Chapter 261 254 Alien Residents of Ruyi City
```
Ruyi City began to resemble a universal metropolis even more after the return of the Sacred Falcon. The over four thousand aliens brought back by Bai Zhongqi added a variety of intelligent life forms to the area.
Many Earthlings visiting Ruyi City would whip out their smartphones to take pictures upon seeing Feiju and horse-faced aliens on the streets, some even boldly approaching them for a chat and a photo.
The Feiju in particular, with their cat ears and tails, were extremely popular. They were inherently adorable, and their image aligned with a certain cuteness factor already present on Earth. In Neon Country, designated as Earth's 11th administrative region, many otaku rushed to buy boat tickets to Ruyi City upon hearing that catgirls from the universe had appeared, eager to have close encounters with them.
Bells and Walnuts, dressed in Earth girls' attire, strolled the streets of Ruyi City. It had been a week since they arrived in the city, planning to join the Universe Army, they were currently attending theoretical classes, so they had quite a bit of spare time.
As girls, they quickly became enamored with shopping in the commercial districts of Ruyi City. The city had expanded many times over since its opening, and the commercial streets were filled with various consumer goods from Earth. Although the local population wasn't huge, because the welfare standards of the Star Alliance were implemented here, everyone had an ample amount of Star Alliance Currency to purchase whatever they wanted.
In cities like Ruyi City, there was no such thing as people working nine to five, slaving away in overtime, only to earn money that hardly covered rent and daily necessities. The residents of Ruyi City lived in upscale apartments, enjoyed a variety of gourmet foods with no repetition for a month, could buy dozens or hundreds of clothing items, and could afford to change their smartphones every month if they wished.
Behind this rapid and large-scale consumption was the productive capacity technology of Iridium Star. People could own more items, but the space they had was limited, so they would often be required to eliminate things they no longer used. The recycling institutions of Iridium Star would then collect these discarded items and break them down into various materials to remake new products.
In fact, after getting used to this lifestyle, most Iridium Star inhabitants didn't engage in frenzied shopping followed by wastage. Once the joy of possession was exhausted, they began to sensibly purchase daily necessities based on their needs, much like how on Earth someone who suddenly came into wealth would, after some time, find it hard to spend money, with their desire for shopping and the thrill of it diminishing.@@novelbin@@
Earthlings had yet to wean off such excitement, and neither had the newly-arrived Bells and Walnuts. After the initial relief of not having to fear being eaten or forcefully manhandled, they encountered an extremely high standard of material life. Discovering that Earth females had so many clothing options, their love of beauty exploded, making them part of the sweeping army of shoppers terrorizing the malls.
"I'm tired from all this strolling. We have class tomorrow. I wish we could just drop everything and enjoy ourselves," Bells made a silly face.
Walnuts also felt that their life was a bit too dazzling and beyond imagination. She said, "It feels somewhat shameful to live like this, being able to eat whatever we want, buy whatever we wish in this beautiful city without having done much."
Bells pulled Walnuts along and said, "Well, that's just how people of the Star Alliance live."
"That's not the case. The Star Alliance's standard of living hasn't been fully implemented on Earth yet. Right now, the Star Alliance is devoting a lot of energy to resisting the invasion of the Teizene. If it weren't for the trouble caused by the Teizene, Earth would probably enter the full Star Alliance welfare standards more quickly."
Bells, irritated, brandished her fists and said, "That's why those lizards from Teizene are the worst, they won't even spare the kind-hearted. Everyone on Earth is also very nice, and they treat us well, just like they do with the Feiju."
Walnuts still spoke to Bells more seriously: "On the whole, Earthlings are kind-hearted and have moral standards, and the Star Alliance has its laws. But we must not let our guard down against the possibility of bad people; every civilization has its share of good and bad. It seems our image as Feiju is deeply associated with sexuality in Earth's culture, so we need to be careful not to be taken advantage of."
Bells giggled, struck a martial arts pose, and said, "No way, even if someone wanted to pick on me, my fighting skills would make them regret it."
She grabbed Walnuts' arm and said, "I'm worn out from the shopping. Let's go have some ice cream."
Sweets brightened Walnut's eyes too. Earth's civilization might not have been rated highly before Iridium Star's boost, but its culture was incredibly vibrant. Earthlings had created a variety of delicacies, and the two little catgirls fell in love with ice cream as soon as they tried it.
There were many coffee shops and dessert places on the commercial street, and they picked one they hadn't been to before. The décor in most places in the commercial streets was very Earth-like, without too much of the minimalist style typical of Iridium Star, and the dessert shop they chose had a quaint, wooden interior.
After they entered the shop and ordered, Bells nudged Walnuts and pointed toward a corner, asking, "Isn't that Bibilin over there?"
Walnuts couldn't help but smile wryly, "Ah, it's really hard to tell with people from Bupinga, I don't know, how can you tell it's Bibilin?"
"Because of the tendril that grows on Bibilin's butt, it seems to tilt to the right a bit. He always winds that tendril around."
Walnuts said, "That does seem to be him, then."
Bibilin was a friend the two girls had made on the spaceship. Despite being from different species, the Bupinga were genuinely innocent, albeit looking a bit lecherous.
Bells and Walnuts approached him and greeted, "Bibilin, you're here too."
```
A tentacle from the Gaotian extended, revealing an eye-like organ, which saw Lingling and Walnut. Below the eye, an organ resembling a mouth stretched into a smile, giving an eerie, otherworldly impression.
"Ah, Miss Lingling, Miss Walnut, hello," Bibilin greeted as well.
Walnut asked, "Why are you sitting here in this corner?"
Bibilin responded with some helplessness, "It seems that people here are quite scared of me. Once, walking down the street, I even frightened a child to tears. Some people treat me like a monster. I dare not venture under the sunlight, but the ice cream here is simply irresistible—a masterpiece of Earth's people. So I come when it's less crowded, and wait for everyone to leave before I do."
The two cat-girls felt sorry for the Gaotian. They exchanged glances and sat next to Bibilin. Walnut said, "Let's keep you company for a while."
Bibilin shook his tentacles awkwardly, "No, no, I don't want to impose."
Lingling, showing her small tiger teeth, giggled, "We have nothing else to do anyway. By the way, Bibilin, did you start working at the Industrial Bureau?"
Bibilin's tentacles again formed a "smile" as he replied, "Yes, most of my kind have entered the Industrial Bureau and similar manufacturing sectors. I really love my current job. Haha, perhaps many of the things you use every day are manufactured under my supervision."
As Bibilin spoke, another tentacle opened its mouth-like organ like a scene from a horror movie and took a large bite out of an ice cream on the table, then spoke with satisfaction, "The manufacturing capabilities of Iridium Star are truly super powerful. It's definitely on the level of high civilizations, with atomic precision in its composition. But for now, I can only handle some of the more basic work; my knowledge is still lacking. I hope that in the future, I can design and create different things that will benefit everyone."
Lingling encouragingly patted one of Bibilin's tentacles—although it felt strange, slippery with a layer of stiff hair. She said, "Right now, everyone just doesn't understand you yet. Once they get to know the Gaotians, you won't be treated like a monster anymore."
Bibilin nodded his "head," "Thank you, Miss Lingling. Actually, it's already much better than when we were slaves. Back then, every time a tentacle grew, the Teizenes would chop it off, and we had to endure very tough work. Now we have our freedom and our own homes; it's just a little prejudice, nothing serious."
Bibilin then asked, "Ladies, are you going to join the Universe Army and bravely fight for the people of the Star Alliance? That's truly admirable."
Lingling blushed with modesty, "Actually, I'm not very useful. I'm still taking classes; the things I have to learn are so difficult. I'm not sure if I'll be able to help everyone in the future."
Bibilin also encouraged her, "You definitely will. The people from Bupinga are studying too, aren't they? Earth's technology level is high, and they have their own systems. Even those experienced with cosmic navigation must learn new things, so Miss Lingling certainly can too."
Despite being in a corner, this table drew the attention of others in the store because of the presence of two beautiful cat-girls. A young couple approached them, admiring Lingling and Walnut while appearing a bit fearful of Bibilin. Yet, they mustered the courage to ask, "Excuse us, could we take a photo with you?"
Lingling smiled and nodded, "Sure."
The shop attendant took the camera as the tourist couple stood beside the cat-girls. The young man then suggested, "This one, uh, I'm not sure if you're a sir or miss, would you mind joining us for the photo?"
Clearly, his girlfriend wasn't too thrilled, but she didn't object either.
Bibilin was surprised, his tentacles even blushing a bit as he asked in clumsy Chinese, "Can I?"
When the young man realized Bibilin actually spoke Chinese, he quickly responded, "Of course, of course."
Bibilin shuffled over, unsure of how to pose for a photo with a group of Primates. He lifted several tentacles off the ground, each morphing into a face-like appearance, as horrifying as one could imagine. But the young man, with a taste for the exotic, found it incredibly cool.
After the photo was taken, the young man even tried to shake hands with Bibilin and was amazed upon seeing that Bibilin's tentacles were almost capable of anything, exclaiming, "That's amazing!"
Bibilin bashfully replied, "All of us Gaotians are like this."
After some interaction, the young woman gradually stopped being afraid. Bibilin might look frightening, but he was genuinely good-natured and kind-hearted.
Seeing Bibilin accepted by others, Lingling and Walnut shared a knowing smile.
What do you think?
