God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.

Chapter 765 Acceptance (5).

Cain watched as Evangeline threw Eziel's decapitated body to the ground.

It rolled for a moment before coming to a stop. Then a tendril of shadows burst out of the ground and smashed it till there was nothing left but bloody mince.

It was incredibly gruesome.

He looked up.

Evangeline was staring at him blankly. There was no expression on her face, but judging by how the feeling of danger around him had intensified, it was clear she hadn't recovered her memories yet.

He has to snap her out of it fast.

He opened his mouth to call out her name.

Before the air could escape his lungs.

BANG!

He swung hard, deflecting the dagger that tried to pierce through his ribs and into his heart from behind.

He tried to make distance, but she followed him closely, sticking to his body like glue. It was as though he could feel her tight, suppose figure through his own metal armor and her leather ones.

Despite the layers of protection between them, he didn't feel safe at all.

His danger senses were screaming to him to get away.@@novelbin@@

He gritted his teeth then reached for her hands to try and grab them.

He couldn't have made a greater error.

Evangeline's crimson eyes narrowed and became colder.

Before his fingers clouds wrap around her hands, they had been sliced off.

Cain let out a string of curses as he retreated backwards, but Evangeline was already following up with a stab to his jaw.

His eyes turned dark, and the bloodlust he had managed to keep in line all this time reared its ugly head.

He parried her dagger with his and stomped against her to create some distance. Evangeline sank into the shadows and reappeared right behind him.

'I've seen these tricks before!'

He pivoted on his heel and swung a terrible kick at her with full force.

If his kick hit, ribs would turn into dust at best. At worst, her spine would snap in half and she would be dead before she reached the ground.

Tendrils of shadows shot up from the ground and wrapped around his leg.

They were blown to bits in seconds, but they bought ample time for her to retreat a few steps back.

But Cain was having none of it.

Magic circles blossomed all around him.

Orbs of concentrated flames and glowing swords with star shaped tips manifested into existence

The crimson in his eyes grew in strength.

With a grunt, he let them go.

In response, Evangeline sunk into the shadows.

Cain snorted coldly, then his eyes burned with a dark flame.

The orbs of fire morphed into orbs of burning darkness.

Then they struck the shadows, they sizzled and burned. They also spread, sticking to the shadows like tar and burning them up.

It was a strange and eerie thing to see shadows burn.

A second later, Evangeline was forced to reemerge from the shadows.

She wore a scowl on her face.

Her crimson lips parted,

"What flame is that?"

Cain snorted, "Oh, so you want to talk now?"

In response, the shadows around Evangeline rose to the sky.

Blood flowed from the corpses around them and then some to mix into the turbulent shadows.

She was drawing in the abundance blood elemental mana to produce something unholy.

Her eyes burned mad as she was consumed by the blood frenzy.

Cain gritted his teeth as he tried to fight it, to claw his way back into reason. But it wasn't happening.

He clenched his blades,

'Will it truly end this way? With one of us dead?'

He could sense the intent behind every move Evangeline made with utmost clarity.

She wanted to kill him. If he didn't respond in similar fashion, he would die.

Contrary to his initial expectations, she has killed Eziel, in less time than he had expected. Which meant she was far more powerful than she had ever let on.

Her combat abilities were frightening, but even worse, was her murderous inclinations. For some reason, they affected her far worse than anyone else.

He was out of options. He fought to kill, or he would die.

'No, there's one more option...'

The haze of blood that clouded his vision seemed to clear up.

He let out a short sigh.

'To make her snap out of it.'

If he could do that, then no one would have to die.

He chuckled to himself. That would be significantly harder than trying to kill her.

He was not given much more time to think, as a moment later, Evangeline was coming at him, a torrent of blood and shadows following her.

Blood droplets sharper than knives rained towards him. If he didn't dodge them all, he would be turned into a sieve in a second.

Any defenses he put on now would be torn apart, so he didn't even bother.

He dispelled his golden daggers and raised his hands up.

A second later, Evangeline slammed into him.

The blades of her daggers pierced right through his open palms. He let out a pained grunt, but kept eye contact by Evangeline who seemed surprised, but unwilling to stop.

"I don't want to fight you."

He did. He really did. He wanted to tear her apart with his bare hands and carve her flesh from her bones.

But he knew he couldn't. If he did, he would never forgive himself.

So, he didn't want Evangeline to go through the same.

Her eyes narrowed as she pushed further, causing him to let out a yelp of pain.

Cain gritted his teeth,

"Eva, Come back to your senses!"

Evangeline stalled momentarily.

Her eyes widened,

"You... how do you know my—"

"Because I know you!" Cain yelled through gritted teeth, his eyes bloodshot.

Evangeline frowned deeply,

"Lies! You don't know me! You don't know anything about me!"

Cain went silent.

She was right. He still didn't know much about her. She had always been an enigma to him, which was why.he has never bothered.

He wished he could go back to the past and change that.

But he couldn't.

He smiled wryly. Blood flowed down his arms as he gripped tighter and pulled closer.

Evangeline's eyes widened. She had not expected such a bold and daring move.

She tried pulling her weapons back, but she couldn't. Cain's grip was too strong.

'Do I just kill him now?' Was the thought that passed through her mind.

All she had to do was activate a latent ability of hers, and all the blood in his body would be drained clean. He would turn into a husk and fall to the ground, shattering into dust on impact.

And yet, for some reason, she couldn't.

His eyes were dark, life two dark pits. But there was emotion in them.

There was life.

And there was a hint of familiarity.

The crimson haze in her eyes died a bit. She relaxed her arms, letting them drop to the sides.

With a grunt, Cain pulled the daggers out and let them drop to the side.

The wild shadows became calm, falling and merging with the ground. The blood elemental mana dispersed into the air.

Evangeline stared at him silently for a while. Then she asked in a voice that might as well have been a whisper,
