Chapter 668: 654 Rescue Plane
"Father!" Zhang Yingxi wanted to grab Zhang Shixiong.
The plane had been severely damaged and had begun to shake violently; the broken cabin was being flooded with powerful airstreams, to the point where even a flight attendant was swept outside, becoming a literal human in flight.
Various items from within the cabin were flying around chaotically, turning into equally lethal projectiles. Zhang Yingxi was buckled in with her seatbelt; now she gripped it tightly, her face deathly pale.
At this moment, Zhang Shixiong still managed to keep a certain level of composure, and he yelled to his daughter, "There is a parachute under the seat!"
But even if they put on the parachutes, it would be very difficult to jump out accurately through the hole.
The plane's descent became even more erratic, the powerful twisting force leaving the survivors inside the cabin completely unable to do anything.
Zhang Yingxi, terrified, had a face full of panic and reluctance; she hadn't yet enjoyed life, hadn't experienced love—was she really going to die just like this?
And just at that moment, a hand stretched out of the bag by her side. Like someone groping in the dark, the hand touched Zhang Yingxi's body.
Zhang Shixiong sitting opposite Zhang Yingxi was stunned; how had the world started to become magical from today?
Yet when Zhang Yingxi saw the hand, she was ecstatic.
Ironically, the hand touched Zhang Yingxi's chest. Her face flushed red in an instant, but amidst the bashfulness, there seemed to be hints of other emotions.
Zhang Shixiong watched, wide-eyed, as his daughter was actually being groped by a hand; if he weren't in the midst of a plane crash, he probably would have been cursing out loud.
Then, quite dramatically, the hand quickly retreated.
The bag was stretched wide open, and out of it crawled a person—an actual living person—it was Bai Zhongqi.
Having spent the previous night watch TV dramas with the young fan girl, Bai Zhongqi decided to sleep in a bit more that day; after all, he was now trapped in a fish tank and didn't have anything particularly pressing to do, so he was very lazy.
He had entered the Homeland Stone, but the Homeland Stone could only be left behind in Zhang Yingxi's room, and then his little "snail shell" was brought onto the plane by Zhang Yingxi.
Bai Zhongqi, emerging from the Homeland Stone, immediately realized that something was off—he felt as if he was dropping sharply, and looking around, it seemed that he was inside an airplane.
Bai Zhongqi helplessly looked at Zhang Yingxi, "Why are we crashing?"
Zhang Yingxi wanted to embrace Bai Zhongqi, but found herself restrained by the seatbelt. It seemed like she wasn't afraid of anything else, and immediately she unbuckled her seatbelt. Zhang Shixiong, seeing this, exclaimed, "Have you lost your mind?"
Zhang Yingxi tried to unbuckle her seatbelt to embrace Bai Zhongqi, but as soon as she did, she was almost blown away by the powerful air currents.
Bai Zhongqi pursed his lips—without any visible action from him, suddenly the air currents inside the cabin stabilized. Zhang Yingxi instantly regained her ability to move and rushed to embrace Bai Zhongqi.
Bai Zhongqi raised his hand, and Zhang Yingxi found she couldn't move forward.
Bai Zhongqi smiled at her and said, "Don't be overexcited."
Like someone who had just gotten out of bed, he rubbed his neck, then pointed upward with his finger; suddenly the harshly descending plane corrected its attitude, its plummeting motion arrested, and then, like a light leaf, it began to gently fall toward the ground.
Zhang Shixiong by then, even if he were a fool, knew he had been saved and could hardly believe the things he experienced that day.
"I had heard that the Prime Minister had a supernatural helper by his side, a person of immense talent who saved him from assassination and danger time and again. I thought it was an exaggeration, but meeting you today, I realize how narrow my understanding was. Zhang Shixiong is grateful for your life-saving grace!" Zhang Shixiong immediately bowed, showing great respect.
Zhang Yingxi, seeing her father, who had always been too proud, bow to Bai Zhongqi, was also somewhat shocked but even more so delighted.
She cheerfully asked like a little bird, "How did you come out of my bag?"
Bai Zhongqi reached into her bag and pulled out the Homeland Stone, saying, "You took my home with you."
Zhang Shixiong was even more astonished; this supernatural being seemed to be familiar with his daughter and also lived inside a stone.
Zhang Yingxi, with an exceptionally sweet smile, no longer showing any fright from the danger just passed, said, "So this stone is your home, huh? Can you take me to see it?"
Bai Zhongqi could only politely decline, "Perhaps if there's a chance."
The airplane had already landed steadily on the ground, and Zhang Shixiong and the others only felt a slight jolt.
Bai Zhongqi was the first to walk out of the airplane and found that it had landed in the middle of a field. The peasants who had been farming seemed to be scared stiff, running in all directions, with none of them staying to watch the excitement.
"It seems to have damaged quite a few crops," Bai Zhongqi remarked casually.
Upon hearing this, Zhang Shixiong immediately said, "This is Zhang's fault. As soon as I return to the official residence, I will see to it that compensation is given to the affected households."
Bai Zhongqi touched the broken wing's gash and said, "There's no need for you to take the blame, Zhang. The plane was brought down by an anti-aircraft missile."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Shixiong's expression immediately darkened, "Qikun people!"
In the lands of Qing State, the only others with anti-aircraft missile capabilities were Qikun people and himself. But with the limited military power he possessed, his battlefield anti-aircraft missiles weren't that effective, mostly just man-portable air-defense systems, and surely his own people wouldn't turn against him. Therefore, the perpetrators had to be the Qikun people.
However, Zhang Yingxi, unconcerned with anything else, approached Bai Zhongqi and with a heartfelt expression said to him, "Thank you for saving me."
Bai Zhongqi waved it off, "You even lent me your computer."
Zhang Shixiong watched his daughter interact with this man and felt something was amiss between them. If this man, who lived inside a stone and seemingly had almost boundless power, wanted to "steal away her fragrance and beauty," Zhang had no means to stop him. Now that the Qikun people had set him up, it was no longer possible to continue dealing with the tigers. He thought to himself that if he could make use of this man's extraordinary talent, then his daughter, sold off, might actually be of some value.
He still asked very respectfully, "May I inquire the gentleman's esteemed name?"
"Bai Zhongqi."
"Where does the gentleman hail from?"
"Just an idle fellow."
For Bai Zhongqi, there was little point in taking issue with such a warlord. He conversed with him solely for the sake of his daughter, pretty as a flower.
"Zhang, you truly walk on thin ice in Qing State. The Qikun people are brazenly after your life; of course, they probably want the end of the entire Eastern Land. Now, I quite dislike Eastern Land being bullied by Qikun, so I'm thinking of teaching Qikun a lesson. I wonder if Zhang has any interest in playing the role of a heroic defender of the nation and home?"
What do you think?
