Lei Xiang looked at the man in front of him tremulously, all his previous bravado gone.

He was utterly desperate and knelt down before Bai Zhongqi and Han Jiaxue with a thud.

"I deserve to die; I was blind and offended the Chancellor's wife. Please, Your Excellency, show great mercy and spare my life. I promise I'll do my utmost to persuade my father to lobby the High Council and secure Your Excellency's rightful status."

Linyin was the one who found this man particularly despicable. She said, "It's not for you vermins to define the status of the Chancellor."

"Yes, yes, I misspoke."

Linyin exchanged a look with Bai Zhongqi, who immediately understood her intentions as they were on the same wavelength.

Even without Linyin's look, Bai Zhongqi had already had the intention to kill. During his absence, Lei Xiang had bullied Han Jiaxue, a widow and orphan, and no matter how good his apology, Bai Zhongqi would not tolerate it. Moreover, if Lei Xiang had boldly told him that he liked Han Jiaxue and dared Bai Zhongqi to kill him, Bai might have even respected him as a real man and allowed him a dignified exit.

But he chose the one approach that Bai Zhongqi couldn't accept.

Bai Zhongqi stepped forward and looked down at him with clear eyes, saying, "This groveling posture of yours particularly resembles someone."

Lei Xiang shivered, sensing from Bai Zhongqi's tone that there would be no amicable resolution. His left arm was equipped with a bio-weapon that could draw on his body's bio-energy to emit a formidable light beam. He wondered if he could launch a sneak attack on Bai Zhongqi and escape amidst the ensuing chaos.

To disarm Bai Zhongqi, Lei Xiang feigned timidity and asked, "May I ask who the Chancellor is?"

Chancellor Bai's Insect Emperor's Hand ferociously transformed into a long knife, so swift that the trajectory of the blade was invisible. He cleaved Lei Xiang's body in two, and the neatly divided corpse did not even spurt blood—eerily so.

"A man about to die," Bai Zhongqi said coldly as the Insect Emperor's Hand transformed back into his hand.

Both Han Jiaxue and Linyin had not expected the previously meek Bai Zhongqi to be so ferocious, his ability to morph his limbs was something not too incredible in the universe, but happening on Bai Zhongqi, especially such a benign Bai Zhongqi, was terrifying.

Seeing their master killed, a few guards from the Broken Fang Civilization roared, "You've killed a man of the Broken Fang; you will be torn to pieces for this!"

Lan Xue snorted and pointed at the frightened yet angry guards, saying, "Stop shouting; my dad is illiterate and doesn't understand what you're saying."

Bai Zhongqi felt a bit embarrassed; he really did not understand, but luckily he had a translator. His daughter always embarrassed her dad for no reason; this needed to be addressed.

Several Humanoid Beasts opened fire on these guards, turning them into bloody chunks—the entire diplomatic residence of the Broken Fang people was annihilated.

Han Jiaxue walked up and took Bai Zhongqi's hand, standing shoulder to shoulder with him.

Bai Zhongqi felt uneasy and asked, "Do you think I have changed?"

Han Jiaxue playfully scraped his palm, smiling at him, "Have I changed too?"

Bai Zhongqi could not help but hug her again, "You've become even more beautiful."

"Clearly I'm just fading."

"By the current life expectancy of Earth people, you'd still be considered an older maiden," Bai Zhongqi joked.

Lan Xue frowned and stood by, spoiling the mood: "Alright, you two, can you have a bit of shame? You're feeding everyone dog food here, and I'm embarrassed even if you're not."

Both Bai Zhongqi and Han Jiaxue were helpless.

Han Jiaxue asked again, "Did you really not count on Lei Xiang to lobby the High Council for you?"

Bai Zhongqi shook his head, "He doesn't have the capability or the qualification for that role, and this man is dark-natured – he promises one thing to your face and might stab you in the back."

"So you're saying he's like Xiao Yu?"

Bai Zhongqi didn't answer.

Instead, he said, "I don't need the endorsement of the High Council either. Revenge isn't something that's given by others, and sooner or later, I'll end up in conflict with those old men who have nothing to do with these matters."

Han Jiaxue smiled and whispered in his ear, "We already have children, I can't just be your girlfriend anymore, I have to be the real Lady Chancellor, otherwise it would be too embarrassing to say out loud."

Bai Zhongqi's laughter was heartfelt as he nodded vigorously and said with a grin, "Wife."

Han Jiaxue's smile turned sly as she asked, "So, my dear Chancellor, how many wives do you plan to have?"

Bai Zhongqi's smile froze on his face, and he stammered for a moment without being able to speak.

Han Jiaxue held up four fingers and asked, "Four, is that okay?"

Bai Zhongqi was a bit stunned, "Where did you get four from?"

Han Jiaxue put on a stern face, "Don't act smart after getting a bargain, I've approved this, I won't meddle in who you find."

Bai Zhongqi didn't know how to respond for a long time, as Han Jiaxue seemed to understand very well this coward's state of mind when it came to feelings. She sighed and said no more.

"Is Xu Lanzhou with you?"

Bai Zhongqi breathed a sigh of relief, quickly following the topic, "Yes, she didn't look happy at all when she saw me, she just slapped me right away."

"Not surprising."

"What?"

"She isn't Xu Lanzhou, or rather, not the Xu Lanzhou you remember. Xu Lanzhou has dissociative personality disorder. I'm not clear how many personalities are currently inside her, but the one that's dominant now calls itself Xu Shisan and really detests you. She's not easy to get along with."

Bai Zhongqi was stunned for a moment and asked, "Is the original personality still there?"

"It is, but it's been a long time since I've seen it," Han Jiaxue sighed slightly.

Bai Zhongqi was silent for a moment, then said, "I'll talk to her later."

Just then, suddenly a figure appeared out of nowhere and thrust a sword at him.

Bai Zhongqi had reacted before the person made a move, but did not take any action.

Only to hear a cold snort from the side, the person seemed to be hammered, flying backward and spitting out a mouthful of blood.

Lan Xue cried out in shock and quickly jumped in front of the person, yelling, "Auntie Zero, no, don't kill Uncle Yege."

However, Yege wasn't grateful; his face was icy and fierce as he looked at Bai Zhongqi, his voice like frost, "No matter who you are, hand over my captain."

Bai Zhongqi glanced at him and said, "Xu Lanzhou is my Knight, I won't harm her."

Yege used his sword to stand up, the blow he had taken was not light. He shook his head and said, "The captain isn't anybody's anything; she's free. I understand her. Even if she was your Knight before, now she just wants to be herself!"

Thump, Yege knelt on the ground, not because he couldn't support himself but voluntarily.

"I will serve you, I will be your dog, just let the captain be free, let her have her freedom."

From the side, You Mi'er closed his eyes in pain, knowing he had lost, Yege's love for Xu Shisan made him willing to give up everything to allow her to have what she desired.
