Chapter 693: 700, Cyberpunk’s Beak City_1
This frontier town before me was desolate, dilapidated and anything but lively.
If it weren’t for its proximity to the wild continent, providing some consumption for passing adventurers, this small town would’ve surely vanished in the rolling river of history long ago.
Its financial situation was also dire, cracked roads were everywhere, and there was no such thing as security cameras.
Compared to the two small towns in Su Yu’s videos, this place was clearly worse off.
Sky Dragon shook his head, dashed eerily towards the depths of the small town.
She needed to figure out how to give herself a legal identity first.
...
“Stop! Girl, hand over all the money on you!”
Just as Sky Dragon was passing a dim and filthy alleyway, four skrull-shaped gangsters jumped down from the sewage pipe beside the road, blocking her way.
The four thugs, three men and a woman, each held a finely crafted black retractable knife, the blades glinting in the sunset.
Sky Dragon startled for a moment.
But she quickly recollected herself, took two steps backward, and uttered in a fearful tone, “What do you want to do? I’m a tourist from the Raging Sun Empire, I just got lost.”
“Raging Sun Empire?” The four thugs also paused.
However, glancing at Sky Dragon’s flaming red Raging Sun civilian attire (Raging Sun people prefer red and yellow clothes, while Lun Kete and the surrounding left-wing countries prefer blue and black) and her thick Raging Sun accent, the four thugs immediately determined that she was definitely a Raging Sun individual.
“Ha-ha, so she’s actually a person from the Raging Sun!” one of the thugs laughed hysterically, laying a hand on Sky Dragon’s shoulder, “Our chairman has been constantly criticizing the Raging Sun Emperor online recently. He might reward us if we manage to rob this Raging Sun individual?”
“Buzz off, don’t bully this little girl, and don’t joke like this,” said the most muscular of the four thugs, knocking the hands off Sky Dragon.
But he wasn’t exactly a good samaritan either, after seeing Sky Dragon, lascivious thoughts began to sprout in his mind.
He looked at Sky Dragon with a pleasant and lustful smile, “Since you’re a foreigner, girl, we’ve decided not to trouble you!”
“Really?” Sky Dragon clapped her hands pretending to be thrilled.
The thug pointed at a dilapidated house not far from the roadside, “That’s my home. All foreigners visiting this town need to register at my place. I’ll take you there and you can leave once the registration is done.”
“Oh, so I need to register. Let’s go quickly then!” Sky Dragon blinked innocently.
“Let’s go, girl!” The three male thugs were over the moon, quickly leading the way.
Such a naive and radiant girl isn’t frequently seen these days!
The female thug shot a disdainful look at the three of them.
But she didn’t say anything, followed behind Sky Dragon with her arms crossed, seemingly cutting off her way back to prevent her from fleeing.
Like that, Sky Dragon and the four thugs entered the house of the thug leader.
More than three minutes later, the female thug came out from the house, holding a card that looked like an ID.
“This thug is called… Tina? Oh my God! How would Nemesis feel if she knew her name?” the “female thug” murmured under her breath, put away the card, and headed towards the town’s only long-distance bus station.
…
This “female thug” wasn’t the same one we saw earlier, it is Sky Dragon in disguise.
Sky Dragon used a unique item called [Mirror Stone] which allowed her to perfectly mimic the female thug’s appearance on a 1:1 scale, not just her skin color and appearance, even her iris and fingerprints could be entirely simulated.
The only thing that could potentially give her away was “drawing blood”. If the Skru people forced Sky Dragon for a blood draw, she might expose herself as an imposter.
As for the thugs from earlier, she dealt with all of them using physical means.
Sky Dragon didn’t feel guilty after killing them, such scum wouldn’t be spared even on the Blue Star, let alone for Skru people.
…
An hour later, a hoverbus departed from the town, moving along the bumpy highway around the town.
Now, Sky Dragon understood why the roads around this small town were so beat up.
The reason was very simple — the hoverbus didn’t need roads to operate, it steadied itself no matter how the road surface was.
On the hoverbus that could seat 30, there were only around fifteen or sixteen passengers, which wasn’t a small number.
Sky Dragon sat by the window, gazing mindlessly at the scenery outside, mesmerized by the gradually setting sun.
Looking at Sky Dragon’s hooliganess, no one wanted to sit next to her, so the seat next to her remained empty.
Sky Dragon was more than happy for this, calmly observing everything around her.
Ever since she arrived on Skru Star, she felt incredibly intrigued by this world.
Whether it was the scenery outside the window, the peculiar plants, the eccentric architecture, the occasional small Warcrafts darting across the sky, the hoverbus she was in, or the Skru people in the bus compartment, all of it made her feel extraordinarily novel.
But she couldn’t express this curiosity, she could only pretend to be accustomed to everything.
Truth be told, it was really hard for her to maintain this act, but she had no choice but to stay in character all the time and cautiously avoid slip-ups.
After all, she had a red warrant on her head, worth 50 billion Solar Yuans!
…
The journey was uneventful.
The speed of hoverbus was quite impressive, reaching a top-speed of 400 kilometers per hour, even faster than the fastest train on Blue Star.
Half an hour later, she arrived at a nearby city and transferred to a passenger bus heading to the capital of Beak City. @@novelbin@@
It must’ve been because her innate luck attribute was in effect, there were no incidents during the bus ride to Beak City, even the security systems seemed to have malfunctioned, letting them pass directly through.
Walking in the square of Beak City’s bus station, staring at the towering skyscrapers around the square that reached more than a thousand meters high, Sky Dragon was unable to withhold her awe.
Though Beak Country was much behind G2, it was still the third-ranking country on Skru Star. Its capital Beak City was even among the top ten cities in the world in terms of prosperity.
Sky Dragon had watched videos of Skru Star’s top-level metropolises — Treyna City, in Su Yu’s recordings. But there’s a world of difference between watching a video, and being there in person.
Gazing at the canvas composed of this colossal steel forest, overwhelmed with a ubiquitous sense of futuristic technology, she felt as if she was living in a sci-fi film, reminiscent of “Granny Liu’s visit to Grand View Garden”.
But just as she was staring blankly at the surrounding buildings, a voice brought her back to reality, “Girly, need a place to stay?”
A chubby and round matron looked at her warmly, “Stay at the inn? Luxury single room, free hot water and internet, only 150 Beak coins a night! There are only two rooms left. If you don’t book now, they’ll be gone!”
“Oh, no, no!” Sky Dragon blushed and sprinted away.
Who would’ve thought she’d hear such candid “greetings” even in such a futuristic city.
What kind of Cyberpunk is this anyway!
What do you think?
