33 – Beautiful Place
“I guess by now you're wondering what your grade is in the school's evaluation, were there any deficiencies in your game that you identified?” Old Principal Prescott asked me after Professor Pine left the office.@@novelbin@@
Looking at the man, I didn't even have to think long before giving my explanation.
“In terms of developing Players' skills, although Runestone does a good job of letting Players improve their stats with False Neurological Feedback, I know that my game doesn't do any work on improving Players' skills with weapons or combat, which still requires them to play other games to train in that area.” I said calmly.
Nodding his head at my explanation, the old man gave me a satisfied smile.
“Yes, and how do you intend to deal with that?” He asked me as he interlaced the fingers of his hands above the table and looked at me with interest.
Thinking for a moment, I answered honestly. “Initially I had an idea of just developing this game further with some area for Players to train combat, but after realizing that this would probably limit me in the future I decided to just save money for a while and buy a new Game Core to make a game that compensates for these deficiencies, leaving Runestone to focus exclusively on the best with False Neurological Feedback.”
Listening to my explanation, the old man asked again. “Your two approaches make sense, do you intend to evolve Runestone's Game Core?”
I nodded.
Then he continued. “That's a long way off... accumulating 100,000 MP in a Game Core F Rank is no easy task, even more so for someone who uses such expensive technology as False Neurological Feedback in the game. You'd probably need 40 million hours spent in total on your game, whether that's an average of 5,000 Players over 360 days, or 10,000 Players over 180 days, are you confident of achieving that? Not to mention that this time is without considering the 200 MP you would consume daily to increase your maximum MP.”
'10,000 Players on average online in the game for 6 months wouldn't be difficult to achieve, honestly the biggest problem would be the time, which might be too long for me, but considering the growth that Runestone was having, the number of Players would probably continue to rise even more, decreasing that time more and more.' I thought.
“It's not like I'm going to lose anything by doing this, even if I used very little Mana in the game update every day the game would still hold up very well, probably even growing over time even without my intervention.” I explained, although I had no intention of stopping updating the game.
The director agreed. “Yes, compared to other new games that have difficulty maintaining a Player Base of thousands of Players, your game is showing a path of consolidation that is unlikely to fall, making the evolution of the Game Core only a question of 'when' and not 'if', but since you commented that your new game will make up for Runestone's deficiency in improving Players' practice, will you give up the use of False Neurological Feedback in this new game?”
That was a good question, something I had to admit I wasn't sure about. “I don't know yet. Using False Neurological Feedback on cards is the simplest and cheapest use I had available, but trying to use it on something more complex will probably increase the Mana cost by such a high rate that the game might not even make me a profit in MP...”
The old man laughed when he heard this. “Stop talking like you're suffering from it, kid, you're the only Game Creator below B Rank who's managed to apply this technology, going even more extreme and applying something like this to an F Rank game haha!”
I just shook my head and didn't pay much attention to it, but my attitude made the director indignant and he said something I didn't expect.
“Kid, I don't think you realize the level of your achievement... this week alone I've already received 3 emails from the Federation wanting to analyze your game and trying to convince me to get a detailed explanation from you on how to apply this technology to low Rank games, the headache it was to turn down those greedy politicians is all your fault.” He complained while frowning.
Hearing that surprised me. Since this kind of thing didn't reach me, I really had no idea how impressive the use of it in my game had been in the eyes of the people of this world... maybe I'll have to be careful not to attract so much attention in the future.
Seeing my caution emerging, the old man was pleased. “Very well, that's what I expected from you. Your idea of making a new game without using False Neurological Feedback is a good one, keep at it. You're still just a Game Creator F Rank, a nobody among the Federation, make the most of this time of growth and try to speed it up.
I'm sure that Runestone will become a success on the Federation's website, needing very little time to rise in Rank, which will raise your Mana level very quickly and earn you a lot of money, don't waste that money and save it for another Game Core to accelerate your growth even more, it's no wonder that each Game Creator accumulates several games to rise in Rank.”
Listening to his explanation, I nodded.
Although Game Cores were very expensive, the Federation gave discounts to low Rank Game Creators.
The first Game Core a Game Creator bought cost just $20,000, with the next one going up to $40,000 and the price doubling until it reached the original price of a few million.
Because of this discount alone, the Federation lost billions of dollars every year, so no Game Creator complained about them taking part of the money spent by Players to play the games, or that they took a share of Players' profits from each dungeon.
Seeing that I had understood his point of view, the old director didn't ask any more about Game Creating and changed the subject.
“Are you still interested in the apartment I offered you that day?” He asked curiously.
I only had one question about it. “What will the rent be?”
The old man thought for a moment and answered. “If I were to rent this apartment to anyone else at the market price, the price would probably be around $7,000 to $9,000 a month, but since I've offered you to live there with some conditions, half of that is okay with me, so it would be around $4,000 a month.”
Hearing that price, I choked in surprise. “What?! Four thousand dollars for rent?! I'm going to live in a castle, old man?!”
As soon as I said that, I realized that because of the surprise I'd gone a little overboard and prepared to apologize, only to see the director start to burst out laughing.
“Hahahaha, of course not kid, are you surprised to pay $4,000 in rent? Don't tell me your monthly salary with Runestone won't reach $20,000 in the next few days? Not to mention when the game goes on the Federation's website, that income will increase even more, or when you create another game, your profit will increase even more...” He laughed as he spoke. He laughed as he spoke. “In today's world, no one makes more money on average than Players and Game Creators, with Players needing to climb several ranks before they start getting rich and Game Creators already starting to get rich from the F Rank.”
Hearing this, I had to admit that it's true... 'Runestone is reaching 5,000 average Players and my monthly income would reach $21,000 because of this, considering that F Rank games only pay $6 per 1,000 hours, higher Rank games not only yield more Mana for Game Creators but the price to play is also higher, which further increases the income for Game Creators... damn, I'm really going to get rich!'
But shaking my head not to let that fool me, I still looked at the old man with a frown. “Although I'll really make that kind of money in the future, right now I don't have that kind of money...”
The director just shook his head at this and said. “Don't worry, as I've invited you to live there to help my granddaughter, the first month's rent will be free, you'll just need to pay me the rent from the second month onwards.”
Hearing that made me see this proposal as much more acceptable.
If I could receive Runestone's income for one month, I'd already have at least $20,000 accumulated in my account, or maybe even more than that depending on how much the game brought in.
“But be aware that the apartment is empty, you'll have to buy the furniture with your own money.” The old man said something that made me feel as if the money in my wallet would fly away.
“You're kidding, right?” I wanted to confirm.
“Seriously, the apartment doesn't have any furniture, so you'll have to buy everything you're going to use... of course, if you want to move somewhere else, everything you've bought is yours.” He explained, making me nod.
Even if I had to buy things myself, at least I'd be living in a nice house, something I've never lived in, in either of my two lives.
In this life I only lived in an orphanage and the college dormitory, which I already felt was a great place for me, while in the other life I also lived a simple life all the time.
'At least it will be fun to live somewhere nice for once. I thought excitedly.
