Chapter 548 The Hidden Threat
548 The Hidden Threat
The thirty-four new people had all agreed to join Shane's group and became part of the Eclipse Domain Shelter.
As the sun began to set, Shane and his group finally arrived at the outskirts of Eclipse Domain.
The walls of the shelter seemed quite sturdy and new. There were also automated turrets scanning for potential threats.
The two watchtowers in front were also manned by a couple of Elves each.
For the 34 newly rescued survivors, it was a sight that left them speechless. They knew for a fact that this was the safest place they could ever have.
"This place... it's a fortress," one of them muttered in awe.
"It looks really grand. I wonder how many people are here."
"We should work hard and not lose our rights to live in this shelter."
Everyone had the same thoughts as they knew that there would be a lot of people who would want to live here. They were worried that if Shane no longer found them useful, he might abandon them and remove their rights to stay here.
In short, they were all eager to contribute to their new home.
As they got closer, they heard the noise from the chainsaws not too far from them. The group watched as three incredibly muscular men efficiently felled towering trees.
They have chainsaws slicing through trunks like butter!
Bam!
The moment a tree fell, they worked in sync, effortlessly lifting the logs onto their shoulders and carrying them toward the shelter's gates.
It was such an incredible scene seeing such people doing these tasks so effortlessly.
"Those Super Soldiers are really good..." Sol said, impressed by their raw strength and efficiency.
Well, the Silver Mine Camp doesn't have any Super Soldiers at all. All of them are concentrated in the Springriver Manor. Seeing them work right now, made her realize how good to have these men.
As they reached the gates, Edwin, the butler, stood at the entrance, awaiting their arrival. He was dressed in his signature pristine uniform and gave a respectful nod to Shane before surveying the new arrivals.
Shane then introduced the group to them as he wanted Edwin to manage them. Shane simply had no time to assign them some tasks one by one.
The butler should be able to do something about it.
Edwin, knowing that he was trusted by the Shelter Owner, felt thrilled as he indeed wanted to show his loyalty to Shane.
Turning to the group of Survivors that Shane recruited, he finally spoke up.
"We are pleased to have you join our community. Here, everyone has a role. You will be assigned tasks based on your skills and abilities. Follow me."
The rescued survivors exchanged glances before nodding. They were already convinced that this shelter was something they needed to survive.
They all wanted to contribute to a community that clearly had structure and protection. They followed Edwin inside the shelter, where a bustling scene awaited them.
There certainly weren't a lot of people inside the shelter.
The shelter seemed to be capable of holding a few thousand people but there were probably just less than a hundred inside.
"Alright… Let's start here."
Edwin said as he toured them inside their shelter.
The kitchen was filled with the scent of roasted meat and fresh bread.
Marla, the head cook, wiped her hands on her apron before turning to greet them.
Edwin introduced her and asked her if she needed more people there.
"Yes… But you lot look hungry! Oh, before you eat… Who here knows how to cook?"
Several survivors stepped forward hesitantly. "I worked in a diner before all this," one of them admitted.
There were also two others who started mentioning their past experiences.
"Good enough. Get to peeling those potatoes," Marla ordered, handing them knives. "You'll be helping in the kitchen. We feed a lot of mouths here."
There were only six people in the kitchen but Marla was advised by Shane to have shifting hours so there would be a day off for others.
After this, they visited the forge.
Borek, the draconic-blooded craftsman, was busy hammering away at a red-hot piece of metal while Renz worked beside him, sharpening a newly forged sword. There were also three others in the workshop who were all working on their anvils.
"Anyone here have experience with smithing or crafting?" Borek asked, not even pausing in his work. He already knew why Edwin guided the new residents.
A few hesitant hands rose. They explained what they could do and they were simply assistants in their previous jobs so they only knew a few things about smithing.
Nonetheless, it was more than enough since Borek and Renz would still have to teach them.
"Good. You'll be helping Renz and me make weapons and armor. Our fighters need the best equipment to stay alive out there. You all have to take this job seriously."
Finally, Edwin brought the group to the training yard.
Captain Flint, the former town guard, was already sizing up potential recruits for combat training. After all, he needs more people to guard the walls or even to operate the ballista.
He scanned the group with a keen eye before barking, "Anyone who has handled a weapon, step forward!"
All of the survivors stepped up.
As scavengers, they certainly had to fight most of the time. They may not be strong but they could protect themselves against low-tier Zombies.
"I used to be a police officer," one said.
"I was in a hunting club before this," another added.
Flint grinned as he listened to everyone's words.
"Alright, you're all with me. But you still have to learn how to fight the right way."
However, there were still other people who weren't comfortable being part of the guards so they requested Edwin for another possible task for them.
Edwin naturally agreed as he assigned various other tasks—some to help reinforce the walls, others to assist the Super Soldiers, and a few were directed to assist in general maintenance. The integration process proceeded smoothly.
As night came, the shelter had certainly become livelier than ever.
They all celebrated the appearance of their new companions around a huge bonfire they had arranged. Tundra even pulled up a barrel of alcohol to add to the festivities. The barrel seemed to have high quality as well since it had probably come from Bart.
Shane watched it all unfold from one of the watchtowers with a small smirk on his face. He couldn't help but feel satisfied seeing how he had built this shelter.

A few hours ago, after Shane and his team left the citadel, the three clones of Travis also scouted the place and confirmed that all valuables had already been taken away by the team.
They soon slipped away from the ruins of Maggotfall Citadel as they headed in a different direction.
The strength of the Eclipse Revenant was nothing short of impressive. Perhaps, if they had more members who could work on their clan missions, they would probably become the top Clan instead.
"That man Shane… he accepted a lot of survivors… I wonder if some of them are talented." @@novelbin@@
"The Eclipse Domain… It's a nice name for a shelter. If they continue to expand, they'll dominate this entire sector. Should we build a shelter here as well?"
"This place is still too dangerous. We're not like Shane who had an uncountable number of resources."
"That's enough. This is not our main mission," the third clone reminded.
"We have to execute Statham the Vampire… He's the real threat. We need to confirm his hideout."
After some time, the three of them then turned toward a cave entrance at the base of a distant mountain.
It was barely visible in the night but since they already marked this place, they were able to easily find the place.
"I think Statham is really here. Not just any of his Vampire Knights."
Even with their Draconic Bloodline, they could feel the unnatural aura from the depths of the cave. This aura was definitely not something a Vampire Knight could have.
"Let's go…" One of the clones said.
The moment they stepped inside, hundreds of red eyes opened, looking at them.
Vampires.
"Get ready for battle…"
The first wave came instantly. Dozens of Vampires appeared with their outstretched hands, and bared fangs, hoping to devour their blood.
However, the clones reacted swiftly.
One clone wielded a curved blade and slashed through the first rank of creatures.
Another clone breathed out a wave of flame! This flame incinerated the vampires in front as they all shrieked in agony and soon turned to ash.
The third clone took a defensive stance, unleashing several sword strikes that kept the Vampires at bay.
Yet for every vampire they killed, more emerged from the darkness.
"There's too many of them…" One of the clones groaned as his blade cleaved through three at once.
The Vampires were definitely weak, however, their numbers could definitely overwhelm them if they didn't do something about it.
What do you think?
