Chapter 602: Divine General Number 5
In the vast universe, endless stardust.
Two massive fleets stood at opposite ends, but they weren't confronting each other. Each of these fleets comprised no fewer than two thousand warships, each with its own distinct style, yet all were from High-Level Civilizations, with very different focuses. However, no one would doubt that any one of these fleets, if so inclined, could destroy a Mid-Level Civilization.
In the exact middle of the space separating the two fleets, a pentagram-shaped envoy ship was stationed, its position meticulously at the central point of the line connecting the foremost tips of the leading ships from either side. This was the standard diplomatic protocol for fleet meetings, as if moving even an inch closer to one side would demean one's own dignity.
The automatic doors of the envoy ship opened, and an alien with a rhinoceros beetle head, yet with features more akin to a human, walked in nonchalantly. He glanced at the blond man standing in the center of the hall, bathed in a radiant glow.
"Divine General, you know we Jinxi people particularly despise pomp and unnecessary show-off. Can you get to the point? Tell me directly why you've called for this meeting."
The blond man turned around, revealing a countenance so captivating it could obsess countless young women. His attire was equally lavish, adorned with a long robe, making him resemble a king.
"General Achino, I have no desire to beat around the bush with you either. I am sure you are aware that not long ago, the Chancellor of the Star Alliance personally visited the Galactic Council, presenting in front of all the representative members."
The Jinxi General Achino showed a somewhat schadenfreude expression: "In recent years, the Star Alliance has been quite active in the Orion Arm, even pushing the nosy folks from Borke to make a personal appearance there for a bit of intimidation. To be bullied to such a state this time and still come to the Galactic Council to complain in person, how shameless."
Achino looked at the Divine General named Su Shuang with some skepticism and asked, "Divine General, surely the Seven Phoenix Civilization isn't planning to support that laughable fellow Xiao Yu and help the Star Alliance fight against the star devourer?"
Su Shuang remained composed, his handsome face exuding charm. He spoke softly, "I'm afraid it's not just the Seven Phoenix Civilization; the Jinxi Civilization is likely to make a similar choice."
Achino had no eyebrows, but his deep black eyes narrowed, showing his concern. Achino asked, "The reason?"
The famous Divine General gestured, opening a holographic screen that displayed the hologram of a planet.
"Hunting Planet?" Achino was one of the rare few geography experts who didn't rely on databases and had an intimate knowledge of the major planets in the Galaxy.
Su Shuang continued, "Not long ago, the Hunting Planet experienced a monstrous uprising. The creatures on the entire planet organized and rioted en masse, overwhelming the containment of the parks. And just at the final moment, the planet vanished from sight. Those who were on the planet were captured by a group of humanoid beings with insectoid traits and were thrown back to the original location of the Hunting Planet, which had become a void, as if the planet had been swallowed by someone."
Achino finally took this seriously and said in a deep voice, "Are you saying that the culprit behind the vanishing of the Hunting Planet is none other than Bai Zhongqi, the former Chancellor of the Star Alliance who opposed Xiao Yu?"
Su Shuang nodded, "This explanation is easy to understand. The act of devouring stars, although not unheard of throughout the ages, is beyond the capabilities of most High-level Civilizations. Subspace storage technology even allows for an entire planet to be pulled into another world. Such spatial technological prowess points directly to the fundamental principles of existence within a four-dimensional universe. It's not just about understanding it but also about being able to apply it, which is quite alarming."
At this point, Su Shuang paused again before continuing, "Moreover, some civilizations in the committee speculate that the Insectoids that drove away the visitors in the park area during the Hunting Planet's disappearance incident might be the Third Calamity."
Achino's short wings suddenly flared out behind him, which Su Shuang knew was an instinctive reaction of the Jinxi people when shocked.
"Impossible, the behavior pattern of the Swarm isn't like that. I have reviewed the related documents about the engagement between the Fleet of Bai Zhongqi and the Star Alliance. The warship designs were quite close to that of mechanical civilizations, with no traces of monster creatures. The numbers weren't particularly large either, and there were no strong characteristics of a Swarm in coordination. Not to mention, it is impossible for a Swarm to evolve the ability to devour stars, even if it consumed the DNA of all life forms in the Galaxy."
Su Shuang nodded, seemingly agreeing with Achino but then said, "You're right, the outbreak of the Swarm calamity doesn't follow this pattern. But is there a possibility that the former Chancellor of the Star Alliance has taken control of the Swarm's power and engineered it to resemble typical mechanical civilizations? If a single mind were commanding the Swarm, then its destructive power would be magnified significantly."
Achino inhaled sharply, "Divine General, you really dare to think. If it's really as you say, then we've got a big problem. Once this Swarm grows, the calamity could sweep across the entire Galaxy, and even if the ten giants of the Galactic Council joined forces, I fear it would still be dangerous."
Su Shuang said, "If it really is a calamity, those who do not 'fraternize' with us, claiming to be Observers from the Fallen Empires, would also take action, since this is ultimately a matter that decides the fate of the Galaxy."
"So, the Seven Phoenix Civilization is preparing to intervene to assist Xiao Yu while taking the opportunity to verify whether Bai Zhongqi is indeed controlling a Swarm?"
"More or less, but the concern isn't exclusive to the Seven Phoenix in the council. To my knowledge, at least four of the ten giants share this intention. You Jinxi people are always the last to know, so I hope you can play a role."
Achino waved his hand, "We Jinxi people really dislike military intervention in council politics, so I'd rather not take that risk. However, I am in charge of leading a patrol fleet. Though not large, with just over two thousand ships, it is still quite a force. I have the authority to decide where to take my fleet, and if you, the Divine General, intend to visit the Lower Orion's Arm, I, Achino, would be pleased to accompany you."
Su Shuang nodded slightly, "That would be good. If something happens, the Jinxi Civilization would surely send reinforcements immediately. This enemy can open Wormholes at will, appearing and disappearing unpredictably, and if we really want to capture his fleet and verify with combat whether they are a Swarm, we will need more power."
Achino smiled, "The Flyshear Civilization's 'Superstring Detention Fragment Field' should come in handy, right?"
Su Shuang felt a slight headache, "Indeed, that thing doesn't seem very useful at first, but it could play a major role against an enemy capable of opening Wormholes to escape at will. However, the Flyshear people are not particularly easy to get along with, and they don't like working with others, so persuading them might be a bit difficult."
What do you think?
