Chapter 299 292 Final Defense Line
"Your Majesty, the anti-warp device in the Sirius Galaxy has failed to effectively contain the Teizene Fleet. Their velocity hasn't slowed, and with their current trajectory, they will make a transfer in the Sirius Galaxy and can directly head to any galaxy within the Interstellar Cloud."
Upon hearing Zero's report, Bai Zhongqi was hardly surprised. The method to circumvent anti-warp had already been used by the Teizene during the Reconnaissance Ship incident. Even though it might have been Borke technology, Bai Zhongqi harbored no illusions, having been prepared for the possibility that the enemy could directly leap out of the tight encirclement of the Sirius Galaxy and head to other parts of the Interstellar Cloud.
Bai Zhongqi sighed, "We only have one day left."
Zero asked, "Shall we call back the First Strategic Fleet led by General Sang Jishi?"
"Not yet. If the enemy sees our fleet has left the Sirius Galaxy, they might stop as well. Let Sang Jishi follow them only after the enemy enters the Sirius Galaxy and changes their course," Bai Zhongqi ordered with calm composure.
He then asked with concern, "How is the evacuation and refuge operation proceeding on Earth?"
"We've completed eighty percent of the refuge plan. Places like Africa where facilities are not well developed still have some people who haven't entered the shelters."
Bai Zhongqi grunted in acknowledgment. If the Star Alliance hadn't effectively seized full control of Earth, it would have been impossible to complete such a massive shelter facility plan. Now virtually all production and living activities on Earth had ceased, only various industrial facilities continued to operate via automatic programs, while the majority of people had taken refuge underground.

With a large number of security personnel, especially the bionic human forces keeping watch, order inside the shelters was relatively good. There weren't any people without incidents, but those who tried to stir trouble were promptly subdued when facing warriors clad in individual armor within minutes.
In the forest of skyscrapers, which used to buzz with urban life, there was now silence. No sound of cars racing, no noise of human chatter, only scattered birds perched curiously, wondering why the human habitat had suddenly become so desolate. Holoscreens atop the skyscrapers had turned black, displaying a few large characters that read "Evacuating."
In the farmlands covered with lush crops, large agricultural machinery still stood idle at the edge of the fields, with no sign of people. In some households, doors and windows were left unsecured, allowing sneaky squirrels to leap down from the trees and slip into homes in search of food.
This planet had never been as quiet as on this day. Since humankind had truly established civilization, the planet had always been noisy, with humans quarreling, building, or destroying. But today, except for very few places, human presence had nearly vanished completely.
Only in orbit around the planet was there a stark contrast with the busy activity that was strikingly different from that on Earth.
Huge interstellar spaceships were being prepped; this was the Star Alliance's last line of defense, the final Great Wall to protect the mother planet Earth.
As a commander, Iridium Star Chancellor Bai Zhongqi had already taken his place aboard the Sacred Falcon. Standing in the bridge of the battleship cruiser, he looked composed. He had been with this warship for a long time, and even though he had never truly commanded a strategic fleet of 149 warships, he believed this warship would achieve victory alongside him.
Bai Zhongqi let out a long breath. Despite his composed expression, he was tense inside.
"It's alright, everything is just like playing a game," Bai Zhongqi told himself, and a tactical game image formed by bone neurons emerged in his mind. Above the beautiful homeworld's orbit, he allocated the Fourth Strategic Fleet into different formations.
Zero was much more nervous than Bai Zhongqi. She paced restlessly across the bridge, harboring a different set of thoughts.
"If any danger really arises, I'll use up all the star energy and break out with the Chancellor at all costs!"
Bai Zhongqi stood quietly, only he knew that his battleground was in his mind. With the biochemical signals in his nervous system, he was directly controlling a game that he couldn't afford to lose.
The array of warships loomed large like the majestic stride of old-time air force bombers, the silent vessels appearing as samurais waiting for the signal to draw their swords, quietly adjusting their mental state, ready to unsheathe and charge at the enemy at the final moment.
With the last few warships falling into formation, this included the escort ship Jilin where Wang Duidui was stationed.
"The atmosphere is way too oppressive." Wang Duidui felt uncomfortable; he couldn't stay this tense because he had a problem—when nervous, he was prone to farting.
Jilin, wrapping her arms, mocked her own captain, "You really are pathetic to be scared into farting. Let me tell you, once the real fight starts, our tiny escort ships are going to be the first to suffer. We're small and our shields weak, and those Lizard People's cannons will blast us to smithereens."
Wang Duidui turned green with anger and said, "Have you no humanity? What you're saying includes yourself; when we're blown up, it's not just me who'll die, but also you."
Jilin, unconcerned, replied, "I'm just an AI. I've no obsession with life and death. My purpose is to fulfill my mission. Once I'm gone, my mission ends too, which is a fitting end for me."
Taken aback, Wang Duidui asked, "You mean, you have nothing you're reluctant to leave behind? Being alive is still a beautiful thing, after all."
Rolling her eyes, Jilin retorted, "My life is cooped up with you, a nitwit captain. There's nothing beautiful about that. Aside from being on this ship, I've done nothing else..."@@novelbin@@
As she spoke, Jilin's mood seemed to dip slightly.
Feeling compassionate, Wang Duidui said, "Alright, if we make it out of this, I'll try to get you a bionic body from the higher-ups and then take you out for a walk."
Upon hearing this, Jilin blushed and said indignantly, "Are you asking me out on a date?"
Wang Duidui, feeling embarrassed, hurriedly explained, "Not a date, not a date. Uh, like a brother and sister thing, going out to play, that kind."
Jilin got even more annoyed and shouted, "So you have that kind of fetish, you German orthopedic!"
Their conversations always seemed to miss the mark, but Wang Duidui had gotten used to it.
It was at this moment that the fleet's public channel opened, and Bai Zhongqi's voice came through.
What do you think?
