Chapter 606: Strongest Necromancer
Inside the bunker, Shane finally felt the presence of the Necromancer deep inside. The bunker's entrance was actually blocking his Perception and even Cloud's detection range. It was no wonder he couldn't sense the Necromancer's presence.
"This one is strong…" Shane muttered as he could feel it—a dense, suffocating aura of death. It was far stronger than the Lich outside or any other Necromancers he had seen.
Perhaps, this Necromancer was as strong as Asad with his Tome of the Dead. This Necromancer might really be the Rank 1 Necromancer of the Wild Shelters.
However, even with his presence, the Necromancer didn't move. It was as if he was waiting for Shane to enter his chamber deeper inside.
'Let's do that then…' Shane thought as he monitored the Necromancer's aura while also walking forward.
Clank… Clank… Clank…
Just like that, he rolled three Light Orbs on the ground, brightening up the whole place. Although he had Night Vision and could see well in the dark, it was a lot better to have lights giving him a better look at his surroundings.
As Shane navigated the corridors, his undead disguise allowed him to pass unnoticed by the few remaining skeleton sentries.
He didn't expect that it was actually effective against these Undead Summons, or perhaps, the Necromancer ordered them not to attack him... He wasn't exactly sure.
'I guess you also want to meet me, huh...' He mused.
Then, as he continued moving, he found it.
The central chamber.
"Mhmm?" Shane was shocked as he realized that the Necromancer living here was the real deal.
He saw rows of dissection tables, each of them having a mutilated corpse mid-transformation.
There were also glass tanks filled with bodies that had their flesh stitched with cybernetics.
'He's not summoning them… He's making all the ghouls or creatures he can command. What a crazy Necromancer.' Shane thought as he realized that those modified ghouls were indeed created instead of summoned.
Aside from this, Shane also saw a vat of black liquid. He wasn't sure if it was blood or a special concoction to create Undead Summons, but it definitely reeks.
And there, Shane saw the Necromancer himself.
This Necromancer was also wearing a Dark Magician robe, but the quality was definitely a lot higher compared to the ones worn by the Lich outside.
The Necromander's face was hidden behind a cracked porcelain mask, and he seemed to be speaking to him in an unknown language…
"I'm sorry… I can't understand what you're saying." Shane said, which actually surprised the Necromancer.
"You speak the human tongue… You're not rogue Undead Summon…" The Necromancer said, and this time, Shane understood him.
It turned out that his disguise was too good for even the Necromancer to realize.
"What are you? Who summoned you here?" The Necromancer asked in confusion.
It seemed that he could tell how strong and unusual Shane was. He probably knew that a Zombie as strong as he was could not appear in this world at all.
He could only believe that there must be another Necromancer or Undead Summoner who brought a Zombie like him here.
'That's probably what it's thinking…' Shane mused.
It was no wonder that he was able to enter this deeper part of the bunker without any resistance.
In any case, Shane considered for a moment whether to drop the disguise since the Necromancer should have no way of escaping now.
'Alright… Let's just try if I can still win.' Shane thought as he decided not to undo his disguise.
He then looked at the Necromancer and replied…
"No. I'm not summoned here… But I'm your executioner."
The Necromancer laughed and it was a sound like breaking glass. "Fool. You think you can kill death itself?"
Nonetheless, Shane was not scared.
'No weapons. No armor. Just raw power. I can win!'
His stats were maxed—3,000 STR, 3,000 AGI—and his titles stacked the odds in his favor.
[ Slayer of Decay: Grants a 10% increase in damage and resistance against all undead creatures. ]
[ Slayer of the Abyss: Grants a 12% increase in damage against larger enemies and reduces incoming area-of-effect damage by 15%.
[ Vermin Bane: Increases resistance to airborne toxins and vermin effects by 15%. Grants a 15% boost to damage against hive-type and insectoid undead. ]
The Necromancer's eyes narrowed as he heard Shane's bold claims.
"Executioner? You are but a stray beast. A failed experiment."
As he said this, bones started appearing from the floor.
Shane didn't miss this movement as he saw Bone Spikes lanced upward. This impaled the space where Shane had stood—but he was already gone.
He was no longer limiting his Agility at this point!
With that much Agility, his dodge chance was near-flawless.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Bone Spikes kept coming but Shane zigzagged through them as he closed the distance as quickly as possible. The Necromancer barely had time to sneer before—
CRACK!
Shane's fist shattered the Necromancer's ribcage, sending him flying across the dissection tables.
His Strength gives him Armor Penetration at 15%, and it seemed that it could ignore Magic Defense.
Furthermore, with his current Strength Points, he would certainly destroy everyone!
Just like that, the Necromancer coughed black matter, but his fingers twitched to summon his undead!
In just a few moments, five cybernetic ghouls appeared!
The first ghoul pounced on him without any hesitation. It jumped high and slashed downward—
However, it was slow. Shane easily sidestepped, grabbed its wrist, and slammed it into the ground hard enough to crack concrete.
Bang!
The ghoul's skull imploded with that move.
The second and third then attacked in unison. Just like what Shane had seen outside, they did not care about their companions and continued to attack without any signs of hesitation.
'What kind of arm is that?' Shane thought as he noticed that their arms seemed to be turning red as if it was about to explode…
Shane ducked, letting their own blades clash mid-air…
Clank!
He then elbowed one of the Ghoul's spines, snapping it like a twig!
Crank! The third also suffered the same thing after grabbing its head and torso as he forcefully tore the Ghouls in half!
The fourth tried to flank him but he easily used his Phantasm Rush to avoid it. As soon as he got on its back, he gripped its head and twisted it before pulling it up.
CRUNCH.
'Last one…' Shane thought as he looked at the fifth ghoul.
Shane noticed that it was waiting for him to attack this time, so he didn't hesitate to kick it…
Bang!
He kicked its chest too fast, and it failed to avoid or block the attack… Furthermore, it was too strong to the point that he made a hole in its body.
The Necromancer didn't like what had happened and raised his staff—
"Death Surge!"
A wave of black energy exploded outward.
Shane wasn't sure what it was but since he had Magic Resistance and other effects that could help him, he was confident that he could endure…
However, he still wanted to lessen the impact on him, so he leaped upward, kicking off the ceiling to avoid most of the blast.
Whom~
Suddenly, the wave corroded the floor where he'd stood, melting the steel.
'Toxic, huh... I should avoid direct hits.'
He also had Toxin Resistance, so he felt more confident now that he knew what the Necromancer could cast.
However, the Necromancer wasn't done.
"Soul Shackles!"
Some dark chains magically shot from the walls, aiming to bind Shane—
"Mhmm?" Shane couldn't help but feel surprised since this type of magic was something Dark Elves could also do.
Nonetheless, his 3000 AGI meant otherworldly reflexes.
He swiftly moved back, letting the chains whip past him, then charged forward… This might be a simple move, but the Necromancer was surprised as no one had ever evaded Soul Shackles before—
It was a targeted spell and evading it would require not just fast reflexes, but also the body control to avoid it in that split-second moment.
SHUNK!
Shane's fingers pierced through the Necromancer's chest, and he soon gripped his spine.
It was a very gory and nasty move, but Shane was a Zombie right now, so he didn't care.
"You're slower than your summons…" Shane said as he planned to crush the Necromancer's bones…
However, the Necromancer just smiled at him.
"Fool."
The Necromancer in Shane's grasp suddenly dissolved into black mist.
'An Escape Technique? No… Is that a Clone?' Shane thought as he wasn't sure how the Necromancer escaped his grasp.
Soon, Shane noticed that the Necromancer was already standing atop the central vat, containing the mysterious black liquid…
Before Shane could do something, the Necromancer had already finished his incantation as he spread his arms….
"Rise, my magnum opus."
As soon as he said this, the black liquid bubbled violently—
Then something colossal clawed its way out.
With Cloud's analysis, he immediately confirmed that it was a golem made of flesh and steel!
What do you think?
