Chapter 87: 87 Cat Dad
Chapter 87: Chapter 87 Cat Dad
“You want to see my father?”
Big Face Cat was quite surprised. He didn’t expect his new little brother would make such a request:
“Just forget it… He’s been talking nonsense recently, researching to the point of going crazy. I heard my mom say that he locks himself in his room all day and doesn’t come out, nor does he let us in. He’s completely delusional.”@@novelbin@@
“Moreover…”
Big Face Cat glanced at his watch:
“I also promised my son I’d buy him roast chicken to eat today. How about this, you come home with me for dinner, seeing as you have nowhere to stay. Crash at mine for the night, and tomorrow I’ll ride the motorcycle and take you to my dad.”
“Let’s just go today, Brother Lian!”
Lin Xian shook his sturdy arm:
“You don’t have to waste too much time. Just drop me off at your dad’s house and then you can head straight back to buy roast chicken for your son and have dinner, no need to keep me company.”
“I’m really interested in mathematics, and I have some questions I’d like to ask your father. How about we make it a quick trip?”
Brother Lian pondered for a moment…
“Alright.”
He scratched his armpit:
“Since I said I’d compensate you, fulfill your wish, I, as the elder brother, can’t go back on my word.”
“Ah Zhuang, hand this little thief over to the police, I won’t go. I’m taking Lin Xian on a motorcycle to find my dad.”
Ah Zhuang leaned in, glanced at Lin Xian, and said quietly:
“Big brother, what about tonight…”
Big Face Cat made a gesture:
“Everything as usual, we’ll be back soon.”
…
Big Face Cat took Lin Xian home and rolled out his motorcycle.
It was pretty old, but very clean, clearly a vehicle Big Face Cat cherished.
In this technologically backward, impoverished village, perhaps the value of this motorcycle was equivalent to that of a Rolls-Royce.
“Put on the helmet.”
Big Face Cat tossed a helmet to Lin Xian, telling him to wear it.
“Is it that necessary?”
Lin Xian fastened the helmet strap, somewhat incredulous at Big Face Cat’s change.
Once a bold robber who held up banks with bombs… now he was concerned about something as trivial as wearing a helmet.
“I need to set an example for my kids!”
Big Face Cat also put on an oversized helmet, but the straps just hung loose at the sides without being fastened. It seemed he was aware that his face was too big for them to be tied.
He pointed towards his son and daughter looking down from the second floor:
“I’m always teaching them to pay attention to safety, shouldn’t I lead by example?”
Lin Xian smiled, but said nothing.
In the last dream, the last time he and Big Face Cat robbed a bank, Big Face Cat himself had said that if his daughter were still alive, he definitely wouldn’t have become what he was now.
He had wanted to attend parent-teacher conferences for his daughter, to make speeches and such. He inevitably would have been cautious about his behavior and his identity.
Now it appeared to be true.
For Big Face Cat, the key to how his life turned out was whether his daughter was alive or dead.
If his daughter lived, he was a kind father who led by example.
If his daughter had died, he was a fierce criminal blinded by vengeance.
Perhaps the lives of everyone are like this.
…
The motorcycle sped along the bumpy dirt road.
The two had now left the village and arrived at the boundless fields.
There were no more crowded self-built buildings; the air was exceptionally fresh, and the view was very broad.
Lin Xian looked into the distance and easily saw the [New Donghai City] standing between the earth and the sky.
It truly looked like a huge and terrifying object from out of this world.
New Donghai City covered a vast area with steel walls stretching endlessly. Countless tall buildings rose from the ground and disappeared into the clouds.
Lin Xian couldn’t judge how tall these buildings were… it was beyond his understanding.
With such good weather today, the sky so clear, and the clouds so high, there were still countless buildings that disappeared straight up into the clouds, unseen. It was hard to know if they were hundreds of stories high, or even more.
Since it was daytime, Lin Xian could now see the details of the external walls of New Donghai City more clearly.
They seemed to be made of steel because, even from a distance, he could still see some rust marks. There was a stark contrast between the gleaming interior and the exterior, and overall, it looked quite uncoordinated.
But to the residents living inside New Donghai City, who were enshrouded within, they could never see the mottled, rusty exterior, so there was naturally no need for cleaning and maintenance.
Lin Xian guessed that the height of these steel walls was at least two hundred meters.
Since Donghai City also had many buildings a few hundred meters high, he still had the ability to make such an estimation.
The landmark building of Donghai City, the Oriental Pearl, was about 460 meters tall. The steel wall encircling the whole of New Donghai City seemed to be about half the height of the Oriental Pearl at a rough estimate.
It was hard to imagine…
Such a vast and magnificent giant miracle project, how much steel is needed, and how powerful a production force is required to build it?
Lin Xian didn’t know.
Neither did Big Face Cat and his friends.
Just as Big Face Cat said…
The separation inside and outside this steel wall is like the Milky Way; each side views the other as aliens.
…
“We’re here, little brother!”
Sssssss——
Big Face Cat used his slipper as a brake, kicking up a cloud of dust.
This ride was really not short… Big Face Cat’s motorcycle drove so fast, and it still took half an hour to get there, Lin Xian’s butt was almost bounced into four pieces.
The motorcycle stopped outside the courtyard of a two-story house, where Big Face Cat pointed to a room on the second floor with the curtains tightly closed:
“Look, that’s my dad’s room. He’s definitely still cooped up in there studying that damned book.”
After parking the motorcycle, Big Face Cat went straight up and knocked on the door.
“Mom!!”
Big Face Cat yelled.
…
No one responded.
Bang bang bang bang bang!!!!
“Dad!!!”
…
Still, there was no movement inside the house.
“That’s weird!”
Big Face Cat looked incredulous and turned to Lin Xian:
“It’s one thing for my mom to go out… but my dad absolutely never leaves the house! Ever since he worked out that universal constant, except for going to the toilet and eating, he has never stepped out of the room, let alone the house!”
He scratched his head, unable to believe that his father would go out, took a deep breath, and puffed out his chest—
“Dad—”
“Stop shouting, Big Face!”
A neighbor’s uncle came out.
“Uncle Wang?”
Big Face Cat looked at the uncle:
“Where are my parents?”
“Silly boy… your parents were taken away early this morning. Your family is going to strike it rich, haha!”
Strike it rich?
Big Face Cat and Lin Xian looked at each other in confusion, not understanding.
“Uncle Wang, who took my parents away? Why didn’t they even call me?”
“They left in a hurry. Someone invited your dad to an academic forum. This time your dad is really going to bring glory to the ancestors!”
“Hey…”
Big Face Cat snorted dismissively:
“Uncle Wang, one moment you’re saying we’ve hit the big time, the next moment you’re talking about bringing glory to the ancestors. I thought my dad had won the lottery or something! Turns out it’s just an academic forum! Really… got me excited for nothing.”
“Hehe, you’re such a fool!”
The neighbor uncle fanned himself, his face full of excitement and eagerness:
“Your dad’s achievement this time is way more impressive than winning the lottery or winning ten thousand lottery tickets!”
“For centuries… for hundreds of years, your dad is the first person to be invited into New Donghai City!”
“What?! New Donghai City?”
When they heard the uncle’s words.
Both Big Face Cat and Lin Xian were stunned.
New Donghai City.
Lin Xian frowned.
Wasn’t it said that the people here have no way to enter that giant sci-fi city? The high wall more than two hundred meters tall separates the inside and outside of the city into two worlds, an insurmountable divine condemnation.
But…
“Uncle Wang! Are you serious? Stop kidding around!” Big Face Cat couldn’t believe it.
“Nonsense! Why would I lie to you!”
The uncle’s expression turned serious in an instant, pointing his fan towards the towering steel city in the distance, which loomed like a crouching black dragon:
“At around seven or eight o’clock this morning, several cars flew down from the sky! They politely picked up your parents!”
“By now… they might be dining on delicacies!”
What do you think?
