment before the Elder Bunny-kin reached out and pulled the Dragonic Elder off me.

"Keep that to yourself, Little one," the Elder Bunny-kin said. Elder Blackscale, you shall leave with me now. You and I will discuss you laying hands on a direct subordinate of a Loveknot."

Suddenly, I was alone in the room, and I fell to the floor, gasping for air. I cursed the Dragonic Bastard Blackscale. Hopefully, one day, I will be able to get him back for this.

"Honey," I said, my voice huskier than normal. Bring in the leaders of all the base divisions. We need to chat. Set up the meeting for four days from now." I rasped, and I heard my wife acknowledge it. I took a couple of minutes to get up, sit behind my desk again, and breathe slowly.

I stopped and thought about the plans I read that the Supreme Commander made and nodded to myself. To my knowledge, we are on track to complete the mission. I wonder what that fucking Blackscale asshole will think once that is done?

My report to the Supreme Commander about this meeting was going to be scathing toward the Dragonic. He clearly thought that he could demand things from me in some respects. It was something that had grown increasingly obvious. There was a problem with the way the Dragonic were thinking, though. The logistics army was funded by the Bunny-kin tribe, with some from other small tribes, such as the Cat-kin and Dog-kin tribes. At the same time, we had no ties to the Dragonic at all. There were three Dragonics in the entire Army at this point. Each was a 'defector' from the tribe, pissed that they were not allowed to the front.

Each of them was competent and educated before they arrived in our ranks, too. Which meant what we all thought it meant, and we shit shuffled them into positions where we could limit their information-gathering abilities while using their education to our advantage. But I knew that with the plans the Supreme Commander had, this was going to be a problem that would grow slowly or extremely quickly. The Dragonic were now starting to realize just how much power the Logistics army had over the entire war.

That could be good or bad, Bad as they are now paying attention to us and are becoming a pain in my ass. But the good thing is that they might realize just how desperate we are for gold to trade with and open up that FUCKING Treasury of theirs. That would change a lot. I would even be able to trade with the Kingdom or Arlin for some very specific purchases on which they increased the cost.

I grinned but shook my head. The plan was in place, deveations will complicate things. Let them keep the treasury closed; it will hurt them in the long run and help the Supreme Commander more.
