Chapter 417: 408 Surface City (Part 1)

At Shelter 101 on Taoran Star, Nan Ma couldn't help but cough loudly. Ever since the chaos atop Bei Mountain, Nan Ma had sustained some internal injuries, making him especially prone to coughing, and sometimes he could even cough up blood.

His nephew, Ben, said with indignant hatred, "Those damnable people from the Hunting Group, how could they treat you like this? Even though we suffered heavy losses at Bei Mountain, all the shelters are the same without you. No one could survive, yet they stripped you of your leadership position."

Nan Ma laughed lightly, unconcerned, but the laughter triggered his lungs and he coughed a few more times, saying, "If they want to take that position away, let them have it. Besides, I'm injured and no longer have the energy. I really can't be of much help to the Shelter."

Ben fell into silence. After a while, he spoke again, "The food in the Shelter has almost run out. I heard that the leaders of a few Hunting Groups are discussing kicking some people out."

Nan Ma's expression darkened. He exclaimed angrily, "We launched an uprising and killed the elite just so we wouldn't repeat the old ways, yet they still imitate those elites' backward actions. They're utterly brainless."

Ben nodded vigorously, gripping his uncle's arm, "Exactly, that's why the Shelter just can't make it without you."

Nan Ma sighed, "I had placed my hopes on those people from the Star Alliance. After Bei Mountain, I haven't seen any sign of them, and I don't know if they were killed by the enemy or just forgot about us altogether."

Ben also said, "If those from the Star Alliance could still support us, we wouldn't have to suffer like this anymore."

While they were speaking, a commotion suddenly arose within the Shelter. Ben stepped out of the room. This was no longer the single room that belonged to Nan Ma, where Bai Zhongqi had once lived. After the failed operation, Nan Ma's room had been taken back, and now he had to squeeze into a small dormitory with his nephew.

Ben stopped someone and asked, "What's happened?"

The man said anxiously, "There's big trouble. The entrance of our Shelter has been blown open by someone. No one can get out, and the people from the Hunting Group are organizing to fight."

Ben looked back at Nan Ma, and a gleam of light appeared in Nan Ma's eyes.

"Go, check and see if it's Mr. Bai and his people who have come back."

"Yes, Uncle."

Ben ran off and quickly arrived at the Shelter entrance below. The entrance, originally a pipe structure, had been completely blown open, revealing a patch of azure sky above. As Ben arrived, two people leapt down from above.

"Mr. Bai!" Ben shouted excitedly, pushing through the crowd to get closer.

The people who arrived were naturally agents of Bai Zhongqi. The Chancellor would not personally come to Taoran Star; many affairs here were directly handled through his agents.

Bai Zhongqi nodded to Ben in greeting and asked, "Where is your uncle?"

At the mention of his uncle, Ben was filled with grievance and anger. However, before he could begin to speak, another leader of the Hunting Group interjected, "Leader Nan Ma was injured on Bei Mountain and couldn't carry out his duties. He's currently recuperating in the Shelter."

Bond looked at the leader of the Hunting Group with some anger, while the leader kept winking at him. Although Bond was very annoyed, he still decided to give the guy some face in front of Bai Zhongqi.

And Bai Zhongqi naturally noticed the exchange of glances and expressions between the two men, but he didn't care much about whatever was happening in this small Shelter.

At this time, a graceful silhouette accompanied by a burst of fragrance drifted over. Bai Zhongqi looked closely and saw that it was the most beautiful girl in the Shelter, Tia, who also had a somewhat ambiguous relationship with Nan Ma.

The well-mannered Tia greeted Bai Zhongqi and then asked a question, "Mr. Bai, may I ask where your companion Mr. Nan Ma is, and is he well?"

Bai Zhongqi could see the deep concern on the girl's face, and he felt somewhat indignant on her behalf. Nan Ma was doing as well as one could, having returned to Earth, where he threw a grand party at Beverly Hills, attended by supermodels and celebrities. As a Star Alliance celebrity, a master Star Warrior, and a business tycoon, Nan Ma was anything but modest in his exploits.

Bai Zhongqi nodded and replied to Tia, "Nan Ma is fine."

Tia's expression lightened a bit, and then she asked tentatively, "When will he return?"

Bai Zhongqi, not wanting to hurt the girl, said, "Nan Ma is currently preoccupied on our home planet. If you wish to see him, I can send you to Earth to reunite with him."

Tia was so happy she almost jumped with joy. There wasn't much left in the Shelter for her to cling to, and Nan Ma was everything her young fantasies were made of.

"That would be wonderful, thank you, Mr. Bai."

Bai Zhongqi secretly hoped that this gentle girl would make the master Star Warrior settle down a bit. However, his main reason for coming here was concerning the major development project on Taoran Star.

Bai Zhongqi said to Bond, "Call your uncle over; I have an important announcement to make."

He did not use words like 'negotiate' or 'communicate'; although no formal agreement had been signed, whatever Bai Zhongqi said, Shelter 101 dared not oppose.

Looking withered and frail, Uncle Bo was supported by Bond as he came over. Originally, Bo was not that weak, but when he heard of Bai Zhongqi's arrival, he deliberately made himself appear even weaker.

Bai Zhongqi frowned upon seeing him like this and asked, "Mr. Bo, are you still able to handle affairs? If not, I can find someone else to talk to."

Bo immediately seemed somewhat more spirited, worried that his ruse would backfire. He said, "I can, Mr. Bai. As long as I breathe, I will make sure to accomplish what you entrust."

Bai Zhongqi nodded and said, "Good, my main purpose here is to announce a relocation notice to you. These so-called aliens, or benefactors, have been defeated and driven off by us. Now, the Star Alliance has officially declared sovereignty over Taoran Star. So, legally, any of you have the right to claim your Star Alliance citizenship status. If you wish to do so, the Star Alliance will provide for your living expenses. I am planning to build a city on the surface by Jiezi River, so you will no longer need to live underground. The military might of the Star Alliance will drive off the threatening creatures there, and there will be ample food, comprehensive medical care, and you will be able to find jobs and continue your progeny."

When Bo heard this news, he was so invigorated by the good tidings that he almost fainted. Living on the surface of Taoran Star just like the ancients had been their three-generation wish, and he hadn't expected it to come true now.

Only, Bo was not aware that Taoran Star was still at risk of war. He had never seen nor could he imagine the great battle that lay in the future.
